Chapter 310: Returning on a snowy night

7 PM.

Da Zhangshu Base.

It was Li Yu's turn on duty today, and the night was the coldest time.

In the guardroom at the main entrance, Li Yu sat on a chair, watching the surveillance monitors.

Although the solar-powered lights provided a general view, the falling snow made it difficult to see clearly.

Snow fell continuously outside the window, accumulating on the tree branches until a certain amount had gathered, then it would loudly fall to the ground.

Since the snow began, Li Yu hadn't heard any bird calls; the only sound audible was the falling snow.

Li Yu was looking at the screen when he suddenly saw a dark shadow appear in the upper right corner, which was not very clear on the monitor.

Li Yu quickly stood up.

Yu Tong, who was beside him, saw Li Yu's movement and quickly asked, “Yu Ge, what’s wrong?”

“Look at the third camera on the right; is there someone there?” Li Yu asked, putting on his overcoat.

The outdoor temperature was tens of degrees below zero; going out without enough layers would be certain death.

Yu Tong focused her gaze on that camera, and indeed, there was a dark, shadowy object that looked like a person.

Bang!

Through the camera, they saw this figure hit the large iron gate, making some noise.

Li Yu and Yu Tong exchanged glances.

Who was it?

They quickly put on their overcoats and gloves, grabbed their guns, and walked outside.

Although it was unlikely for enemies to appear in such extreme weather, it was better to be cautious.

They walked out of the guardroom, and a cold wind immediately burrowed into their necks; it was too cold.

The figure was right at the edge of the main entrance, less than 5 meters from where they walked on the wall.

Feathery snowflakes fell from the sky, covering the figure below entirely.

Li Yu stood on the wall, looking down at the person, his gun constantly aimed at them.

Li Yu saw the person below was motionless, so he thought for a moment, then kneaded some accumulated snow from the wall into a ball and threw it at the person below.

Thud!

The person below was hit by the snow, as if startled awake, and lifted their head, shouting, “Help!”

Li Yu saw that the person was not carrying any weapons, which put him slightly at ease; he didn't feel much about the person's cry for help.

Because he couldn't see clearly, he took out his flashlight and shone it on the person's face below.

The flashlight beam illuminated the person's face; it was a woman he didn't recognize.

Due to the light, the woman below closed her eyes.

“Sister An Ya?” Yu Tong, next to Li Yu, suddenly asked with an uncertain tone.

The person below heard Yu Tong's voice and said with surprise, “Is that Yu Tong?”

Being below, looking up, and with Li Yu's light shining down, she couldn't clearly see the person standing on the wall.

Hearing the person's voice again, Yu Tong finally confirmed that the person below was An Ya, who had been in Liberation City before.

This An Ya had always been with Bai Jie and her group, so why was she here alone now?

With the temperature so low, it looked like An Ya below wouldn't last much longer.

After a moment of hesitation, Yu Tong said to Li Yu, “The person below is from Liberation City, from the same group as your aunt.

Their leader, Bai Jie, took good care of your aunt.

If it weren't for their care back then, we might have had an even harder time.”

As she spoke, Li Yu also found the woman below somewhat familiar.

He recalled that when he drove to Liberation City, his aunt recognized him and Xiao Hang, and this person was among that group.

“Yu Tong, my Group Leader Bai and the others are still behind; they can't walk anymore; they might already… already…” Just as her voice fell, An Ya fainted.

Seeing this, Li Yu quickly took out his walkie-talkie: “Second Uncle, call Aunt over.

Also, Tie Zi and Gang Zi, tell them to come over, and have Li Yuan bring the medical kit too.”

After speaking, he didn't explain to Second Uncle.

He then said to Li Haoran and others in other guardrooms, “Each of you send one person over; the remaining person stays put.”

After doing all this, Li Yu stood still.

He didn't go downstairs to open the door.

Yu Tong looked at the unconscious An Ya with some anxiety; at tens of degrees below zero, every extra second they spent outside meant an increased risk to their lives.

After about twenty seconds, Li Haoran and Da Pao walked over, panting, and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Li Yu didn't waste words, telling them to continue watching the situation from the wall.

He also turned on the searchlight, which shone far into the distance, allowing them to vaguely see four small dark spots about two hundred meters from the base.

“You two stay here on the wall and watch.

Someone from Liberation City came for help.

I’m going down to check.

You observe from above and tell me immediately if anything seems wrong.” Li Yu pointed to the person below.

“Hmm, okay.

But, should I go down instead?” Da Pao asked.

“No need.”

After saying that, Li Yu climbed down from the wall, and Yu Tong followed him down.

Da Pao on the wall saw that they had gone down, so he slowly opened the large gate.

This outermost gate was quite heavy and could not be opened from below; it could only be opened from above.

As the gate slowly opened, the figure leaning against it fell directly into the middle of the doorway.

Li Yu took two steps forward and saw that the person was wearing many layers of clothes; the outermost ones were somewhat dirty, and there were ice clumps on the hems.

The person was lying face up, and there was nothing on their body to hide, so Li Yu stepped forward and directly tied the person's hands.

Then he dragged them into Weng City.

“What are you doing?” Yu Tong was a little stunned by his actions.

The person was unconscious, yet he still tied them up.

What the heck...

“I trust you, and I trust Aunt, and I trust that they helped you all back then, which is why I’m bringing her in.”

“Hmm.” Yu Tong didn't ask too many questions; Li Yu must have his reasons for doing this, and being cautious wasn't a bad thing.

They dragged An Ya into a small house inside Weng City.

When Weng City was built, it was considered that if people returned from outside and encountered various weather conditions like rain or snow, they would still need to stay in Weng City for about ten minutes.

Therefore, a house of about ten square meters was built against the wall within Weng City.

Although this house was relatively simple, it could at least block the wind and snow, and it also had a stove.

With snow falling outside, Li Yu and Yu Tong moved the woman onto a long bench.

The woman's hair was already frozen, appearing in strands, and her eyebrows were covered with icicles.

Her lips were somewhat purple, and her closed eyes, perhaps having gotten wet, had started to stick together and freeze in just a short while.
