Chapter 21: Battle of Five Armies(2)

"Retreat!" Thranduil shouted angrily after witnessing his people being killed by the orcs.

A huge amount of wood-attributed Dou Qi gathered in his body, and a green crescent moon rose behind him...

"Swish!" Thranduil waved the crescent moon and threw it away. The crescent moon flew around the battlefield as if it had a spirit. All the orcs within a radius of 50 meters with Thranduil as the center were cut in half.

"Damn! Elf Hunter? The highest-level ranger?" Even Roland and his companions who were watching the battle on the hillside noticed this exceptionally beautiful crescent moon.

"Hunting Moon! A unique combat skill of the Hunter. The crescent moon will automatically attack marked enemies within a 50-meter radius of the caster." Caslo took a look and explained the details.

"This Woodland Kingdom has quite a good foundation. It's not as bad as I thought." Roland was a little surprised.

Thanks to the elves' long lifespan, almost all of them could become professionals. They had ample time and experience to hone their magic and combat skills. Roland was somewhat surprised that Thranduil led nearly 5,000 professional elves. However, the elves' pitiful population and fertility...

"Ah!" The huge ogres came out of the cave carrying a simple small catapult on their backs. They slammed their arms on the ground to support the catapult firmly, and the orcs on their shoulders and standing behind them worked together to load a huge stone into the catapult.

"Boom!" Several huge rocks flew across the sky and slammed heavily into the Valley City.

"Ah~" Several elf archers who were shooting on a pile of stones were thrown out by the huge rocks.

"Ouch!" The flying debris hit the head of the human soldier who was running below. The soldier howled in pain and fell down limply.

"Kill! For the Forest Goddess!" An elven ranger watched as several elven archers who had been providing cover were surrounded by several ugly orcs. Having just retreated from the battlefield, he gritted his teeth and turned back to kill...

"Hold on!" Several human defenders armed with spears tried their best to use their spears to stab down the orcs who climbed up the ruined battlements.

"Roar!" A giant ogre with a stone battering ram on his head roared, took a few running steps, lowered his head and slammed hard into the outermost wall of Valley City.

"Crash!" Along with the sound of the ogre falling to the ground, the city wall, which had been in disrepair for a long time, could no longer bear the weight and collapsed, leaving a hole more than ten meters wide.

"Abandon the city wall! Prepare for street fighting!" Bad said to his soldiers in pain as he watched the city wall being breached.

"Barn! Take the women and children to the church!" Bud pulled his panicked son over.

"Ha!" Under the city of Erebor, Dain Ironfoot was leading the Ironfoot Army of only more than a thousand people to desperately resist the orcs.

"Clang, clang, clang!" The sophisticated dwarf crossbow played a huge role, and a rain of arrows successfully suppressed the orcs' offensive.

"Roar!" The dwarf berserker went berserk and swung his weapon to kill the orcs who rushed in front of the formation in a few seconds.

"Thorin! Where are you? We need you!" Dain Ironfoot called out the dwarf king's name in pain.

At this moment, Thorin was standing before a mountain of wealth, caressing the treasures belonging to the king at the foot of the mountain with a smile on his face... His followers, standing on the high walls of Erebor, watched in agony as their fellow tribesmen were slaughtered by the orcs...

"Swish!" Thranduil rode the Moon Deer and rushed all the way, hacking and hitting the orcs who were blocking the stone bridge leading to the city gate to death.

"Ouch..." The Moon Deer beneath him howled in pain, then dropped to its knees and threw Thranduil out. Only then did Thranduil realize that several crude iron swords were stuck in the Moon Deer's chest. This place had been occupied by orcs! Thranduil was the last elf to withdraw from the battlefield... The others either retreated into the city or died outside...

He looked around and saw a dozen ordinary orcs surrounding him.

"Heh~" He sneered. When did even lowly, ordinary orcs dare to approach him? Thranduil couldn't help but feel angry.

"Swish!" The sharp elf double blades drew a beautiful arc in the air, and more than a dozen orcs were instantly ripped open by the blade.

"This..." He quickly shuttled through the city with double blades in hand. Faced with the elves lying dead on the ground along the way, he couldn't help but vent his anger on the orcs he met.

Finally, he encountered a group of elves who were resisting stubbornly. He roared, brandished the weapon in his hand, and quickly, accurately, and ruthlessly cut off the necks of the orcs.

"Gather our troops!" Thranduil ordered the elves under his command.

"Let's get out of this damn place!" Thranduil said angrily. He had originally planned to take away the elves' favorite treasure - the holy white gem. Who would have thought that he would be beaten badly by the orcs before he could even compete with the dwarves. In just a short while, at least nearly a thousand elves died in this damn place.

"You can't do this! You can't leave!" Tao Lier flashed in front of Thranduil.

"My people have shed enough blood for this land!" Thranduil said coldly. He was unwilling to sacrifice the lives of his people for the dwarves and humans.

"Dwarves and humans still need us!" Tao Lieer pleaded bitterly.

"Forget it, let's retreat..." Roland sighed and shook his head. It was too chaotic. Humans, elves, dwarves, and orcs were almost beating their brains out here. Roland retreated. He was unwilling to put his subordinates in danger. If he joined a group battle for wealth and risked annihilation, the most likely result would be that everyone would be left behind.

"Why, sir? Aren't we staying here looking for an opportunity to attack?" Renault raised his head in surprise.

"Why retreat? They need us..." Renault insisted.

As expected, Renault was still as troublemaking as he had been in history. Roland held his head helplessly. Renault, known as the Dawn of the North, was recognized by everyone precisely because of his chivalrous spirit. He drew his sword for the weak! He swung his sword against the stronger! He fought for unarmed civilians! He fought for his allies!

"We have almost no chance of winning. Even if we have dragon knights, it is far from enough! The orc reinforcements from Gangbada are on the way, and we have no ability to turn the tide of the battle!" Roland patiently explained to his subordinates.

No one said anything. Hundreds of people were silent. Everyone understood the truth, but they couldn't just walk away like that.

Roland looked at the silent crowd and frowned helplessly. Perhaps because he was familiar with the essence of all this, Roland had lost the opportunity to empathize with everyone else. He might never understand the knights of the Lagran Empire's pursuit of glory...

"Sorry! My king! This may be the first and last time I disobey your orders! The honor of a knight does not allow us to abandon our allies!" Renault suddenly raised his head and gave Roland a standard knight's salute and said.

"Don't forget that you are also a noble paladin!" Renault bowed slightly.

"Soldiers of Lagran! The glory of our ancestors still flows in our blood! The water of the Rapid River still nourishes our homeland! Maybe we will fail today! Maybe we will die! But the will of the empire will never die! We! Join! the war!" Renault jumped on his horse, raised his dragon spear and roared.

"For the glory of the Empire!"

"Long live Lagrande!"

"The Swift River protects you and me!"

"Use my longbow to point the way!"

Suddenly everyone was excited. The mark of Lagran's glory had long been deeply engraved in the depths of their souls by the system. For the sake of their homeland and glory, they were willing to become enemies with the world!

"Perhaps you are right. I am also a knight." Roland quietly looked at every face in front of him, smiled gently, and placed his hand on the hilt of the Dragon Slaying Sword.

After a long while, Roland raised his head and looked towards the Lonely Mountain battlefield where fighting was going on in the distance.

"Then let's join the battle! For the glory of the knights! For the glory of Lagrande!" Roland drew his dragon-slaying sword and mounted his horse.
