Chapter 202: Escape to Jiefang City

Three hours later, Song Min and Lai Dongsheng replaced Li Yu and Li Hang.

Instead of sleeping on the ground, Li Yu found a dilapidated wooden bed and lay on it to sleep. He was very tired recently and wanted to get some good rest.

This feeling of exhaustion surged over him like a tide.

He was mentally exhausted, and his body was also very tired.

He had always been like a perpetually running motor, constantly operating.

Before the apocalypse, he thought about building a base, stockpiling supplies, and saving his family, keeping them by his side.

After the apocalypse, he constantly thought about how to resist zombies and humans.

He had never stopped.

He was very tired.

The Salvation Army had just been eliminated, and then these displaced people arrived, and some of them even escaped—what a hassle.

As Li Yu thought, his mind slowly began to blur, and he entered a light sleep.

Since his rebirth, he still dared not and could not enter deep sleep; only occasionally could he enter this state of sleep.

Li Yu quietly entered a state of sleep, not snoring, his breathing shallow and deep.

The night passed without incident.

At six in the morning, Li Yu opened his eyes promptly.

He saw the morning sun gently spilling onto the room’s floor.

This room must have been flooded before, as there was some mold on the top, but the subsequent days of intense sun exposure had dried it out.

However, the walls also began to crack.

After waking up in the morning, Li Yu habitually picked up the kettle, rinsed his mouth, and then drank a large gulp of water.

After sleeping all night, proper hydration helps clear the mind.

After drinking water, Li Yu ate a simple meal and then walked out of the room.

As soon as he stepped out of the door, his walkie-talkie rang.

“Brother, this is Tie Zi. I found traces of those people over here,” Li Tie’s voice came from the walkie-talkie.

“Where?” Li Yu asked.

“We just found about a dozen people behind the Yangtze River Bridge. Those people should be the ones who came to our base before,” Li Tie said.

“Hmm? How did they get directly to the Yangtze River Bridge?” Li Yu said.

“We’re not sure. Perhaps they passed through at night. After all, there are still ways to get to the City Center if you take a detour,” Li Tie sighed and said.

This was normal, as there were many roads leading to the City Center, and Li Yu and his team were guarding the most likely routes.

Since these people had arrived here, why were they still staying on this side of the Yangtze River Bridge?

“Let’s go! Go find them,” Li Yu said decisively.

He didn’t want to stay for another minute; he had to resolve these troubles as quickly as possible.

He went downstairs, got in the car, and drove to the bridge.

Under the bridge, the river had turned into a muddy stream, and the water flowing in it was very turbid.

These dozen or so people had just come ashore after drinking some turbid water by the river.

Then they saw Li Yu and his team standing in front of them.

Seeing Li Yu and his dozen or so men holding submachine guns and looking at them, they were instantly terrified.

Fire immediately!

Bang, bang, bang!

In Li Yu’s opinion, when enemies meet, exchanging harsh words is a waste of time and life.

Moreover, it could lead to missing opportunities, easily turning an active situation into a passive one.

If he could Ga Ga kill, he would never say an extra word.

In just a few seconds, more than half of these dozen people were killed.

Seeing this, Li Yu quickly shouted, “Leave one or two alive.”

Bang!

After the last gunshot, all the people on the other side had fallen down.

“Brother, you spoke too slowly,” Li Tie scratched his head and said.

“Don’t you know how to use your brains? They have so few people, where did the others go? Don’t you need to ask clearly?” Li Yu said somewhat angrily.

Then he walked forward and turned over a body, finally seeing that one person had not been hit in a vital spot and was still clinging to life.

Li Yu stepped forward and said, “Tell me, where did your other people go? I’ll let you die more painlessly.”

His tone was icy.

The man who had been shot in the abdomen also knew he wouldn’t live, but he wanted to die more painlessly. Already starving, after being shot, blood flowed out.

Now, he only wished for a quick death.

He had long felt that living was a painful thing for him.

“To, to, to the City Center. They said there’s a base there that recruits people and will take in anyone,” the man said, gasping for breath.

Li Yu then asked, “Why are only you left? Why didn’t you dozen or so people go?”

With hatred in his eyes, the man said, “That person said to hurry, so they ran over at night, but they encountered zombies. Then they ran first and left us behind.”

“We didn’t dare to move, so we waited until the next day. But we lost many people. It’s all that Da Bei Tou’s fault,” the man’s eyes were filled with hatred.

Li Yu sighed. He roughly understood what had happened. Da Bei Tou must have been afraid of being surrounded by Li Yu and his team, so he fled to the City Center overnight, then encountered zombies, deceived these people, and made them scapegoats.

“Alright! I’ll let you die painlessly. May you have better luck in your next life,” Li Yu said, then fired his gun.

Bang!

The man died, a sense of relief on his face.

He was finally free.

Seeing this, Li Yu’s heart was filled with mixed emotions.

But it didn’t affect his actions.

“Let’s go to Liberation City!” Li Yu said.

The group drove towards Liberation City.

In Liberation City, Da Bei Tou had arrived early with over a hundred people.

Director Zhang appeared as soon as he saw Da Bei Tou and the others.

He always believed that things were easier to handle with more people in the base.

Although food was also an issue in Liberation City now, he still felt that things were easier to handle with more people.

So, the first thing he did when he saw so many people seeking refuge was not to resist them.

Liberation City already had several hundred people, and with the advantage in numbers, they weren’t afraid that these hundred-plus people would cause trouble.

Furthermore, Li Yu had dealt with another faction in the City Center much earlier, so Liberation City’s influence was the greatest in this city.

As their numbers grew, they still had a certain amount of food accumulated from their previous searches.

This Liberation City was truly a fortunate existence.

In the beginning, the faction near Yugu Terrace was an enemy of Liberation City and also an enemy of Li Yu, whom Li Yu eliminated. This was tantamount to helping Liberation City.

When the Salvation Army first invaded this city, Li Yu and his team’s base was in front of Liberation City, and the Salvation Army had not yet reached the city itself, so they escaped unscathed.

Later, the Salvation Army was directly dealt with by Li Yu and his team.

Another conflict was avoided.

Li Yu didn’t intend to destroy Liberation City, as they hadn’t offended him.

Moreover, regardless of what happened before, his aunt and others had once stayed in Liberation City.

On the way, Li Yu thought about how to resolve this issue later.

Given Director Zhang’s nature, he might indeed take in those displaced people.

Li Yu certainly intended to kill Da Bei Tou and the others.

It just depended on whether Director Zhang and his team would protect them.

Li Yu narrowed his eyes, a cold glint flashing within them.
