Chapter 56: Let’s... go get the certificate!

“What are you thinking about?”

Lu Mingyu’s tone couldn’t help but become a little heavier.

“My mother is not that kind of person.”

“No one in my family judges a person based on their profession.”

“She doesn’t care what your profession is, do you understand?”

“Don’t listen to all those messy rumors online.”

“My mother is really nice; you’ll know when you meet her later.”

Lu Mingyu explained somewhat clumsily but with immense sincerity.

“Really?”

Gu Lina Zha’s voice was still full of doubt.

“She really… wasn’t unhappy at all?”

Lu Mingyu took a deep breath.

He felt that at this moment, any verbal explanation seemed pale and powerless.

He remembered the look in his mother’s eyes when he left the room just now—gentle, loving, and full of tolerance.

“My mother told me herself.”

His voice became exceptionally serious and solemn at this moment.

“She said that no matter what family or status the girl came from,”

“as long as I like her, and as long as she has good character, our whole family will support me.”

“She said not to have any pressure.”

He repeated his mother’s exact words, clearly, word by word.

Every word was like the most effective calming pill,

steadily falling into Gu Lina Zha’s heart through the airwaves.

On the other end of the phone, there was another long silence.

But this time, the silence was no longer due to nervousness and panic.

Lu Mingyu could even faintly hear her sniffing, as if she was trying to control her emotions.

“So, stop overthinking it.”

“My family members are all very good; they will definitely like you very much when they meet you later.”

He gave her the firmest promise with the most certain tone.

“You are so good; they have no reason not to like you.”

This simple, unadorned, even somewhat direct compliment,

moved Gu Lina Zha’s heart more than any meticulously crafted sweet words.

“Hmph, you only say nice things to coax me.”

The voice on the other end of the phone finally sounded again, with a strong nasal tone.

But the previous sense of panic and helplessness had disappeared, replaced by a hint of playful petulance.

Lu Mingyu knew that the heavy stone in her heart had finally fallen completely.

He leaned against the headboard, completely relaxed, the smile on his lips deepening.

“I’m telling the truth.”

“Besides,” he changed the subject, his tone somewhat teasing.

“Even if you regret it now, it’s already too late.”

“Hmm?” Gu Lina Zha was a little confused by his abrupt remark.

“What do you mean? What’s too late to regret?”

Lu Mingyu changed to a more comfortable position and said,

“Isn’t my salary card still with you?”

“That’s the bride price I gave you in advance.”

“Since the bride price has been accepted, there’s no returning it, and no regretting it.”

“For this lifetime, from inside to out, from top to bottom, you are Lu Mingyu’s person.”

His declaration, half-serious and half-joking, made Gu Lina Zha on the other end of the phone freeze solid.

She seemed to be processing the meaning of his words.

Then, a clear, melodious laugh, like wind chimes, unexpectedly came from the receiver.

Listening to the clear, melodious laughter, like silver bells, coming from the phone,

Lu Mingyu felt his entire heart about to melt.

He felt that being able to hear such laughter in this lifetime,

made all the hardships and dangers he had experienced before worthwhile.

There was no hint of gloom in that laughter, full of the taste of sunshine.

It dispelled the last bit of worry he had about his mother.

“Naza.”

He couldn’t help but softly call her name, his voice filled with unprecedented tenderness.

“Hmm?”

Gu Lina Zha’s laughter gradually subsided, leaving only slight gasps.

She responded with a slightly lazy nasal sound.

Lu Mingyu held his phone and adjusted his sitting posture on the bed.

As if the words he was about to say required all his strength and courage.

He hesitated for a moment, the special forces captain who was decisive on the battlefield and never showed the slightest hesitation,

now looked like a young boy experiencing his first love.

“I have a mission next month, in mid-month.”

His voice was a little dry, but exceptionally clear.

“After the mission ends, there should be a not-so-short vacation.”

Gu Lina Zha listened quietly on the other end of the phone, not interrupting; she could feel Lu Mingyu’s nervousness.

“When I’m on vacation, we…”

Lu Mingyu paused again here.

He took a deep breath, as if making a major decision.

“Let’s go get our marriage certificate, okay?”

He almost mustered all the courage in his life to ask this question.

After asking, his heart hung high.

Fine beads of sweat even appeared on his palms.

He was afraid of hearing any refusal or hesitant answer.

On the other end of the phone, there was a brief silence.

These few seconds of silence felt like an eternity to Lu Mingyu.

Just as he thought he was too eager and had scared her,

Gu Lina Zha’s voice gently sounded again.

“So fast?”

She was a little surprised, and also had a girl’s shyness.

Lu Mingyu’s heart sank sharply.

He was about to explain that it was okay if it wasn’t fast, he could wait.

But Gu Lina Zha’s next words made him freeze in place.

“Okay.”

Only one word, simple, direct, yet heavy as a thousand pounds.

“I’ll listen to you.”

She added, her tone full of trust and dependence on him.

Lu Mingyu felt as if he had been struck by a huge lightning bolt of happiness.

He was completely dazed, his head buzzing.

He even wondered if he was hallucinating because he wanted to get married too much.

“You… what did you say? I didn’t hear clearly.”

His voice also began to tremble.

Gu Lina Zha on the other end of the phone seemed amused by his silly appearance and let out a soft chuckle.

“I said, okay, Captain Lu.”

“When you come back from your vacation, we’ll go get the certificate.”

“However, you’ll have to find a way to ‘steal’ the household registration book from your home, you know.”

Her later words carried a clear teasing meaning.

But the promise was real.

“Good! Good! Good!”

Lu Mingyu said “good” three times in a row, so excited he almost jumped off the bed.

“Don’t worry about the household registration book, leave it to me!”

He patted his chest, promising like a child who had received his beloved candy.

The two of them lingered for a while longer before reluctantly hanging up the phone.

After hanging up, Lu Mingyu could no longer suppress the ecstasy in his heart.

He held his phone and paced back and forth in the room like a trapped beast, the smile on his face as goofy as an idiot.

The Megakaryocyte Special Operations Group captain, who was as cold as an iceberg in front of outsiders, had completely disappeared at this moment.

In his place was an ordinary man about to win over his beautiful beloved, so happy he was practically bubbling over.
