Chapter 16: Rain spell

After the Jingxin era name, there was 'Great Governance', with at least several decades in between.

The Xuantian Sect, as a chaotic force, always sought to subvert the established order.

Zhao Xing first heard of them during the 'Great Governance' era of Emperor Jing's reign; they were dormant during the Martial God period, became active again in the late period, and flourished in the Revival version.

The reason he remembered them so vividly was that this chaotic force loved to stir up trouble, which was very unfriendly to a Stable Farmer player like him.

After a moment of thought, Zhao Xing gave up and decided to put it aside.

He didn't have a quest panel now, only a personal panel. In his previous life, he would have participated in any hint of a quest, trying to gain any advantage he could.

But now, he was just a small ant, and he didn't have the ability to revive. For Zhao Xing in this life, as long as it didn't interfere with his farming for longevity, he wouldn't join in any excitement.

"It's best to inquire less about societal matters. As long as they don't bother me, who cares about the Xuantian Sect or the Xuandi Sect?"

After receiving the official permit and bidding farewell to Pang Fei, Zhao Xing headed straight for the temple.

He didn't even bother to worship Earl Donghu, to avoid being asked to practice martial arts again, and went directly to the Hall of True Monarch Cao Xi.

The ceremonial official guarding the hall was also somewhat surprised to see Zhao Xing. How long had it been? Why was he back again?

"The document is fine, go in."

"Thank you."

Zhao Xing quickly entered the hall and sat cross-legged on a prayer mat. At this time, there were still seven or eight people in the hall, from various professions, but no one made a sound, only quietly closing their eyes to receive the Spell.

The moment Zhao Xing closed his eyes, he felt a flash of golden light, and the next moment he seemed to be on a grassland.

Different Spell transmission scenes meant different Spells were being learned. Zhao Xing couldn't tell which Spell this scene belonged to, but he silently prayed in his heart: "I want to cast Rain, I want to cast Rain, True Monarch, please don't make a mistake, I beg you..."

As if hearing Zhao Xing's prayer, a dark cloud soon began to appear above the grassland.

"Rumble!"

Lightning flashed and thunder roared.

Pitter-patter ~

A coolness enveloped Zhao Xing, and soon raindrops fell on him, as if falling directly into his mind.

"Whoosh ~"

The rain grew heavier and heavier.

Moving Clouds, Thunder, and Casting Rain, these three Spells were performed in sequence, cycling repeatedly, constantly manifesting in Zhao Xing's mind.

After an unknown amount of time, Zhao Xing opened his eyes, and a new Spell knowledge appeared in his mind: 【Cast Rain】

【Cast Rain: Elementary Spell】

【Progress: (0 / 9999)】

【Effect: Precisely control rainfall.】

He cupped his hands to the True Monarch and silently exited the main hall.

The ceremonial official guarding the hall glanced at Zhao Xing's retreating figure, muttering to himself: "Strange, this person prayed for rain and truly comprehended Cast Rain. Does the True Monarch grant his every wish?"

With the 【Cast Rain】 Spell in hand, Zhao Xing was in a very good mood.

What kind of Farmer can't make it rain?

"The key to Cast Rain lies in 'casting', which allows for precise control of rainfall. If it were other professions, the amount would be entirely up to fate."

Some professions could also make it rain, but the Spell effects and names were different, and they weren't as useful as the Farmer's.

For example, the temple ceremonial official he had just seen, they had a Spell called 【Pray for Rain】, but it was difficult to control the specific amount of rain. To achieve that, they had to 【Set up an Altar】, and also prepare offerings. No matter how simplified, they would at least need to carry some yellow paper.

"Teacher, I have newly comprehended 【Cast Rain】. Please guide me, Teacher."

After learning the Spell, he couldn't wait to return to the Huailiu Courtyard of the Agricultural Bureau.

Old Farmer Xue Wen Zhong smiled and said: "You are quite lucky, getting exactly what you wish for. You now have all four heavenly Spells."

Of course I'm lucky. I inherited part of the Great Li's Luck, and it has already branched twice. How many people in the entire Gucheng have branched twice? I'm afraid only the County Magistrate and the chief officials of various institutions could possibly have it.

"There's no trick to the Cast Rain Spell; it's simply a matter of practicing more. Perform Moving Clouds, Raising Wind, Thunder, and Cast Rain in sequence, and meticulously control the Spell, and you will naturally be able to control the rainfall."

"The only thing to consider is external influences," Xue Wen Zhong explained. "For example, in Huailiu Courtyard, which is always in the beginning of spring, the water vapor is abundant. If you cast 【Cast Rain】, the final rainfall might be more than you anticipated."

"If you go to the eastern suburbs, where the climate is dry, and cast Rain, the rainfall might be less than you anticipated."

Zhao Xing, of course, knew all this. He even understood it better than Xue Wen Zhong. Because in his previous life, Farmer players faced even harsher environments during the Calamity Era, and were often tricked... It was a tearful memory.

For this, Zhao Xing had developed a set of 'Influence Factor' formulas, and was able to maintain minimal error even in the 'Origin Qi Tide' version, which was notoriously unfriendly to Farmer players.

He just didn't know if it would still work now, after all, he wasn't a player anymore.

Next came the practice.

Zhao Xing practiced 【Cast Rain】 in the courtyard.

The first time he cast the Spell, Xue Wen Zhong stood by his side, guiding him.

The third time, Xue Wen Zhong stood on the steps.

The tenth time, the old Farmer sat on a bench.

After that... Xue Wen Zhong simply lay in his reclining chair, resting with his eyes closed.

Because Zhao Xing no longer needed teaching; he had never seen anyone comprehend so quickly.

"If this child doesn't become a Farmer, it would truly be a divine punishment," Xue Wen Zhong exclaimed from the bottom of his heart after the practice.

However, he still offered encouragement: "Your Cast Rain still has many shortcomings. The environment is a disturbance, but it can also be a help."

"Can't you utilize that small puddle in the corner to save your Origin Qi? Why do you always aim to counteract it?"

Zhao Xing opened his mouth, wanting to explain something, but couldn't.

He couldn't possibly say that the environment would become so harsh in the future that it would be difficult to borrow from it, could he? Being able to maintain the counteraction was already good enough. For his current Realm, saying such things would be premature.

"You are right to admonish me."

Next, there was still half an hour to practice other Spells, but suddenly a servant came to find Xue Wen Zhong, running in hurriedly and saying something.

Although Xue Wen Zhong's expression didn't change, his words revealed a sense of unease: "Today's extra practice ends here. I might not have time tomorrow, so you should practice on your own."

With that, Xue Wen Zhong followed the servant and left.

What happened?

Zhao Xing was a bit puzzled.

But since the other person didn't say, he couldn't ask.

After returning home that day, Zhao Xing lay in bed, unable to sleep, feeling a sense of unease.

He originally didn't want to investigate, but the old Farmer was one of the keys to his official appointment. If something happened to him, other Farmers might not be willing to recommend him.

"Tomorrow, I still need to inquire. If there's truly a change, it's better to make plans early." Having made up his mind, Zhao Xing put on two more talismans and went to the Great Dream Academy to observe. He found that there was still no movement in the mist, so he withdrew and slept peacefully.

Unexpectedly, early the next morning, he heard bad news.
