Chapter 290: A good dog stays out of the way

Third Uncle chased in that direction, carrying some food, two guns, and driving a car.

Li Yu, on the other hand, returned to the place where they had been staying in He Park.

Da Pao and the others had already started clearing things, organizing everything usable and potentially useful in the future.

They also had a few cars, so they could load them up and leave when the time came.

Lao Xie and the others, who had been waiting there, also helped pack up everything usable in the area and loaded it into the cars.

Although this time went relatively smoothly, for Lao Xie and the others, their hearts were still somewhat unaccustomed to it.

An hour later, everyone had packed and loaded all usable items into the cars and began to return to the base.

The atmosphere in the car was somewhat somber; they knew what they did was right, but when they truly got their revenge, especially seeing those people constantly begging for mercy and wailing, they still felt a pang of reluctance.

The vehicle sped along the National Highway, with Li Tie driving in the lead.

The window was open, and the wind howled in.

Li Yu, in the passenger seat, was very clear-headed in the wind.

Suddenly!

A shadow flashed in front.

"Screech~~~"

The vehicle came to an emergency stop.

The shadow in front stopped directly in the middle of the road.

It was a dog!

Through the car window, Li Yu and the others clearly saw a yellowish-brown wolfdog in front; this wolfdog looked tall and mighty but was exceptionally thin.

Its entire head was disproportionately thin, its fur dull, and it lay on the ground, barely alive.

But its belly was bulging, indicating at a glance that this wolfdog was pregnant.

Li Yu waited in the car for a while, looking around, but saw nothing else.

"Go around this wolfdog and quickly return to the base," Li Yu said.

Just as Li Tie was about to drive, Yu Tong leaned forward from the back seat and saw the wolfdog, especially when she saw its belly.

Her expression showed some reluctance, but she said nothing.

Li Yu saw Yu Tong's expression, and his heart softened a little, then he looked at the wolfdog lying on the ground.

That wolfdog seemed very intelligent; at this moment, its eyes looked at Li Yu with a pleading gaze.

"Forget it. Wait a moment, I'll go down and take a look," Li Yu said.

After saying that, Li Yu got out of the car and walked towards the wolfdog, still holding a long knife in his hand and a submachine gun on his back.

The wolfdog let out a whimper when it saw Li Yu approaching.

"Woof~ Woof~ Woof~"

Li Yu stood to the side, not immediately approaching the wolfdog, but observing it first.

Because he was worried that the wolfdog had been bitten by a zombie, and if it had, he would have no choice but to put it down.

The wolfdog seemed to understand Li Yu's concern and painstakingly turned its body, revealing its other side.

This wolfdog had no bite marks on its body; it just looked exceptionally thin, perhaps due to insufficient food and malnutrition.

After turning over, the wolfdog exposed its belly to Li Yu.

For animals, their belly is usually their most vulnerable spot, and exposing it now was undoubtedly an act of extreme trust in Li Yu.

Seeing this, even the usually cold-blooded Li Yu was touched; he thought for a moment and slowly approached.

The wolfdog whimpered continuously, looked at Li Yu, and then back at its belly.

Just as Li Yu didn't know what to do, Yu Tong also got out of the car and came up behind Li Yu.

"It seems to be begging you. It should be about to give birth," Yu Tong said.

"But, I've never delivered a baby before," Li Yu's face showed an awkward expression.

Just as the two were at a loss, the wolfdog's face showed an extremely pained expression.

Its breathing became very rapid, and its abdomen began to contract violently.

Despite the wolfdog's efforts, it still couldn't give birth to the puppies in its belly.

The wolfdog began to convulse, then started to wail continuously.

"I'll cut it open," Li Yu took out his dagger, just as he was about to perform a caesarean section on the wolfdog.

The wolfdog let out one last wail, looking at Li Yu with a hint of pleading.

Then it stopped breathing.

Li Yu inserted the dagger into the wolfdog's abdomen, trying to be as careful and gentle as possible.

Soon after.

From the wolfdog's belly, four small puppies were dissected.

However, one of the puppies had already stopped breathing; it was a stillbirth.

The remaining three puppies had just been born and had not yet opened their eyes.

But they smelled their mother nearby and kept searching for something.

The three puppies latched onto the shriveled mother wolf's teats, but because the wolfdog was so emaciated, there was no milk at all.

"Ow, ow, ow," the three puppies whimpered with their baby voices, wailing continuously.

"Sigh," Li Yu said, seeing the situation.

He put the stillborn puppy aside, then moved the wolfdog's body to the side of the road.

Just as he was about to leave, the three puppies behind him started crying again.

"They've taken you as their family," Yu Tong said with a smile, seeing this.

"This..." Li Yu was a little helpless.

Looking back at the few pitiful puppies, Li Yu was in a dilemma.

When Li Yu was little, he once had a dog, and he remembered that when he was a child, that dog often accompanied him to school, and every time he finished school, it would follow behind him.

That dog stayed with him for many years, ever since he was born.

Until later, when the dog was old, it left their home and went somewhere unknown.

Feeling the movement at his feet, Li Yu's past memories suddenly flooded his mind.

"Sigh," Li Yu sighed.

Then he picked up the three puppies.

Originally, there were also a few dogs kept at the base, and now, looking at this wolfdog, it was still very formidable.

Even with insufficient food and malnutrition, it still looked so tall and mighty.

It was imaginable that this wolfdog would be very powerful in its normal state.

These three puppies, yellow and black, looked not much different from Chinese rural dogs.

Their fluffy, plump appearance looked very cute.

At this moment, they hadn't opened their eyes yet, but they kept sniffing in Li Yu's arms, as if trying to remember Li Yu's scent.

"Let's go," Li Yu looked at Yu Tong beside him, whose eyes were fixed on Li Yu's arms, with a hint of expectation.

It was a bit inconvenient for Li Yu to hold three wolfdogs, so he simply handed two of them to Yu Tong.

He held one wolfdog in one hand and his long knife in the other.

Yu Tong took the wolfdog from Li Yu's hand, and a maternal expression appeared on her face.

Li Yu smiled, and then the two walked towards the car.

After they got into the car, Li Tie looked at the puppy in Li Yu's arms and was charmed by the little creature.

He reached out his hand, wanting to pet the wolfdog, but the puppy resisted fiercely.

Li Tie smiled, seeing this: "This little wolfdog recognizes people so quickly, huh. Hahaha."
