Chapter 74: Public Security Bureau filing

“Who was acting like a hooligan?”

The leading Public Security Officer stared intently at Comrade Chen Jianye, on guard, and questioned him.

“It was those three.”

“Comrade Chen Jianye knocked them down and saved me.”

Ran Qiuye pointed at the three men and quickly said.

“The young man did well.”

The leading Public Security Officer smiled at Comrade Chen Jianye.

Another Public Security Officer took out a rope and took over the hooligans Comrade Chen Jianye had dragged over.

“Acting bravely for a just cause is everyone’s duty!”

“And I hate it most when people act like hooligans.”

Comrade Chen Jianye said righteously.

“Hmm, if everyone learned from you, we would have an easier time.”

The leading Old Public Security Officer was very satisfied.

“Master, something’s not right, these three are too heavily injured.”

“We probably can’t get them back by ourselves.”

The younger Public Security Officer, after tying up one hooligan, noticed that the hooligan’s injuries were severe; he couldn’t even stand up and walk.

“Let me see.”

The Old Public Security Officer squatted down.

He fumbled around on the hooligan’s body a few times and gasped.

These few people were indeed not lightly injured.

When Public Security Officers handle cases and apprehend criminals, violence is unavoidable, but usually, punches and kicks don’t cause such severe injuries.

The men lay on the ground like mud.

The younger Public Security Officer glanced at Comrade Chen Jianye again.

He secretly thought that the young man looked amiable but was really ruthless.

“Young man, did you hit all three of these people?”

The Old Public Security Officer asked.

“Yes.”

Comrade Chen Jianye nodded.

“Have you studied martial arts?”

“Yes, I have.”

“You’re really ruthless. You should try to avoid fighting with people in the future.”

“At the time, those three had knives, and I had no choice; I couldn’t hold back my strength.”

Comrade Chen Jianye explained.

“I’m not blaming you; I’m just reminding you that if you learn martial arts, you need to cultivate your inner energy to sustain it in the long run.”

“As the saying goes, ‘chivalry with martial arts can violate prohibitions.’ If you learn martial arts and encounter injustice, you might act impulsively and cause trouble.”

The Old Public Security Officer warned.

“Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind.”

Comrade Chen Jianye said sincerely.

What the other party said was indeed correct.

The first time he went to the Black Market, Comrade Chen Jianye, relying on his martial arts skills, killed five people.

When a person has ability, they will naturally use it.

Whether it’s entrapment or a fit of rage, it disrupts social order.

That’s why Comrade Chen Jianye had always been unwilling to deal with the Public Security.

“Normally, encountering such a thing, you two wouldn’t need to go back to give statements.”

“However, you injured them too severely, so we have to go through the process. You two should come with us to the Public Security Bureau.”

The Old Public Security Officer arranged.

“I have no problem.”

Comrade Chen Jianye was very cooperative.

“I have no problem either.”

Ran Qiuye nodded.

After the Young Police Officer tied up the three hooligans, the three big men each carried one.

Ran Qiuye followed beside them.

They arrived at the Public Security Bureau.

The Old Public Security Officer took statements from both Ran Qiuye and Comrade Chen Jianye, then specifically called Comrade Chen Jianye aside.

“Young man, who is your Master?”

The Old Public Security Officer questioned.

“My Master didn’t tell me his name, I’m sorry.”

Comrade Chen Jianye said vaguely.

He didn't have a Master, it was all thanks to the system rewards.

“Alright, since you don’t know, I won’t force it.”

“I’ve already filed your situation at the Bureau. You don’t need to worry; as long as you are honest and don’t do bad things, it won’t have any impact on you.”

“Even if our Public Security asks for your help, we will give you appropriate compensation; we won’t forcibly requisition you.”

The Old Public Security Officer said.

“No problem.”

Comrade Chen Jianye’s heart skipped a beat slightly, but he remained calm on the surface.

Sure enough, he shouldn't have acted with reckless courage.

If he had followed his original idea and called for help after leaving the alley, nothing would have happened.

Now, he had shown his ability and was on the Public Security’s record.

And it wasted an extra hour.

It was all that tall young man’s fault just now; why be a hooligan if you don’t have any skills?

Trying to forcefully show off, he was a typical example of someone who got into trouble by showing off.

“Young man, you may go.”

“Remember, you must abide by the law and never use the skills you’ve learned for evil.”

Before leaving, the Old Public Security Officer seriously instructed him.

“Master, do you think Comrade Chen Jianye has a problem?”

After Comrade Chen Jianye left, the Young Police Officer quickly asked.

“I just checked his information. This young man has no parents, no relatives, and possesses great skill.”

“Looking at him, it’s like looking at a volcano.”

The Old Public Security Officer’s tone was deep.

“A volcano? The kind that could erupt at any time? That’s very dangerous.”

The Young Police Officer tentatively asked, “Master, should I call him back?”

“Call him back for what, to invite him to dinner?”

The Old Public Security Officer said grumpily, “He hasn’t committed any crimes. We’ve filed his case, and the process is complete. Why cause more trouble?”

“Oh.”

The Young Police Officer scratched his head, hiding his embarrassment.

Outside the Public Security Bureau.

“I’m really sorry, Comrade Chen Jianye, for taking up your time.”

Ran Qiuye said with an apologetic look.

“It’s nothing.”

Comrade Chen Jianye smiled and walked towards the bus stop.

In his heart, he prayed that no one with body odor would come again.

“Comrade Chen Jianye, where are you going?”

Ran Qiuye asked tentatively.

Somehow, she wanted to talk more with Comrade Chen Jianye and get to know him better.

If they parted ways like this, they would become strangers again.

“To the Library, and you?”

Comrade Chen Jianye asked.

“What a coincidence, I’m also going to the Library.”

Ran Qiuye’s face broke into a smile.

“Then it’s perfect to go together.”

Comrade Chen Jianye said with a smile.

“What kind of books do you read at the Library? Do you go often?”

Ran Qiuye proactively started a conversation.

“I read books on Carpentry, studying Carpentry knowledge.”

“I go whenever I have a holiday.”

Comrade Chen Jianye replied.

“Are you a Carpentry? I can’t tell.”

Ran Qiuye was a little surprised.

As they talked, their understanding of each other gradually deepened.

Comrade Chen Jianye learned that Ran Qiuye had recently graduated and was considering whether to study abroad in the second half of the year.

‘It’s 1961 now, Ran Qiuye isn’t a returnee yet.’

Comrade Chen Jianye thought to himself.

Ran Qiuye also learned that Comrade Chen Jianye worked in the Pliers worker team of the First Workshop at the Rolling Mill and had just become a regular employee.

When the bus arrived, they got on together and continued to chat.

Ran Qiuye asked most of the questions.

Two stops before the Library, a middle-aged man with a particularly strong body odor got on.

He exuded the smell of someone who hadn't bathed in half a year and had been cooped up in bed for half a year.

Ran Qiuye covered her nose.

“We’ll get off at the next stop.”

Comrade Chen Jianye also felt like he had been hit by a magic attack.

“Okay.”

Ran Qiuye nodded.

After they got off the bus, they walked to the Library.

It was already close to eleven in the morning.

“Comrade Chen Jianye, did you bring any dry food?”

“Or how about I treat you to a meal? You saved me, and I should repay you.”

Ran Qiuye offered.

“I did.”

Comrade Chen Jianye patted his cloth bag.

“Alright, then next time, don’t bring any, and I’ll treat you to a meal.”

Ran Qiuye said.

The two arrived at the Library counter. Comrade Chen Jianye took out Carpentry books.

Ran Qiuye, on the other hand, took out a book with a foreign language cover, with the letters “Walden” written on it.

“Walden, Comrade Ran Qiuye, are you reading the original English version directly?”

Comrade Chen Jianye was very surprised.

It was only 1961, and not many people could read the original English version.

“Oh, you actually recognize it?”

Ran Qiuye was even more surprised.

She had thought Comrade Chen Jianye was a worker and didn't understand literary works, but he recognized the book title at a glance.

This surprised her even more than his martial arts skills.

“Just a little.”

Comrade Chen Jianye smiled and didn’t explain further.

Before transmigrating, he was at least a college graduate, even if a bachelor's degree was common, simple English couldn’t stump him.
