Chapter 246: There is a hole in the hole

After Li Yu finished speaking, everyone slowly climbed down from the rocks.

After quickly dispatching the scattered zombies with a few slashes, Li Yu thought for a moment, then had Li Tie find an iron rod and begin striking the entrance of the Sinkhole with it.

Clang, clang, clang!

The sound was deafening.

It echoed downwards, and after a good while of striking, no zombies emerged.

"Big Brother, do we still need to go up?" Li Tie recalled the dense swarm of bats inside earlier, and how they had been chased by those zombies, making his hair stand on end just thinking about it.

"Yes, go down. Wait a moment, Da Pao, you and Wang Cheng go back to the car and bring over that super powerful spotlight," Li Yu instructed.

He remembered how pitch black it had been inside the Sinkhole earlier. Although the portable flashlight they carried now was quite powerful, it was clearly insufficient for the Sinkhole.

"Oh, oh, alright, wait for us." After hearing Li Yu's words, Da Pao didn't hesitate and immediately took Wang Cheng towards the road where their car was parked outside.

After a while, Wang Cheng and Da Pao each returned with a somewhat large, ultra-long-range searchlight. This device had immense power, easily illuminating objects over a hundred meters away, and crucially, the illumination at that distance wasn't blurry but remarkably clear.

"Da Pao, Cheng Zi, turn on the lights at the edge of the Sinkhole. Da Pao, keep an eye on the entrance. Cheng Zi, you be alert for any anomalies in the surroundings. Tie Zi, Gang Zi, we're going down." Li Yu quickly assigned their respective tasks.

Li Tie then took another ultra-long-range searchlight and walked inside.

With the ultra-long-range searchlight on, sweeping left and right, it actually reached the end of the side passages.

It seemed the sides weren't deep. At the ends of these two sides, there were no zombies, just some water clinging to the Sinkhole walls, and water occasionally dripping from the Sinkhole's ceiling, making the ground damp.

Under the ultra-long-range searchlight, everything within a hundred meters was clear.

This gave everyone an immense sense of security.

Human fear always stems from the unknown. The less understood something is, the more likely it is to induce fear.

Suddenly, Li Tie's light beam abruptly illuminated a spot in the front right. On that wall, there was a small cave entrance, approximately 1 meter high and 3 meters wide.

The three walked forward, reaching the cave entrance. They shone the searchlight inside, but could only illuminate a corner. It was clear there was more space inside, but their view was obstructed by the jagged rocks within.

"Big Brother, should we, should we go in?" Li Tie asked.

Li Yu lowered his head, bent down, and peered inside, finally saying, "Let's not go in for now. Let's walk further ahead and see if there are other similar cave entrances."

Li Tie nodded, continuing to shine the ultra-long-range searchlight deeper inside. The front still had no visible end, so everyone continued to walk forward.

The light from the cave entrance could no longer reach their location. Li Yu and his two companions had already ventured over a hundred meters deep.

They walked for another minute, and then their eyes suddenly brightened, as light spilled down from directly above.

It was a cave entrance, seemingly from the top of the mountain.

They looked around and realized they had reached the innermost part of this Sinkhole, the very end.

There's nothing here!

All three were a bit speechless. On the way over, Li Yu and his companions had also seen other cave entrances similar to the first one, though their shapes varied. However, they all shared one common characteristic: they all looked rather strange.

It seemed these cave entrances were all naturally formed.

"Let's go back and check out those other cave entrances," Li Yu said.

They found the largest cave entrance and knocked on it for a while, but no zombies appeared.

However, due to the knocking, many bats flew out from inside. Da Pao and his companion, who were guarding the outermost cave entrance, were met with a frenzy of bats outside. They were almost scared to death.

After the bats flew away, the three exchanged glances. Should they go in?

This cave entrance was a bit narrow, so it was unlikely many zombies could hide inside. Even if there were zombies, in such a confined environment, the threat wasn't particularly great, as they would only have to face one zombie at a time.

But this cave entrance didn't look large either. Could it hold firearms? This place didn't seem like a place for firearms.

"Let's go in. I'll go first, Tie Zi, you be last," Li Tie said.

Li Yu took the lead, bending down and walking inside.

As Li Yu walked inside, he saw some doggerel poems written on the wall with charcoal.

Upon seeing the doggerel, Li Yu's mood instantly soured.

This meant someone had definitely been here!

But since they were already inside, they definitely had to keep looking. Thinking this, Li Yu suppressed his helplessness and quickened his pace, walking deeper inside.

Inside this Sinkhole, the rocks were of various shapes, and the space was extremely narrow, making it incredibly difficult for Li Yu and his two companions to move.

During their movement, they inevitably brushed against the walls, which were extremely damp, leaving all three of them covered in dust.

Inside this small cave, some areas required them to stoop to pass, while others were slightly larger, and some even measured five or six meters wide, each varying.

They had just reached a slightly wider area.

Suddenly, as Li Yu walked forward, the light from his flashlight reflected off something, and focusing his gaze, he saw a long object.

Crucially, this object was moving.

Li Yu quickly took a few steps forward and clearly saw it was a snake!

It was white, glowing white.

It was about two meters long and as thick as a wrist.

This snake looked somewhat peculiar. Its head was slightly raised, appearing as if it had two horns.

Its entire body was covered in barbs, and the position of its tail looked extremely strange, as if it had a small head.

At this moment, this snake, unafraid of humans, was coiled up in a lump a few meters away, flicking its tongue, seemingly observing them.

Li Tie looked at the white snake and remembered some ghost and deity films he had watched before.

"Big Brother, is this the descendant of Bai Suzhen?" Li Tie said, then chuckled twice, but neither Li Gang nor Li Yu laughed.

Tie Zi felt a bit awkward and cleared his throat a few times.

Li Gang seemed to recall something and said, "I heard from the elders in my family that white snakes have some kind of symbolism. I've forgotten whether it's a good or bad omen, but it's best not to bother it."

Li Yu nodded, picked up a stone, and threw it by the roadside to startle the snake away, as it was blocking their path.

The snake twisted its body, straightened up, and flicked its long tongue.

Li Yu's patience was limited; he just wanted to find the firearms as quickly as possible. Even if they weren't here, he wanted to finish searching this place and get out soon.

Li Gang also picked up a stone and threw it, and the white snake instantly lunged forward.

Damn it, it's looking for death.

Li Yu directly swung the long saber in his hand, quickly slashing twice, cutting the snake into three pieces.

Looking at the snake's body, cut into three pieces on the ground, it was still wriggling.

Li Yu picked up a large stone from the ground and smashed it down hard, crushing the snake's head and body into a pulpy mess.

"I hate snakes the most, damn it!" Li Yu cursed.
