Chapter 211: Escape from Jiefang City

Since everything was in chaos, since there was no room for recovery and no need to try any further, he had to think about giving these old brothers, who had always been loyal to him, a way out.

Captain Lü walked from the side to Lao Xie and the others, no longer looking at the refugees behind him.

"Go pack your things, we're getting ready to leave," Captain Lü said.

His voice was not loud, just enough for Lao Xie and his group to hear, but the refugees and some residents ten meters away could not.

Upon hearing this, Lao Xie understood that the Captain also intended to abandon this place.

Boom!

There was a tremor.

At the main entrance, a car was directly detonated.

On both sides of the vehicle, people from both sides were fighting desperately, while some ignored them, picking up scattered items from the ground and fleeing, but before they could run a few steps, they were stabbed to death by someone behind them.

This person had just picked up something that had fallen to the ground and was about to run to the side when he was surrounded by several people, who scrambled to snatch it.

Rip, it was a bag of whole wheat bread, scattering in the air.

Before a few slices of bread could fall to the ground, they were snatched up and shoved directly into mouths.

One person who didn't get any directly clawed at another person's mouth.

As soon as that person grabbed the bread, he frantically stuffed it into his mouth; his lips were chapped from the drought.

The other person frantically pulled at him, trying to dig the bread out of his mouth, but this person swallowed frantically.

However, because his throat was dry and the bread was already stale and so coarse it was impossible to swallow, the entire piece of bread got stuck in his throat, choking him and making him unable to breathe.

Struggling, this person rolled his eyes, his throat blocked by the bread, completely unable to breathe.

Finally, he collapsed weakly to the ground.

The other person, seeing this, continued to claw at his mouth, but it was futile.

The bread had already gone down his throat; he looked at a knife nearby.

He had an idea.

Captain Lü watched this scene, feeling an especially strong sense of sorrow for the demise of his kind.

They had to leave as soon as possible.

Entering the room, Captain Lü saw his wife and daughter looking panicked; the refugees had almost rushed in just now, scaring them badly.

Besides the five people confronting the refugees at the door, there were also about ten family members in the room; these were all the family members they had left, some due to illness, some due to various incidents encountered in between, and some had already died when the apocalypse first broke out.

"How many people do we have here in total?" Captain Lü asked.

The team member behind him counted and said, "There are 32 people in total, plus Director Zhang and his group, about 40 people."

Captain Lü looked around and, not seeing Director Zhang, said, "Where is Director Zhang?"

"We didn't see him; they haven't come over yet," said someone who had been staying in the room.

A bad premonition flashed through Captain Lü's mind; Director Zhang and his group were likely in grave danger.

After all, many people hated him. It was also a distance from their side to here, and on the way, it was possible they encountered other people. Judging by the scene he had just witnessed, there must have been a big problem.

Captain Lü couldn't understand why things had suddenly turned out this way.

Everything was fine just a moment ago, and now the situation had become uncontrollable.

In fact, what he didn't know was that everyone in Liberation City had long wanted to loot, but no one had started yet. They were still waiting for them to donate some food, hoping.

But human nature is like this: the bottom line can be continuously broken through, as long as they are given a glimmer of hope to survive. Carrying this glimmer of hope, they can endure great pain.

After Director Zhang spoke those words and was knocked unconscious by Slanting Bangs with a brick, his life or death unknown.

They clearly knew that Director Zhang and Captain Lü's group were no longer capable of helping them.

That is to say, their last chance to survive was cut off.

So, to survive.

Then there should be no morality or order; it's just one word: snatch!

Anyway, fighting to snatch would lead to starvation, and desperately snatching might give them a chance to survive.

Since death was inevitable, they might as well fight for it.

"Is everyone ready? Prepare to depart," Captain Lü said.

"Everyone is ready," said the other team member opposite him.

"Then, let's go!" Captain Lü said.

A commotion came from the front.

Bang!

A gunshot, fired by Lao Xie.

Captain Lü rushed out of the room, only to see the refugees outside the house stop, staring straight at them.

"They tried to rush in just now; I stopped them," Lao Xie, unsure of what Captain Lü wanted to do and whether they could kill these refugees and residents, explained.

Captain Lü glanced at the refugees in front of him, his eyes filled with deep disappointment and helplessness.

Gritting his teeth, he said, "Well done. On the way later, if anyone dares to charge at us, kill them directly!"

His voice was cold, chilling to the bone.

The people opposite also heard this. Some looked at the guns in Director Zhang's hands, some were timid, while others looked unafraid of death, as they were going to starve to death anyway.

"Let's go!"

Some people came out of the room one after another, carrying some things, while others had backpacks.

There wasn't much of these things, and not much food either.

Compared to the food of the man with Slanting Bangs, their things really weren't much.

"Get out of the way!" Captain Lü shouted loudly.

None of the refugees or residents moved aside.

Bang!

Captain Lü directly shot and killed Old Huang, who was at the very front. Old Huang was an old man in Liberation City, and now he was killed by Captain Lü with a single shot.

This showed Captain Lü's determination at this moment.

The crowd quickly made way.

Captain Lü's group of 32 people had only 6 people with guns. Among them, only four had bullets in their guns, and not many were left.

But the refugees were unaware of Captain Lü's true situation, so they all retreated.

Captain Lü and his group walked towards the garage. They actually had quite a few vehicles, but very little gasoline.

Under the deterrence of firearms, no one dared to take another step forward.

Although everyone knew that their bullets were scarce, no one wanted to be the first to step forward again. The first one to die served no purpose.

As soon as Captain Lü and his group left, the refugees and residents surged into the room.

They rummaged through everything, searching for items, but after a short while, they came out of the room disheartened.

Damn it, there was nothing of value left.

Some people's thoughts turned to those fighting over things on the other side. They originally thought that Captain Lü and his group, as the base's controllers, should have the most food, but now it seemed they didn't have much. They weren't even as good as them.

Among the crowd, some people directly left the house and ran towards the direction where Slanting Bangs had fled. There were more things there, and no guns, so they might as well try there.

But some people looked at Captain Lü not far away, their thoughts uncontrollable.

Their eyes were filled with madness.

The hunger in their stomachs surged like a tide, becoming even more intense!

To get the previous chapter released, I spent all day today revising. Perhaps what I've been writing lately is too bloody? It keeps getting blocked. It's so frustrating. I'll just release this new chapter first.

I must revise the previous chapter until it's released; everyone's money shouldn't be wasted!!
