Chapter 1: I am your father

“Hiss! So painful!”

Fang Yang only felt a sharp pain in his head.

Then he heard a loud roar: “Rebellious son! You’ve gone too far, how dare you pee into Jijiu’s wine gourd!”

Fang Yang stared blankly at the man in front of him, who looked barely forty, held a horsewhip, was dressed in ancient attire, and had an angry expression.

He asked in confusion, “Who are you?”

“You ask who I am? I am your father!” the middle-aged man roared sharply.

“Bah! I’m your father!” Fang Yang had never been taken advantage of like this and immediately retorted.

In an instant, the scene fell into a deathly silence.

Then came another roar: “Rebellious son! You’re defying heaven! You’re defying heaven! Today, if I don’t beat you to death, you rebellious son!”

Seeing the horsewhip raised high, Fang Yang was startled and quickly jumped off the bed.

“Bang!”

With a dull thud, the quilt was actually whipped to shreds, revealing the cotton batting inside.

“Holy crap! You’re serious!”

Fang Yang was terrified.

He turned and ran.

He still remembered being a model youth of the 21st century, who didn't pay attention while crossing the street and was sent flying by a Tesla.

Waking up to this scene left him speechless.

Seeing the middle-aged man behind him getting closer, Fang Yang spotted a large tree ahead and climbed it in a few swift movements.

His speed even startled Fang Yang himself.

“Rebellious son, get down here!”

Looking at the exasperated middle-aged man, Fang Yang immediately found it amusing and directly said, “Come on! If you have the guts, come up!”

“You!”

The man’s lips trembled with anger.

He sneered and said, “Heh heh, go up? Do you really think I have no way just because you’re up in a tree? Bring me a knife!”

Immediately, two servants hurried away.

Before long, the two men ran back, carrying a large knife as tall as a man.

“Rebellious son! Today, as your father, I will let you know what filial piety means!”

‘Bang!’

The large knife suddenly chopped into the tree trunk, the blade sinking in halfway.

The entire tree swayed three times.

Fang Yang was shocked; he had never seen such a vicious person.

Just as he was about to curse, he felt a dizzy spell in his mind.

Then a flood of memories poured into his brain.

It gave him a sense of detachment.

But soon, he understood some things.

This fierce man in front of him was indeed his father, the Duke of Cheng, Fang Jingsheng, of the current dynasty.

And he, Fang Yang, was this man’s only son, a Guo Gong Fu (Duke's Residence) young master who was on a downward spiral.

The reason for the current situation was that the original owner was studying at Imperial Academy, didn’t want to go to school, and led a group of classmates to pee into Jijiu’s wine gourd. Afterwards, he was betrayed and directly expelled from Imperial Academy.

Fang Yang couldn't help but feel speechless; this original owner was truly foolish.

There were many ways to avoid school, but he chose the most extreme one, and most importantly, he didn’t eliminate the potential threats.

Looking at his cheap old father below the tree, who had cut a gap in the large tree with just two or three chops.

Fang Yang felt his scalp tingle again; this old man’s combat power was a bit too high!

The most urgent task was to appease this cheap old man’s anger.

As the saying goes, even a tiger doesn’t eat its cubs. As long as he genuinely repented, he could definitely turn a big problem into a small one, and a small one into nothing!

So, Fang Yang gritted his teeth and slid down the other side of the tree.

Then he knelt on the ground with a ‘thud’.

“Father, your son knows his mistake.”

His head was bowed, looking like someone who knew his mistakes and could correct them.

The sudden scene made Fang Jingsheng pause.

The raised knife stopped abruptly, almost making him sprain his waist.

He casually stuck the long knife into the ground, grabbed the horsewhip, and said coldly, “Rebellious son! You finally know your mistake!”

“Father, your son is unfilial! I have let down your expectations!” Fang Yang’s voice choked.

Fang Jingsheng: “......”

He was a bit confused; why did his son feel a bit off?

“Speak! Why did you pee into Jijiu’s gourd?” Fang Jingsheng demanded coldly.

“Your son doesn’t want to study,” Fang Yang shouted boldly.

“Rebellious son! Do you know how much silver I spent to send you to Imperial Academy? That was five thousand taels, a full five thousand taels!” Fang Jingsheng roared.

“Father, it’s already like this. Your son knows his mistake, and your son will definitely correct his ways from now on,” Fang Yang quickly said.

“Heh, it’s already like this, is it?” Fang Jingsheng frowned, raising his horsewhip as if to strike.

Seeing this, Fang Yang’s mind immediately replayed the image of the thin quilt being whipped open.

Without another word, he flashed to the long knife stuck in the ground.

He leaned his head against the blade, grabbed the hilt with one hand, and shouted loudly, “Since Father is unwilling to forgive me, then your son can only atone with death!”

As he spoke, his neck moved towards the blade.

Fang Jingsheng was so startled that he shivered, dropping the horsewhip without noticing, and quickly yelled, “Stop!”

Fang Yang looked at Fang Jingsheng with teary eyes: “Father, your son is unfilial, and will not be able to serve by your side in the future. You must take good care of your health!”

His neck moved another half an inch towards the blade.

“No! No!” Fang Jingsheng’s eyes widened, and he quickly shouted out.

Seeing this, Fang Yang also stopped his movements, his eyes fixed on Fang Jingsheng.

Fang Jingsheng, scared, said with a trembling voice, “Son, Father isn’t blaming you, not blaming you! Put the knife down, it’s alright, it’s alright!”

He was truly afraid. Eighteen years ago, his wife died in childbirth, leaving him with only this one son.

For eighteen years, he had raised this rebellious son by himself, never once bearing to scold or hit him, which was why his son had developed his current personality.

Thinking carefully, what fault did his son have? If a son is not taught, it is the father’s fault!

If there was a mistake, it was his own mistake. If he had properly disciplined this rebellious son from a young age, why would it have come to this point?

Fang Jingsheng sighed helplessly.

Fang Yang, however, looked at Fang Jingsheng with full vigilance and asked, “Father, have you truly forgiven me?”

“Yes, I’ve forgiven you. It’s not your fault, it’s Father’s fault for not teaching you well, alas…” Fang Jingsheng let out another long sigh.

Meanwhile, Fang Yang had already released the hilt of the knife, stood up, and brushed the dirt off his knees.

It was as if nothing had happened just now.

Seeing this, Fang Jingsheng quickly came over, grabbed Fang Yang, and began to check his neck for injuries.

Seeing that it was still perfectly smooth, he finally relaxed.

He casually pulled out the long knife and threw it aside.

Then he called out helplessly, “Yang’er.”

Seeing that the other party no longer intended to strike, Fang Yang finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He replied, “Your son is here.”

“Alas.”

Fang Jingsheng felt dejected and sighed again.

Then he continued, “Yang’er, although our Duke Chengguo Residence is still a Duke's Residence, it has been passed down for ten generations to my generation. Our Duke Chengguo Residence has long been without money or power. This time, Father spent all his savings and couldn't even secure a position. In the end, he gritted his teeth and took on this border patrol duty. If you keep causing trouble like this, how can Father protect you?”

“Father’s teachings are right, your son will always keep them in mind,” Fang Yang said, looking like he had turned over a new leaf.

“Hmm, this time Father will be out on border patrol for two or three months at the fastest, or half a year at the slowest. You must be well-behaved at home and absolutely do not cause any more trouble,” Fang Jingsheng instructed.

“Father, don’t worry, your son will absolutely not do anything illegal or disorderly!” Fang Yang promised.

It was rare to transmigrate to ancient times and even become Duke Chengguo's son. He definitely had to enjoy himself to the fullest.

The things the original owner did before, only a fool would do.

All he had to do here were three things: enjoy! enjoy! and still enjoy!

“Alright, that’s it then. Since you’ve been expelled, just stay at home obediently. Father needs to leave quickly. If it weren’t for your expulsion, Father would have already left the capital.”

Seeing Fang Jingsheng about to leave.

Fang Yang quickly called out, “Father!”

“What is it?” Fang Jingsheng asked curiously.

Fang Yang directly held out one hand.

“What?” Fang Jingsheng looked confused.

“I’m out of money. Give me a few thousand taels to spend,” Fang Yang said with a righteous air.

Upon hearing this, Fang Jingsheng immediately became angry.

But seeing Fang Yang’s gaze still fixed on the large knife not far away, he suddenly felt helpless.

He could only say earnestly, “Son, it’s not that Father won’t give it to you, but our family truly has no money left.”

“No money left?”

Fang Yang frowned.

Fang Jingsheng quickly nodded.

Fang Yang’s frown deepened.

After a good while, he said, “Father, don’t lie to me. I know you pawned my mother’s dowry before, and that exchanged for tens of thousands of taels!”

Fang Jingsheng paused.

Then he frowned and said, “Rebellious son, what do you want to do?!”

“It costs money even at home, Father. Give me a few thousand taels, and I’ll obediently wait for you to come back, how about that?” Fang Yang coaxed.

Fang Jingsheng felt his eyebrow twitch furiously.

Looking at Fang Yang’s cunning appearance, he no longer bothered to deal with him.

With a wave of his hand, he shouted at the maids nearby, “Take the young master to the study! Lian’er, you supervise the young master and make sure he studies well. Before I return from patrol, the young master is not allowed to step half a step out of the Guo Gong Fu (Duke's Residence)!”

Fang Yang couldn’t help but be stunned.

He had been waiting for his cheap old man to bargain, but he never expected this old man to directly lock him up.

How could this be!

He had just arrived here and hadn’t even enjoyed life yet, how could he be locked up!

So he quickly shouted, “Father! Not a few thousand taels, one thousand taels! One thousand taels is fine too.”

Fang Jingsheng’s lips twitched.

He simply couldn't be bothered with this unfilial son.

With a big wave of his hand.

A group of servants instantly grabbed Fang Yang.

“What are you doing! What are you doing! Don’t you believe I’ll sell you all off?!” Fang Yang roared in anger.

But no one paid him any mind, and they simply lifted Fang Yang up.

Seeing that he was about to be carried away.

Fang Yang continued to shout, “Father! Don’t be like this! Let’s talk this over. I’ve thought about it, one thousand taels is a bit much. Give me five hundred taels! Five hundred taels is fine, I promise, once I have the money, I’ll wait obediently at home for you to come back!”

Fang Yang shouted loudly.

Fang Jingsheng couldn’t help but clench his fists.

“You rebellious son! You want to trick me out of money to gamble again! Give up that idea! I’m telling you, I used all that money for gifts! Now the entire Guo Gong Fu (Duke's Residence) has no extra silver for you to use!”

Fang Jingsheng was furious.

And at this moment, a voice sounded from not far away.

“Fang Bo.”

Everyone was startled.

Fang Yang looked up and saw a woman in a light blue long dress, with skin like snow and a fair, tender face, standing at the entrance.

She looked at his disheveled appearance with an indifferent expression.

Fang Yang’s heart, however, stirred. To be precise, it should have been the original owner’s thoughts at play.

Because this was his fiancée, Miss Song, Song Yiran, whom he had meticulously cared for since childhood.

Fang Jingsheng’s expression also softened when he saw the newcomer.

He said gently, “Yiran, are you here to see Yang’er?”

Song Yiran had a gentle smile on her face, her chin slightly raised, and she walked with graceful steps towards Fang Yang and his father.

Seeing this.

Fang Yang quickly asked the servants to put him down, but no one moved until Fang Jingsheng waved his hand, and only then did the servants put Fang Yang down.

The father and son watched as Song Yiran walked towards them with Lian Er-like steps.

Upon reaching the two, Song Yiran took out a piece of brocade paper and said neither humbly nor arrogantly, “Fang Bo, I am here to annul the engagement!”
