Chapter 10: Sea of Consciousness

At this moment, Gu Wanhao was concerned about the Yao Beast predicament the Family was about to face, and seeing that Gu Changhuan was not injured, he did not pay much attention to him.

Gu Changhuan returned to his room, sat on the bed, sighed, and put the book in his hand into his Storage Pouch.

After calming down, Gu Changhuan was no longer flustered and no longer tangled with philosophical questions about whether he was Gu Huan or Gu Changhuan. Gu Changhuan was also called Gu Huan before going to Bifeng Mountain. He accepted Gu Huan's memories from his previous life and possessed his way of thinking, but in this life, he was Gu Changhuan!

Gu Changhuan did not know that he had inadvertently passed the Heart Demon Tribulation, which was dreaded in the Cultivation World. However, Heart Demons mostly appeared to tempt Cultivators when they advanced to the Nascent Soul Stage. It was extremely rare for a Cultivator like Gu Changhuan, who had just embarked on the path of Cultivation, to encounter a Heart Demon Tribulation.

It was also because the Gu Family's foundation was shallow. If it were a large Family or a major School, their scriptures would have many records indicating that those with Spirit Bodies were prone to encountering Heart Demons at the beginning of their Cultivation. Therefore, Spirit Body Cultivators were mostly cautious at the beginning of their Cultivation, adhering to a clear and pure heart to prevent Heart Demon attacks.

He just didn't know why that brocade cloth had followed him to this life. Or was it because of the brocade cloth that he was able to know his past life's memories? If that were truly the case, then this piece of brocade cloth likely had a significant origin.

Gu Changhuan was momentarily unable to comprehend it.

However, Gu Changhuan was not someone who easily got stuck on minor issues. For him, being able to awaken his past life's memories was already a gain. After all, the mindset of a modern adult and that of a child in the Cultivation World were vastly different. With the mindset from his previous life, Gu Changhuan would walk further and more smoothly on the path of Cultivation!

Gu Changhuan slept very soundly that night and was full of energy early the next morning. Seeing this, Gu Wanhao put aside the minor interlude from the previous night, completely unaware that Gu Changhuan had encountered a Heart Demon last night.

"Good morning, Great Grandfather," Gu Changhuan said, seeing Gu Wanhao looking ready to depart.

"Is Great Grandfather going to the market today?"

Gu Wanhao responded with a sound. He handed Gu Changhuan a metal square plate.

"This is the Formation Plate that controls the courtyard Formation. Gu Changhuan, keep it safe. Do you remember what Great Grandfather told you?" he asked.

"Gu Changhuan remembers. Before going to bed and Cultivating, I must check the Formation. Great Grandfather, don't worry, I won't be negligent!" Gu Changhuan said seriously.

Gu Wanhao nodded and further admonished, "Diligent Cultivation is good, but you must also be careful not to overdo it and damage your Meridians."

Although neither of them was hungry, the grandfather and grandson ate breakfast together. After Gu Wanhao left, Gu Changhuan went to the Scripture Pavilion to continue studying, just like the day before.

"Good morning, Great Grandfather."

Gu Xuanzhan waved his hand, "Sit down!"

Gu Changhuan sat on the futon, his eyes filled with a thirst for knowledge as he looked at Gu Xuanzhan. Unsure what his Great Grandfather would teach him today, Gu Changhuan suppressed the excitement in his heart and reminded himself to calm down, not wanting his Great Grandfather to notice anything. After all, most children his age were unwilling to study.

"Today, I will teach you how to use Divine Sense and some things about Yao Beasts."

The Nine Serenity Mountain Range, where the Gu Family was located, was adjacent to the Yao Beast territory, so understanding Yao Beasts was a compulsory lesson for Gu Family disciples.

Gu Xuanzhan slowly said, "Divine Sense is the power emitted by the Divine Soul. It is both tangible and intangible, and can even take form after one's Cultivation is profound. Divine Sense is like an extra pair of eyes for a Cultivator. How to use Divine Sense is not difficult. Divine Sense is hidden in the Sea of Consciousness, which is located at the center of the eyebrows, in the Niwan Palace. You can focus your mind and look inward at your Sea of Consciousness, and you will find your Divine Sense."

Gu Changhuan followed Gu Xuanzhan's instructions, cleared his mind of distractions, and after a moment, saw his Sea of Consciousness. The Sea of Consciousness was vast and boundless, yet it was hazy. His Divine Sense was like a small fish, swimming in the Sea of Consciousness. With a thought, Gu Changhuan's Divine Sense fish quickly swam out of the Sea of Consciousness. The Divine Sense circled Gu Changhuan, and even with his eyes closed, Gu Changhuan could "see" everything in the outside world. This was truly amazing!

He wondered if it was Gu Changhuan's illusion, but when his Divine Sense returned to his Sea of Consciousness, it seemed to have shrunk slightly. Was Divine Sense a consumable? Would it decrease after use? Gu Changhuan continued to observe his Divine Sense and found that it slowly returned to its original size in the Sea of Consciousness.

Gu Changhuan breathed a sigh of relief. It turned out that Divine Sense, like Qi, could slowly recover.

"What is that?" Gu Changhuan was startled!

He saw a golden speck of light in his Sea of Consciousness. The golden speck of light flickered in and out of existence, no wonder Gu Changhuan hadn't seen it before.

Gu Changhuan's Divine Sense swept over it, and that golden speck of light turned out to be a palm-sized piece of golden brocade cloth.

So, when the brocade cloth disappeared, it had been hidden in his Sea of Consciousness all along!

Gu Changhuan carefully "looked" at the brocade cloth. He saw that the palm-sized brocade cloth had three scattered green dots and one purple dot on it.

He carefully looked at those small dots and found that below the purple dot was his own name, "Gu Changhuan." Below one of the dark green dots was his Great Grandfather's name, "Gu Xuanzhan." The two light green dots represented "Medium Grade Spirit Wine of the Second Rank" and "High Grade Futon of the First Rank," and so on.

Gu Changhuan noticed that the green dots for First Rank items were much lighter in color than those for Second Rank items.

In his previous life, the item names displayed on the brocade cloth did not have color distinctions, nor did they show people's names. Now, there were some changes. Was there some other mystery within?

Moreover, if First Rank and Second Rank items were displayed as green on the brocade cloth, why was the dot representing him, who was only at the Qi Training Stage, purple?

Gu Changhuan had many questions. This brocade cloth had accompanied him from his previous life to this one, so it must be a treasure. Perhaps it was even his Opportunity for the Great Dao, but how to utilize this Opportunity was also a problem, as the brocade cloth could only display things within a twenty-meter radius of him.

Perhaps this brocade cloth had other wonderful uses that he hadn't discovered yet? he thought.

Gu Changhuan left his Sea of Consciousness.

"Great Grandfather, I succeeded!"

He had already decided that he couldn't tell anyone about possessing a rare treasure, because an innocent man with a treasure is guilty!

This was the same principle as Gu Changhuan not being able to reveal that he possessed a Spirit Body, but it was even more severe! After all, the Spirit Body was Gu Changhuan's own, and short of Possession, others couldn't obtain it. But a treasure was something that belonged to whoever obtained it!

Just like how Gu Huan's friend in his previous life became greedy after learning of the item's existence, if the existence and marvelous uses of the brocade cloth were known to outsiders, his outcome would likely not be any better than in his previous life.

Although the Cultivation World was vast and there were countless Magic Treasures with mysterious uses, perhaps no one would care about a strange brocade cloth that could only display things within twenty meters. However, Gu Changhuan could not and dared not take that risk.
