Chapter 14: Teleport

“Lo Ge, you are my god!”

Zhang Yao looked at Wang Luo with admiration. He never imagined that Pokémon could be trained this way. How could he not know that Wang Luo had gone easy on him during their battle?

If Slowpoke had started with Calm Mind, Charmander would probably have been taken out by a single Confusion.

“With Slowpoke’s ‘Thousand Arrows’ just now, I doubt many high school students in the entire Bincheng No. 1 High School could withstand it, right?”

Wang Luo shook his head upon hearing this. He knew his own situation. Slowpoke hadn't completely mastered this move yet. In Wang Luo’s estimation, only when Slowpoke could perform this move without external water sources would it be considered to have initially mastered it.

But this step was not so easy to achieve; Slowpoke needed to further master the energy of the Water-type attribute.

“As expected of a master, still not satisfied even at this level.”

After Zhang Yao spoke, his eyes became resolute. He made up his mind to diligently practice the moves Wang Luo had taught him.

“But it’s already very strong! You’ve made Confusion so versatile.”

Wang Luo smiled wryly, “I was forced into it. If I had money, I’d also buy Technical Machines like Teleport, Amnesia…”

“The key is a lack of money, so I can only focus on Confusion.”

Yes, Wang Luo’s development of Slowpoke’s Confusion ultimate move was mainly to compensate for its shortcomings.

Undeniably, Slowpoke indeed had significant flaws, first and foremost being its speed.

Slowpoke’s speed was simply too slow. Even if its reaction speed kept up, its slow movement speed meant Slowpoke’s mobility in battle lagged far behind other Pokémon.

Being slow was one thing, but Slowpoke also lacked certain defensive capabilities.

Amnesia, a Psychic-type move that could boost Slowpoke’s Special Defense, was naturally learned as levels increased in the game, but this was reality.

The reality was that some Slowpoke might never learn a Psychic-type ultimate move in their entire lives, let alone a high-level ultimate move like Teleport.

So Wang Luo could only develop Confusion, this versatile move, to compensate for Slowpoke’s speed, and combine it with Water Gun to improve its movement and attack capabilities.

Zhang Yao fell silent upon hearing this. He, of course, knew how expensive Technical Machines were. Take Double Team, which he wanted to learn, for example; the Pokémon shop clearly priced it at 50,000 alliance currency.

And a high-level Psychic-type Technical Machine like Teleport couldn't be bought for less than 200,000.

Suddenly, Zhang Yao’s eyes lit up, as if he had thought of something.

“I know! There’s a Trainer at the Haohan Elf Club who has a Pokémon that knows Teleport. If your Slowpoke asks him for guidance, it might be able to learn it.”

“Really?”

Wang Luo was also moved. If Slowpoke could learn Teleport, it would undoubtedly be one step closer to establishing a complete tactical system.

“But that Trainer is the club’s star Trainer; ordinary people can’t even get an appointment. Let’s go back to the club first, and I’ll ask around.”

“Mm-hmm, okay.”

It concerned the improvement of his Pokémon’s strength, so he wasn't willing to give up even a glimmer of hope.

...

Haohan Club, fourth floor, Psychic training room.

A muscular middle-aged man in a vest and a refined man wearing glasses were sitting cross-legged in the training room, drinking tea.

The muscular man spoke first: “Aren’t you really going to consider it? Although it’s my member who asked me, you haven’t taken on members for a long time, have you? Taking one occasionally is also giving the boss some face, right?”

The man with glasses frowned, “What’s there to teach those little brats? They haven’t even laid a good foundation. An ordinary-level Trainer is enough.”

Then he glanced at the muscular man again and said earnestly, “Zhou Jian, it’s not me talking, but you’ve been stuck at the Senior Level for over a year, haven’t you? Can’t you take some time to properly hone your own Pokémon?”

“Sigh.”

Zhou Jian sighed deeply: “I’m not like you. My aptitude isn’t as good as yours. To break through to the Senior Level, I need to prepare more resources for my Pokémon.”

The man with glasses said nothing after hearing this; after all, their ideas differed.

Zhou Jian stood up and downed the tea in his cup.

“Alright, I won’t force you then. But that kid is indeed a bit odd. His initial Pokémon is a Slowpoke and he wants to learn Teleport. Don’t you think that’s ridiculous?”

“Wait…”

“Let that kid come over.”

...

When Wang Luo heard that he was to go to the fourth floor, he could hardly believe it, because he hadn’t had much hope to begin with.

After recovering, he was overjoyed and quickly followed Zhou Jian up to the fourth floor.

“Alright, Coach Zhao’s training room is here. You can go in yourself.”

Zhou Jian said to Wang Luo and then left directly. He still had to help Zhang Yao train. He heard that his Charmander had lost to a Slowpoke, so it seemed he needed to train harder, otherwise he couldn’t afford to lose face.

Looking at the door in front of him, Wang Luo nervously knocked gently.

“Come in.”

Wang Luo opened the door. A man with glasses and an ordinary appearance was sitting by the side, drinking tea.

Although the man looked ordinary, his eyes were very deep, making people involuntarily fall into them.

A Psychic!

Wang Luo was startled. The man in front of him was a Psychic whose strength far exceeded his own.

“Oh?”

The man looked at Wang Luo in surprise.

“I didn’t expect you, little fellow, to also be a Psychic. No wonder you were able to choose such a Slowpoke with Psychic talent.”

“Come and sit.”

Looking at the nervous little fellow in front of him made Zhao Wenli feel a bit nostalgic. He smiled and said:

“My name is Zhao Wenli, and I am the Psychic-type Trainer at this club. I heard your Slowpoke wants to learn Teleport?”

Zhao Wenli took a sip of tea and continued, “Do you know that Teleport is a high-level move? Besides Pokémon with exceptional talent like Abra, it’s very difficult for other Pokémon to learn.”

“I know, but without learning this move, my Slowpoke can only cope with weaker opponents. Against masters, it will definitely be easily defeated.”

Zhao Wenli was a bit surprised. This was not the insight a beginner Trainer would have. It seemed he was indeed a good prospect.

“Good, since you are prepared, then follow me.”

Zhao Wenli stood up and walked towards an adjacent room.

“It’s starting already?”

Wang Luo thought to himself, aren’t they going to assess his Pokémon? He knew that Coach Zhao’s standards for teaching members were very strict.

But it was certainly better to start early. With that thought, Wang Luo quickly followed him.

This was an empty room with basically no facilities, except for a pedestal-like device in the center of the room, with a purple gem covered by a glass dome inside.

“Come out, Kadabra.”

With a flash of red light, a fox-like Pokémon, entirely yellow, appeared in front of Zhao Wenli.

It had long, pointed ears, a red five-pointed star pattern on its forehead, two tufts of hair resembling a mustache, and it held a spoon in its right hand.

It was the most representative Psychic-type Pokémon.

Kadabra!
