Chapter 24: hard victory

"..." Roland stared blankly at Raven Ridge, not knowing what he was thinking.

"Caslo!" Roland wailed.

Hearing his lord's call, Kaslo immediately broke free from the entanglement of a group of bats and flew quickly towards Roland.

"Send me to Raven Ridge!" Roland said angrily.

Kaslo, who had just landed, nearly fell off the dragon's back when he heard this. "Ah, a huge sum of money to die?" Kaslo refused to send his lord up, no matter what. "You must be kidding!" Forget about a third-rank Grand Knight. Even a Knight like Renault would be a freeloader.

"Cry~" The loud cry of an eagle resounded through the sky.

"The giant eagles are coming..." Bilber said excitedly.

"Roar!" Druid Bion fell from the sky and used natural magic to transform into a giant bear.

"Roar!" A gust of wind blew, and a tall ogre had his head chopped off by his palm. His huge body plowed across the battlefield, crushing a bloody path of flesh and blood among a group of orcs. His thick fur gave him unparalleled defense.

The giant eagles swooped down, and their huge and sharp claws easily tore apart the war bats flying in the sky, and the sky suddenly became clear.

The brown-robed wizard Radagast waved his staff and released a wood-attributed area magic. Within a mile radius, thick thorns broke out of the ground and tightly entangled the orcs around him. The dwarves and Raglan soldiers who were well prepared thrust their weapons into their bodies.

"Bang!" With the sound of the sword blade scratching across the neck, Thorin suddenly found that there was no orc in front of him.

Bard and Thranduil of Dale also killed all the orcs who invaded Dale.

The Elf Prince Legolas was shooting happily from the top of the arrow tower when he suddenly realized that there were no living Orcs in sight, only wailing humans and wounded elves. He was stunned for a moment, then jumped down from the tower...

"Bang!" Roland rolled over after landing, trying to avoid a possible attack. However, when he looked up, he saw Caslo's wandering eyes, and the corners of his mouth twitched.

On the huge Raven Ridge, there was no one except the fallen flag on the ground that Azog used to command the orcs. The orcs could be seen leaving through the smoke on the mountain.

"They ran away, sir!" Caslo shook his head helplessly.

"Azog is really a thief..." Kaslo sighed in his heart.

"Why would they retreat when they have such an advantage?" Roland was puzzled.

"They don't want to face the Knights on the plains." Kaslo rolled his eyes at Roland. "If the orcs hadn't run away, do you think I would have brought you up?" Kaslo, who flew high and saw far, had already seen that when the giant eagle and the druid arrived, he found that the orcs were beginning to retreat.

"To devour our knights, in this kind of terrain, they will have to pay the price of at least tens of thousands of people. Don't forget, my lord, you have a knight order of a hundred men led by a Paladin of the Royal Guards of Lagran! They are not ordinary people with the title of knights, but 100 genuine second-level professionals." Caslo spread out his hands.

"Besides, with our deliberate actions, the orcs will be badly damaged even if they win. Don't forget that we have the air superiority in our hands now. Without the distraction of the war bats, I can definitely tell the orcs about the majesty of the dragon clan." Caslo saw it clearly.

The orcs had their own agenda. They served the sage Sauron, the undead, to ensure orcish domination of Middle-earth, not to devastate their own race. Azog had originally intended to attack lightly, and even the reinforcements from Gundabad were meager. Who could have foreseen so many twists and turns? A single knightly order was fine, but three hundred infantrymen charging against over twenty thousand was manageable. Even the sudden appearance of two rare paladins was manageable, but the invulnerable druids were excessive. And the giant eagles tearing through war bats like paper was outrageous. And the worst part was, there was even a dragon rider! What was so unbearable? Azog said he was terrified when the dragons took flight. Didn't you see they even raised the command banner? If he had jogged a few steps, he would have been reduced to orcish pieces by the wind blades. From that moment on, he considered fleeing, but the arrival of the giant eagles completely reassured Azog. Run! If you run away, you can still survive. If you don’t run away, you will definitely be buried here.

Azog, who was on the run, even suspected that the Battle of Lonely Mountain was a conspiracy against the orcs. If the armies of elves, dwarves and humans were not so small, Azog would definitely think that someone was plotting against him.

"Plop!" Roland knelt directly in front of the bodies of the Flood Infantrymen. They had not marched far; from the moment they encountered the Orcs until their annihilation, they had only advanced about a mile. Within this 500-meter-long battlefield lay the bodies of nearly 2,000 Orcs and 300 Flood Infantrymen. All of the Flood Infantrymen had suffered fatal wounds in the front. Even at the moment of death, they had not stopped charging...

"Azog! Borg! I will definitely kill you!" Roland said hatefully.

The knights and Badaniyan archers silently carried the bodies of the Torrent Infantrymen and displayed them separately. The atmosphere was extremely depressing. Brothers who had lived together day and night were now lying here in a cold and icy state. Everyone present had a grim expression and gnashed their teeth...

Roland led his men to dig through the frozen ground on Raven Ridge and bury the Swiftstream Infantrymen there. They lived to stop the enemies from crossing Raven Ridge, and after death, let them rest here to protect the tranquility of the mountain...

"Congratulations to the host for winning the Battle of Lonely Mountain! Participation rate is 87%! The system is being updated! The task panel is loading..." For the first time, the system has been updated!

"Update completed! The system has unlocked functions: shopping mall, mission hall, and storage."

"Rewards for the Battle of Lonely Mountain are being distributed..." It hasn't ended yet.

"Reward city: Jiliu Town! The host can materialize at any time on land that meets the conditions." Finally, the system prompt ended.

Roland was stunned by this moment, and of course, he was overjoyed. Having already lost 300 Swiftstream soldiers, Roland's resources had been greatly reduced, but he hadn't expected to make such a huge profit. The final reward was actually a town! For Roland, who had no fixed territory, this was a lifesaver. Most importantly, the name of this town was prefixed with "Swiftstream Town"!

This "River" isn't for nothing! Only towns on either side of the River are called "River Towns." Crucially, all "River Towns" can recruit a special unit—River Troopers! While regular Empire Towns only recruit common units like the Imperial Guard, "River Troopers"—this ubiquitous unit can only be recruited in cities along the River.

What's more, this is a real world, and the combat effectiveness of the Stream Infantry has been tested in war, and it is definitely considered a main force.

Roland pondered the town reward and made plans. He planned to build it at the mouth of the original Long Lake, the same location where Riverwind stood in the Lord of the Rings games. Riverwind had originally been just a small town. Roland firmly believed that through his efforts, he could restore Riverwind's splendor and grandeur to this town, using it as a starting point to revive Raglan's glory! However... he should discuss the issue of compensation with Thorin now.

Roland clapped his hands, jumped on his horse, and rushed towards Thorin and others who were collecting the remains of the dwarf warriors in front of the city of Ilubor.
