Chapter 68: Cardan Hussars

"Damn it! Get out of here!" A cavalryman from the city of Losenniel roared, raising his spear.

"Roar!" The roar of the orcs came faintly from the woods behind them.

"The orcs are speeding up and heading north!" The cavalry captain spat as he galloped through the woods.

"Gather the troops! If you flee separately, you will be defeated one by one!" The cavalry captain had a good vision. They were not professionals, but cavalrymen riding war horses. If they were scattered, they would not be able to compete with the professional orc vanguard.

"The fighting has already started in the north! I knew there would be no peace in the south!" a cavalryman said angrily.

The orcs from Togoldo successfully deceived Peter Gro and Kaslo. They hid deep in the woods during the day and came out at night, creating the illusion that the large army was still slowly moving north. If Bai Yi and Iovia had not been cautious enough to send the only cavalry team in the city out for reconnaissance, the orcs might have really fooled them.

"Brothers! We are the light cavalry of the Cardan tribe! Don't give up hope! Stay loyal to the king and the tribe..." shouted several leading light cavalry.

With the loud shouts of several people, the scattered cavalrymen were gradually gathered together. Heavy breathing came out of their mouths and the mouths of their horses, which was particularly obvious in the cold winter.

"Don't give up... Escape from the forest! We..." A shrill shout ended a thrown axe falling from the sky.

"Damn! They're in the trees!" The sharp-eyed cavalryman spotted the orc scouts hiding in the canopy of dense evergreen trees.

"Kill!" The leading light cavalryman roared and threw the pistol in his hand.

"Chichichi!" A shrill scream came from the mouth of the orc, and he casually drew the broken steel knife from his waist and chopped the spear away.

"Professional Orcs—" The cavalryman only had time to send out half of the warning before an orc fell from the sky and tore off his head. However, his death successfully alerted the cavalrymen behind him.

"Get out!" The cavalrymen who led the way did not use weapons to fight back but chose a more effective attack method. The huge bodies of their warhorses slammed into the orc warriors in front of them with the force of thunder.

"Crack!" The crisp and pleasant sound of broken bones was simply the most beautiful music he had ever heard in his life.

"Don't be alone! Be careful of the enemies hiding in the treetops ahead!" Several cavalrymen who dodged the flying axes loudly reminded their companions and took out their bows and arrows and rushed forward to shoot. Although the Kadan tribe, originally a nomadic people, had few cavalrymen, it still had elite cavalry like all other nomadic tribes.

"Damn it!" The cavalrymen's eyes turned red as they watched their companions falling off their horses and dying.

"Don't die here! The king needs us! Our families are still waiting for us to go home!" The only three remaining cavalry captains used words to encourage the fleeing light cavalry.

"These damn orcs!" A cavalryman gritted his teeth in anger, his fists clenched so tightly that blood was coming out.

"Don't stop! Go through this woods quickly! The city of Losenniel is just ahead!" After seeing the dark forest emerging just a few miles ahead, the cavalry captain roared like crazy. They knew that the newly born Kingdom of Akvia needed this mobile force. Apart from the noble knights in the kingdom, they were the last mobile force in the entire kingdom.

“Ouch~”

"Wolf howl?"

"Damn it! It's a warg!"

"The Wolf Riders are coming! Everyone gather!"

The sudden howl of wolves behind them interrupted everyone's thoughts. It was obvious that the orcs wanted to keep this precious cavalry in this forest. Azog must have been able to spit out any soldier he saw riding a horse. The Holy Knights during the Battle of Lonely Mountain left an indelible psychological trauma on Azog.

"Roar~" A muffled roar sounded, and suddenly a team of wolf cavalrymen holding steel knives jumped out from behind the fallen trees nearby and rushed towards the crowd.

"Gun formation!" The well-trained wilderness cavalry were not lambs to be slaughtered. They raised their sharp spears high and pointed them in the direction of the wolf cavalry.

"Ahhh~" The wolf howled in pain after being hit by several spears. It struggled to avoid the cavalry's escape path. The bloody holes on its body torn by the spears told what a painful lesson it had just suffered.

"Captain! It seems there are no Orc scouts ahead!" A cavalryman rode over and said.

"That's right!" the cavalry captain said fiercely. It was already embarrassing to have their retreat route cut off by a small group of orcs. They couldn't let the orcs occupy the entire route of retreat, could they? If that happened, it would only show that this group of cavalry had become incredibly slow-witted and unforgivable.

"Ah--" The whistling mace smashed a careless cavalryman to pieces. The chain mail and leather armor on his body could not block this deadly heavy weapon at all.

"Puff! Crack!" The first sound was the sound of the spear tearing flesh, and the second sound was the sound of the spear breaking under the high-speed impact!

The whistling iron hooves left behind only a twitching orc and a warg that was knocked unconscious by the warhorse.

"Roar!" An orc chasing the cavalry found the right opportunity and pounced on them on his wolf.

"No!" The cavalrymen beside him could only watch helplessly as their companions and mounts were thrown down, while they themselves could only pass by as their horses galloped at high speed...

"Uh..." The cavalryman, with blood foam surging down his throat, used his last bit of strength to stab the dagger in his hand into the eye socket of the orc who twisted his neck.

"Kill!" The extremely elastic spear was swung up. The orc, who had never expected the human in front of him to attack unconventionally, was violently whipped away from the wolf. Looking at the twisted angle of its head and neck after it landed on the ground, it was clear that this guy was doomed.

More and more wolf riders came from behind, and for a moment, all behind them was the howling of wolves...

"Charge out!" The cavalrymen rushed out of the forest. The warm sunshine outside and the city of Los Saintniel in the distance reminded them that they were home!

"Hurry! Let's go home!" The last cavalry captain shouted fiercely, clutching his bloody waist. The massive blood loss had made his eyes blurry, and he slowly collapsed on his horse's back...

"Roar! Kill them!" The angry wolf cavalry commander waved the blood-stained sword in his hand.

"Crack~" Dozens of the hundreds of wolf cavalrymen chasing behind raised their hunting bows, and the crude iron bows made a teeth-grinding crackling sound.

"Bang!" With a muffled sound, dozens of wolf-tooth arrows flew through the air.

"Dodge the arrows!" A cavalryman who heard the noise shouted a warning.

"Clang, clang, clang!" Most of the arrows missed their targets, and the few that fell into the crowd were blocked by others.

"Quick! The knights are coming to help us!"

The gates of the distant city of Losenniel have been opened, and countless Cardan knights in plate armor have poured out like a tide.

"Kill them all!" Bai Yi, who was standing on the top of the city wall and looking at the less than half of the light cavalry from afar, sounded as if his voice came from the underworld.
