Chapter 14: The devil in the smoke! Hurrah!

After shouting these words, Andrei looked outside through the periscope in the trench.

As soon as this wave of shelling ended, the enemy Soldiers on the opposite position had already begun to charge.

He wondered if it was because the previous round of shelling not only covered the enemy's positions but also their own, leading the enemy to believe that the Soldiers on this position had already retreated.

At least Andrei noticed that they didn't conduct any artillery preparation when charging, which clearly seemed a bit rushed.

However, it was clear that the earlier incoming shelling didn't just prevent Andrei's company from retreating in time; some other units also hadn't retreated.

In just a blink of an eye, gunshots erupted from trenches in other areas, and mortars, set up somewhere unknown, were also firing at the charging enemy Soldiers.

Encountering machine gun and artillery fire, the enemy Soldiers in that area quickly dropped to the ground, and at the same time, shells from the rear of the enemy's position also blasted towards the firing trenches.

“Officer, we…”

Next to Andrei, a new recruit heard the distant gunshots and opened his mouth to say something, but Andrei gestured, saying:

“Don’t speak, ignore them!”

“Get ready, charge when I tell you to!”

Besides the distant positions, enemies were also slowly approaching Andrei’s side, but because they didn’t retaliate or even show their heads, the enemy didn’t discover anyone here at all.

Watching the approaching enemies, Andrei couldn’t help but hold his breath.

Now was the crucial moment; once they were exposed, the enemy’s artillery fire would immediately shift over, and under the suppression of artillery fire, his company would be annihilated!

Even with Players, they couldn’t withstand the enemy’s continuous bombardment!

The enemies were getting closer and closer; watching them gradually approach, Andrei’s heart couldn’t help but pound.

What he feared most now was that these people would try a probing attack before charging, such as throwing a round of grenades before they even got close.

Secondly, he feared that some idiotic Player might suddenly lose his mind and jump out to kill indiscriminately, as a major characteristic of Players was their uncontrollability.

But it seemed these enemies weren’t particularly experienced in combat; at least, they didn’t throw a round of grenades first after getting close before considering anything else.

And the Players were very well-behaved; perhaps because of Andrei's cautious demeanor, the Players all thought they were running a storyline, so in the chat area, they were warning each other not to act on their own!

Just as this group of Soldiers in iron-black uniforms gradually approached, almost reaching the edge of the trench, Andrei suddenly blew his whistle forcefully.

The sharp whistle suddenly sounded, instantly startling the enemy outside; before these guys could react, a series of smoke grenades had already been thrown out by the Players.

He wondered what brand of smoke grenades the Players used; the smoke spread incredibly fast. Even without wind assistance, in just one or two seconds, this large section of the trench was enveloped in grayish-white smoke.

“Brothers, follow me and charge! Urah—!”

Hao Nan Ge, a Player who charged particularly fiercely, rushed out first, letting out a rather Russian-sounding war cry.

Other Players and the surrounding Soldiers, hearing this “Urah,” seemed to be injected with adrenaline, all rushing out with fixed bayonets.

Although the smoke was thick and the situation ahead was unclear, Players could see marked enemies in the smoke.

Tat-tat-tat! Tat-tat-tat!

Hao Nan Ge, wielding an M1918, continuously fired intense bursts at the enemy, emptying a magazine in an instant. Other Players also fired various automatic weapons at the enemy, instantly killing a large number of them.

“Smoke grenades! Don’t forget the smoke grenades, keep smoking!”

“Don’t stop, everyone charge!”

Andrei also rushed out with his unknown pistol, calling out to the Players ahead as he ran, telling them not to get carried away with killing.

Without smoke grenades, this group of them would all be cannon fodder in front of the enemy’s heavy machine guns and artillery!

But it was clear that the Players’ combat skills, or rather game skills, were far more proficient than Andrei had imagined.

Along the way, Players continuously threw smoke grenades while firing, and every now and then, Players with melee weapons would rush into the smoke, slaughtering the still-confused enemy Soldiers.

While killing, they were also discussing in the chat area that the NPCs in this game reacted much slower than the NPCs in Battlefield.

Watching their discussion, Andrei couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

That goes without saying!

For normal people, suddenly being hit in the face with a bunch of smoke grenades, followed by a dozen submachine guns and machine guns spraying bullets, if they could organize an effective counterattack immediately, that would be truly bizarre!

Other ordinary Soldiers didn’t have equipment as good as the Players, but they were also fearless, charging forward with fixed bayonets.

“Urah—! Kill those damned Black Hawk devils!”

“Long live the Cambrian Empire! Long live the Tsar!”

“You dog, taste my big dong!”

Perhaps it was because the other Soldiers also knew they were fighting for survival in a desperate situation, or perhaps it was due to Andrei's not-so-obvious leadership skill.

At this moment, the bayonet charge unleashed by these Soldiers was truly imposing, sending the enemies fleeing in terror.

Although their vision was obscured by the smoke, they didn’t need to see too clearly.

They weren't shooting; they just needed to see those Soldiers in black uniforms, then charge and stab them with their bayonets!

Andrei had been somewhat nervous, thinking he would have to rush in and kill, fearing his small pistol might accidentally hit a teammate.

But looking at these guys, he felt he was purely overthinking.

With the speed he was charging at, he wouldn't even be able to get a warm kill!

After charging for a distance, Andrei, worried that the Soldiers might get scattered in the smoke, quickly blew his whistle again.

As soon as the whistle sounded, a Soldier with a fixed bayonet immediately ran up beside him.

“Captain, our men are all scattered. What if we hit our own?”

Andrei, in his excitement, kept moving and shouted loudly:

“Shoot at anyone charging towards us; anyone charging towards us must be the enemy! Even if they’re our own, anyone running backward now is a deserter!”

“Brothers, charge! Urah—!”
