Chapter 342: Count the harvest

Da Zhangshu Base. Weng City.

Light snow fell, landing on everyone.

Everyone's clothes were covered in snowflakes. Li Yu walked from the car to the research lab, which was converted from a lounge.

As soon as he entered the lab, a wave of heat greeted him. Since they decided to make this place a temporary research lab last time, they had simply reinforced the room.

Then they ran power lines, and now the interior was relatively warm.

Upon entering, he saw Bai Jie wearing a white, loose doctor's coat. Even the loose coat couldn't hide Bai Jie's figure.

Her well-proportioned figure, especially now as Bai Jie was slightly bent over, her eyes glued to the microscope, seemed to be examining something.

Hearing the door open, Bai Jie turned her head and saw it was Li Yu.

Li Yu sat down on a stool without prompting and asked, "Any discoveries?"

Bai Jie frowned and said,

"We're still researching it. From what we've seen so far, this virus spreads very quickly, is constantly iterating and updating, and has extremely strong vitality.

I'd like to have more samples, and we're also a bit short on equipment. I've made a list. If you go out, could you help me bring them back?"

Li Yu took the list Bai Jie handed him and glanced at it. There were some items on it he didn't recognize, so he said,

"Some of these things on your list, I've never seen them before. How will I find them then?"

Bai Jie said, "Look at the back; there are notes describing what these things look like. And when you go to look for them, generally the instrument itself will also be labeled with its name."

Li Yu nodded and said, "Alright, when we go out, we'll make sure to look for these things."

Bai Jie smiled and sat down, then looked at the door and saw that it was closed.

She leaned closer to Li Yu and said, "Was your trip smooth? Did you find the inverters?"

As she spoke, she subtly and intentionally shifted her delicate body closer to Li Yu.

Li Yu looked at the beauty mark at the corner of Bai Jie's mouth and nodded, saying,

"It's a blizzard outside. Yang Tianlong is injured and is now in the medical room, but thankfully we found the inverters…

Hiss~ What are you doing?"

"Where's Yu Ge?"

"He's in the research lab."

Suddenly, Yu Tong's voice came. Li Yu's eyebrows twitched slightly, and he gazed at Bai Jie.

Bai Jie smiled, then took her hand away, twisted her graceful body, and put on her gloves while saying, "Mr. Li, next time you can bring a male zombie. I can compare them."

Tap, tap, tap~

A knock came at the door. Li Yu stood up and opened it.

He opened the door.

Yu Tong wore a hat covered in snowflakes and said, "Yu Ge, I was just looking for you. Are you injured? I saw Yang Tianlong seemed to be injured just now."

Li Yu said with a smile, "Just wait in the base. I'm not injured. Come on, let's go back."

He then brushed the snow off Yu Tong's hat with his hand.

As he stepped out the door, he seemed to remember something, turned his head, and said to Bai Jie, "Bai Jie, I'll help look for those instruments you mentioned when I go out."

"Thank you, Mr. Li," Bai Jie said politely and composedly.

Except for Yang Tianlong, who had returned to the base due to his injury, everyone else remained in Weng City. Ten minutes later,

They drove towards the residential area.

In the car, Li Yu said to Li Hang,

"Xiao Hang, when we arrive, replace the inverter directly. Also, try to find a way to prevent the inverter from being affected by wind, rain, or blizzards.

For the photovoltaics, check if there are any other problems and troubleshoot everything.

Also, all the electronic products we brought back from the electronics wholesale market this time should be put in the previous underground warehouse. That place has been treated for safety, waterproofing, and moisture prevention."

Li Hang nodded and said, "Okay, brother, I'll go as soon as I get out of the car."

Li Yu continued, "Da Pao, go help Xiao Hang later."

Da Pao, driving the car, said, "Okay."

Soon, everyone arrived inside the base.

Everyone got out of the car. Second Uncle and the others were already waiting there.

Li Yu said to Second Uncle, "Second Uncle, let's move the things to the warehouse first. Besides the inverter, we also got some other electronic products."

Second Uncle nodded and said, "Mhm, alright. You go rest first; we'll move them."

He then called over several workers and some other people to help with the moving. With everyone's combined effort, the items were quickly moved into the warehouse.

Second Uncle held a notebook and checked with Li Yu: "Xiao Yu, I just tallied everything: there are 35 inverters, 135 solar panels, 35 chip capacitors, 13 high-energy capacitors, 14 high-precision adjustable potentiometers.

Besides these, there are also some watches, 240 of them in total, 6 digital cameras, 10 video game consoles—how did these even get here?

And there are 5 sound systems, 5 microwave ovens, and 23 radios."

Just listening, after Second Uncle finished speaking, Li Yu suddenly said, "Second Uncle, Shang Xue'er told me today, what should we do if we encounter an even more powerful force?"

Second Uncle was stunned by the question, furrowed his brows, and said, "What do you think?"

Li Yu didn't speak, a look of contemplation flashed in his eyes, and he counter-questioned, "Second Uncle, I want to hear your thoughts."

Second Uncle thought for a moment, remained silent for two minutes, and finally said,

"I've always had this concern. Actually, Third Uncle and I were very worried about your state for a while. During that time, we not only killed many zombies but also many people.

But later, I realized that many of the things you did were prescient. If we had let those more than a thousand displaced people in back then, perhaps we would have been destroyed like Liberation City.

When I used to do business, I knew one thing: self-interest drives human nature, especially in the apocalypse.

Our base is relatively stable now because we've given them enough benefits to survive.

But if one day, everyone can't fill their stomachs, everything will be over.

We need to become stronger, to have more manpower, but we must have enough benefits to give them, in other words, to be able to feed them.

In the current situation, there was drought before, then heavy rain, and then a blizzard. We don't have that much food to sustain everyone.

I think our current approach is correct: development through stability."

Li Yu let out a long sigh of relief. He had also been struggling with this, although he hadn't encountered any particularly large forces before his rebirth, that didn't mean they didn't exist.

In the apocalypse before his rebirth, many people's range of activity was very small. In the dangerous apocalypse, if people could find a safe place, they would try to minimize movement, unless they couldn't survive anymore.

Li Yu said, "My thoughts are pretty similar to yours. Second Uncle, I'm going back to rest now."

Second Uncle nodded and said, "Xiao Yu, you've worked hard. Go get some rest."

Li Yu stood up and walked upstairs. His mind had been tense these past few days, and now he could finally get some good rest.
