Chapter 9: Shots fired in Bouville

“Bang!” The explosive gunshot completely shattered the last vestiges of peace under the night sky of Buweier Town.

The Bounty Hunter, with lightning speed, swung his battle-axe, blocking the bullet in front of him!

“Clang—!” The bullet and the battle-axe collided, producing a crisp sound. Aaron, who had blocked the bullet with his battle-axe, didn't budge. Similarly, his Bounty Hunter's Axe only trembled twice, without a single mark on it.

“You finally appeared, Brinster!” Aaron held his battle-axe, his blood and qi surging throughout his body, as he looked towards the direction from which the bullet had flown.

Under the moonlight, a youth in a light grey-blue trench coat stood quietly on the rooftop opposite the city wall. He had his back to the bright moonlight, and faint heat and smoke drifted from the barrel of the flintlock pistol in his hand. He slowly raised the flintlock to his face, gently blew a breath, dispelling the gunsmoke from the barrel. At the same time, his dark grey curly hair, which covered a quarter of his face, swayed gently with the evening breeze. His face was filled with arrogance and wildness as he looked down at Aaron from above.

The Arms Dealer—Brinster!

Half a minute ago…

At the corner of South Gate Street, Brinster was sitting on the roof of a tavern, leisurely drinking sake from his flask.

“Tsk tsk, this sake is much weaker, not as good as the previous few places,” Brinster shook his flask, “I can’t even get drunk.”

He idly picked up the flintlock pistol at his waist and twirled it between his slender fingers, “That guy is really something. Isn’t it just smuggling arms? Does he have to stare at me like this… Sigh, that noble I killed, if I didn’t kill him, he would have killed me. What could I do?”

Saying that, Brinster loaded a bullet into the flintlock pistol in his hand, “The feel after modification is really good. I don’t have to reload after every shot.” Then, he loaded his other flintlock pistol at his waist as well.

“Let me think, where did I put those other guns? The Mini Shark still feels the best…” Brinster once again tucked both flintlocks into his waist. Just as he turned to leave, “Boom!” A loud bang echoed through the entire street.

Brinster stopped in his tracks and looked towards the city gate, “Judging by this sound, that guy made his move again…”

“Should I go help him? After all, I’d be happy to cause some trouble for that dull-witted barbarian right now…” Brinster playfully looked at the coin in his hand, “Everything is up to fate.”

Saying that, Brinster tossed the coin high into the air. The silver coin spun and moved, shimmering in the moonlight, but in the end, it couldn't escape the force of the earth and fell down.

“Clink!” The coin landed on the ground with a crisp sound. “Your luck isn't bad, it's heads.” Saying that, Brinster didn't pay any attention to the silver coin. Instead, he lightly leaped from the rooftop and landed on the opposite side of the city wall…

If Li Fenghuang had seen this scene, he would probably have been heartbroken first, then he would have frantically searched for the coin…

“Crude barbarian, you’ve chased me for so long, and you’re still a good-for-nothing who only thinks with his muscles, hahaha!” Under the moonlight, Brinster moved a finger, and the flintlock pistol spun in his hand before he tucked it into his waist. Brinster curled a strand of hair from his forehead with his finger and pointed to his temple, “To do things, you have to think with this, not like a fool like you! For example…”

“Snap!” Brinster lightly snapped his fingers on the eaves.

“Puff, puff, puff… Whoosh!” In an instant, grey smoke billowed across South Gate Street, and the fog was so thick that one couldn't tell north, south, east, or west!

Li Fenghuang lay on the ground, the bleeding debuff continuously eroding his life. His HP had already dropped to 4 points, and he was on the verge of death. He was half-closing his eyes, already at his last breath…

“Sigh…”

At this moment, the pungent smoke entered Li Fenghuang's nose.

“Cough, cough!” Li Fenghuang spat out another mouthful of clotted blood from his body, struggling, but unable to exert any strength. Finally, he just weakly opened his eyes, “Arms Dealer, Brinster, I didn’t expect anyone to come save me. How interesting… Heh heh heh… I’m really, really unlucky… Heh heh, heh heh heh!” Seeing the sky-filling smoke and the gunshot from before, Li Fenghuang knew that the arms dealer had arrived.

“Bang bang bang!” Dazzling muzzle flashes and three violent gunshots came from within the smoke.

“Woohoo—!” A curly-haired man with wheat-colored skin, holding a gun in one hand and a grappling hook rope in the other, swung down from the rooftop eaves. His body moved rapidly through the air above the street, intertwining with the evening breeze of Buweier Town, causing his light grey-blue long coat to flap in the wind.

Brinster fired three shots in mid-air, then floated down in front of Li Fenghuang.

“Hey, your luck is really good, you got to meet me today!” After landing, Brinster cheerfully greeted Li Fenghuang, who was sprawled on the ground.

“Heh, if it weren’t for your reputation, huff, I, I wouldn’t be so miserable. Anyway, thank, thanks…”

“Hahaha, isn’t being famous a good thing? Thank you for acknowledging my fame, you’re someone worth talking to for a bit.”

“Pfft!” Li Fenghuang’s words pulled at his internal wounds, causing him to spit out another mouthful of blood.

“Boom!” The sound of a collapsing wall came from not far away. It seemed Aaron had located Brinster’s previous firing position in the air through the muzzle flashes and charged over. However, Brinster had already left that position using his grappling hook, so Aaron only struck an innocent wall.

Wall owner: “Let me say thank you, because of you, my home is bare…”

“You saw me coming, do you have to be so excited?” Brinster looked at Li Fenghuang’s complex expression, thinking it was joy from seeing someone come to save him.

“It’s really serious…” Brinster took out a weak healing potion from his embrace, opened the bottle cap, pried open Li Fenghuang’s mouth, and poured it down his throat, “We need to be quick.”

Brinster had already fought with that Bounty Hunter before. He knew that a mere wall couldn't harm Aaron.

Li Fenghuang's life was now hanging by a thread, but the weakness debuff remained, leaving him almost unable to exert any strength. At the same time, the bleeding debuff also persisted, continuously draining his vitality. Li Fenghuang knew that if he didn't deal with this bleeding debuff in time, he wouldn't escape death's embrace later.

“Bang bang!” This time there were only two shots. Brinster’s modified flintlock could only hold three bullets.

“Clang clang!” Li Fenghuang, who had recovered a small portion of his condition, heard two distinct blocking sounds this time and saw the sparks as Aaron blocked the bullets in the smoke.

“That old man’s stuff is really good. I’ll go ask him for more when I get back.” Saying that, Brinster threw a flashbang at his feet.

“Close your eyes!” Brinster pulled Li Fenghuang up, somewhat laboriously hoisting him onto his back. At the same time, Brinster’s grappling hook shot out, taking him and Li Fenghuang along with it!

“Clang!” The very next second Brinster and Li Fenghuang stood up, a sharp great axe, without any warning, grazed Li Fenghuang’s clothes and struck the ground, splitting the flagstone-paved main street into pieces with a violent crash.

Evidently, Aaron had once again located Brinster’s position through the flintlock’s muzzle flash. He made no unnecessary movements, emitted no unnecessary sounds, and directly swung his axe there. Because he knew that as a seasoned hunter, every action, every sound could expose him. A true hunter would not shout before attacking.

“Whoosh—!” A sharp bang, coupled with dazzling white light, lit up from beneath Aaron’s body.

“Hahahaha, foolish barbarian, I’ve set it up for you!” Brinster carried Li Fenghuang, using the grappling hook to traverse the already deserted streets. The moment Aaron broke through the door, the people on the street began to flee the scene, not to mention the gunshots that followed, which didn't belong to this era.

“Hold on tight!” Brinster held both the flintlock and the grappling hook in one hand, while skillfully reloading the flintlock with the other.

“Bang bang bang!” Three more gunshots.

Li Fenghuang couldn’t help but look back, and his jaw dropped. First, it was Brinster’s marksmanship; moving at high speed in the air, he fired three shots, each hitting its target. But what was even more astonishing was that although Aaron was temporarily blinded and deafened, and was hit by three bullets simultaneously, deep red blood aura and energy similar to magic fluctuations appeared around his body, preventing the bullets from penetrating him by even a millimeter. In the end, although the bullets broke his skin, the wounds left were less than half a centimeter deep.

Then, Li Fenghuang, who was firmly holding onto Brinster’s back, saw his view shift, and Aaron completely disappeared from his sight. It seemed they had successfully escaped, and Li Fenghuang let out a long sigh of relief.

“Phew…”

When Aaron regained his sight and hearing, and the smoke on the street cleared, Li Fenghuang and Brinster were nowhere to be seen.

“Argh!” Aaron roared in fury. He had let him escape again, and he even took someone with him. Tonight, Aaron had another failed hunt; this was his second failed hunt… Thinking of this, Aaron was furious, “Damn Brinster, his strange contraption interfered with my sight, smell, and hearing! Next time, next time you won’t escape from my grasp!”

Aaron, without changing his expression, gouged the musket bullets from his flesh with his hand, “Brinster, I will keep hunting you down. As for that kid, I don’t believe you can protect him forever!”

Aaron stretched his limbs, gripping his Bounty Hunter's Axe tightly, “It’s almost time. Under the hunt, I feel like I’m about to advance to the next level. Then, how will you escape?”
