Chapter 114: Conferring the Mountain God, "Manjusri Wisdom Mantra"
Deep mountains, dense forests, waterfalls and streams.
As dusk approached, dim light fell and a thick white fog rose over the entire dense forest.
Someone came through the white fog, carrying a bamboo basket on his back and holding a bamboo stick in his right hand.
After seeing the big rock in front of him, the man stopped, took off the bamboo basket on his back, pulled open the gray-brown tarpaulin that protected it from water mist, took out the things inside, and placed them one by one on the big rock.
Some fruits, vegetables, a lot of rice balls, and two small rattles.
After putting the things away, the visitor waited patiently for a while. The white fog in front gradually dissipated, and two agile figures with naked upper bodies came out of the fog.
Their faces were somewhat similar to the newcomers, but they had only one eye and were exceptionally strong and powerful.
"I will abide by the agreement and only go into the mountains once every two weeks."
The two mountain boys showed kindness and friendliness in their eyes, but they chose not to contact the visitor.
They sat in front of the man, and under his loving gaze, each ate a few rice balls and then held the rest of the things on the stone in their hands.
He nodded to the person who came, then turned around and disappeared into the white fog.
The visitor was not discouraged. He just smiled, picked up the bamboo basket again, and then returned in the direction he came from.
As he left, the white fog around him gradually dissipated, revealing a clear road leading out of the mountain.
As we got closer to the outside of the mountain, we saw a figure leaning against a big tree, gazing at the sunset, seemingly pondering some philosophy of life.
"Shangchuan, since you also want to see them, why don't you come with me into the mountains?"
"Haha, I came here just in case you get lost in the mountains by yourself. If you can't get out, I can call someone to call the police for you."
Beicun just smiled and didn't mention it again. "I haven't seen them for only half a month, and they have grown a lot taller. They are half a head taller than me, and their bodies are also exceptionally strong and sturdy. Maybe I can beat a tiger away with my bare hands."
"I don't care about that!"
Shangchuan sneered, left the big tree and walked out of the mountain.
Beicun followed behind slowly, carrying a bamboo basket on his back, and leisurely described his experiences on this trip into the mountains.
The heaven and earth are spiritual, and humans are the most intelligent creatures in the world, so how can we be less human than them?
……
The water flows through the smooth stones.
Two mountain boys came over from the other side of the cliff, one holding a vine in one hand, and the other hand was crossed across the chest, with fruits, vegetables, rice balls, and a small rattle in the other hand.
Lying on the jade stone, the very old mountain boy tried hard to open his one eye and looked at the three mountain boys who were almost the same height, with satisfaction in his eyes.
They are of the mountain child lineage and are unable to give birth to children on their own. This time, they are loved by the spirits of the mountains and the birth of twins is already a great joy.
The only drawback is that the monk has not arrived yet.
I don't know whether it can witness with its own eyes its descendants being canonized as orthodox mountain gods, and from then on ruling over the mountains and forests and living freely and at ease.
"Ying ying."
The older boy brought a rice ball and motioned for the older boy to enjoy it.
"I'm old, and I can't eat much anymore."
The old mountain boy shook his head. He was so old that he hardly even had the strength to stand up.
The older mountain boy simply broke off a piece of rice ball and gently handed it to the old mountain boy's mouth to feed it.
The old mountain boy did not refuse this filial piety. He slowly opened his mouth and swallowed in small sips.
Two slightly smaller mountain boys had finished their rice balls and were sitting on the rocks beside the waterfall, each holding a rattle, and rocking gently.
It makes sounds like "bang, bang, bang" and "dong, dong, dong", sometimes cheerful and sometimes low.
The sun set completely and a bright moon rose from the other side of the mountain.
After the young mountain boy fed the old mountain boy, he and the old mountain boy looked at the two little mountain boys playing under the waterfall.
"Mr. Frog, Mr. Frog, faster."
"You are always so slow. You were almost caught up by that damn tiger before."
"If you can defeat that big tiger, we won't have to come here to ask Grandpa Shantong for help."
Deep in the mountains, the bushes moved slightly, and a dark green magic frog jumped out, jumped over the cliff, and landed in front of the waterfall.
"It's a little mountain rabbit."
The old mountain boy forced himself to open his one eye and looked at the mountain rabbit hiding on top of the magic frog, his face full of kindness.
Everything in the world has its own spirit, and the mountain rabbit can also cultivate itself into a demon.
"Grandpa Shantong, you have aged a lot. The last time I saw you, you could still walk with a cane." The mountain rabbit poked its head out from the magic frog's head.
But when she saw three mountain boys around her, with three one-eyed eyes looking at her at the same time, she was so scared that she buried her head again.
"Don't be afraid. They are all children that I raised. They are gentle and will never hurt you." The old mountain boy explained.
"Mr. Frog, let's move a little closer."
The mountain rabbit muttered quietly, letting the magic frog land near the old mountain boy before poking its head out again.
"What trouble have you gotten yourself into this time?"
"Not at all."
The mountain rabbit puffed up its cheeks, waved its hands, and tried to defend itself: "It was the big tiger who came to cause trouble first. I didn't offend it, but it occupied my territory. How abominable!"
"Tiger Vanguard, why would it go to your territory for no reason?"
"It's all because of that... scary guy."
Yamausagi thought of the scary monk who made him shudder with fear, and for a moment he didn't know how to describe him specifically.
"That guy didn't sleep at night and came to my territory and roared for a long time, like a lion in the forest."
"As you know, lions and tigers are naturally hostile to each other. That nasty big tiger sneaked into my territory to observe the situation."
"After that guy left, it wanted to take over my territory... and chased me all the way here."
The mountain rabbit became more and more annoyed as he spoke, and he pulled out the weeds on the magic frog's head with his hands.
"Ugh."
The old mountain boy sighed and said, "You are obviously extremely talented, born precocious, and can speak human language, but you are always unwilling to work hard to cultivate. If you could have cultivated well in the early years, Tiger Vanguard would not be able to defeat you."
"..."
Yamausagi said nothing and silently buried his head again.
Cultivation is so boring. It's not as interesting as wandering around in the mountains and forests every day.
"Ah, Grandpa Shantong, I brought a friend with me. She was also frightened by the big tiger, so she ran out with me."
"What friend?"
"Xiao Qing."
Shantu answered naturally, but soon she found something wrong. The questioning voice was not the voice of Shantong Grandpa at all, but the voice of that scary guy!
The mountain rabbit trembled and raised its little head to look around, only to see a burly figure in the depths of the dense forest, holding a staff in one hand and a bowl in the other, walking out through the obstruction of the trees.
Even though the man was wearing a conical hat, a monk's robe, and straw sandals on his bare feet, she could still discern his aura.
Even scarier than the last time we met!
He killed a lot of monsters again!
When the mountain rabbit saw him looking at it, it quickly hid its head and retracted its ears, hiding itself tightly.
"So the eminent monk is the distinguished guest that the little mountain rabbit mentioned."
The old mountain boy's eyes brightened and his whole body took on new vitality.
The monk it had been waiting for finally arrived!
What kind of distinguished guest? He is clearly an evil star!
Mountain Rabbit complained silently in her heart, and seeing Xiaoqing, who was hiding behind her, tremble slightly, she hurried to calm its fear.
After all, he was just a monk that even she found scary. Xiaoqing’s cultivation was still low, so she would definitely be even more scared.
"The monk has come as promised. The day of the conferment should be tonight, right?"
The old mountain boy asked two younger mountain boys to lift up his body which was about to decay and decay.
This time the monk came with a staff in his hand, indicating that its life was about to come to an end.
"Well, let's get started."
Pinggong Qianye did not waste time chatting, but asked the mountain boy who was ready to receive the imperial decree to kneel on the ground and accept the decree.
Once the mountain spirits and monsters choose to accept the imperial decree, the first thing they do is to kneel on the ground, symbolizing their submission to the gods.
The Shinto imperial decree is essentially still dominated by Shintoism, which occupies a slightly higher position.
This has always been the attitude of human beings towards all things: they can allow and respect their existence, but their status must be below that of human beings.
The young and honest mountain boy, at the signal and expectation of the old mountain boy, slowly walked to Pinggong Qianye and knelt on the ground with his hands spread out to show his submission.
In fact, this scene is somewhat similar to the monks' shaving and ordination ceremony.
Namo Great Compassionate Vairocana Buddha. "
Pinggong Qianye chanted the Buddha's name seriously, and a statue of Vairocana Tathagata slowly appeared behind him.
Vairocana Tathagata appears in the form of a Bodhisattva, his body is white, he wears a five-wisdom crown, makes the wisdom fist seal, and sits cross-legged on a throne of seven lions. This is the wisdom Dharmakaya.
Heimiya Chiye deliberately chose the wisdom body of Vairocana Tathagata instead of the principle body of Vairocana.
With Vairocana as a witness, Heimiya Chiye began to recite a long Shinto ritual text that he had learned from Jingu Yaezakura.
The general meaning is: with this deity as the supreme being and this deity as the witness, those who are granted the title should abide by certain precepts and regulations, what they should not violate, what they should not do, what they should do, and what they should do.
Different Shinto sects have different requirements for this part.
The precepts required by Pinggong Qianye are very simple, the Five Precepts of Buddhism.
That is: do not kill, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not lie, and do not drink alcohol.
For Shan Tong, Ping Gong Qianye believes that these five commandments are sufficient and there is no need to use the ten commandments.
Moreover, how many Buddhist disciples today can abide by these precepts?
Many times, these precepts exist more in the conversations of Buddhist disciples than in their actual practice.
It is strange to ask a mountain boy to be perfect.
In fact, as long as they don't commit any major problems, Hiramiya Chiye is very tolerant of Yamado.
As Heimiya Chiye finished reading this passage from the Shinto imperial edict, the young mountain boy, who could not speak human language yet and could only whimper in the mountain boy language, was unable to communicate, so he kowtowed heavily to the ground three times.
"Today, with the Great Sun Tathagata as a witness, I appoint you as the mountain god of this forest. I hope you can always uphold good thoughts and deeds, and from now on, protect the peace and prosperity of this land, forever preserve the forest, and protect all spirits."
Pinggong Qianye threw the Dharma bowl in his hand and hung it above the mountain boy's head. He drew some of the power of Vairocana Tathagata and merged it into the mountain boy's body.
This forms a connection between the two, which is equivalent to concluding a contract.
In fact, the procedure he used to confer the title of God on the gods was a very simple one.
To ordain a deity in Shintoism, one needs to build an altar and have a corresponding number of believers nearby to pray devoutly to the deity.
The higher the priesthood you want to confer upon a deity, the more believers you will need.
Because of the order in which orthodox Shintoism confer gods, generally this spirit has already gained a good reputation in the local area and has many believers willing to worship it devoutly.
Only then did Shintoism take notice of it and give it an orthodox status.
Later, in order to save trouble and for selfish reasons, some Shinto sects first found a suitable spirit, cultivated a certain number of believers for it, and then held the enthronement ceremony.
In this case, it doesn't matter whether it is a good reputation or a bad reputation, as long as the corresponding procedures of the conferring ceremony are followed.
Pinggong Chiye had no right to comment on others. After all, his enthronement ceremony was different from the orthodox Shinto enthronement ceremony.
But he is not a Shinto practitioner, so he doesn't need to be too particular about Shintoism.
"Om Ah La Prajna De."
Pinggong recites the "Manjushri Wisdom Mantra" for thousands of nights, also known as the "Manjushri Bodhisattva Heart Mantra".
The reason for choosing the "Manjushri Wisdom Mantra" is to enlighten the wisdom of this mountain boy.
It seems to be sincere enough, but lacks wisdom.
Even the little mountain rabbit can babble a lot of words, but it can't even speak human language, which shows its obvious lack of intelligence.
This is related to race. When a mountain boy is young, he grows one day at a time. His wisdom cannot keep up with the changes in his body, and he grows so slowly that he looks a little dull and stupid.
When Pinggong Qianye recited the "Manjushri Wisdom Mantra" three times, some kind of contract was vaguely formed between heaven and earth.
Pinggong Qianye looked at the sky, the earth, the mountains, the grass, the wind and the forest, then slowly retracted his Dharma bowl. The wisdom body of Vairocana Tathagata behind him gradually dissipated.
"Phew, this scared the King of the Mountain to death."
The mountain rabbit hiding on the magic frog's head quietly popped its head out, patted its chest with its hands, and breathed a sigh of relief.
When the Vairocana Buddha appeared just now, she could clearly feel that her soul and blood were about to freeze.
In the vast bright world where He is, there is nowhere to escape.
This is still the effect that the Vairocana Tathagata did not specifically target himself.
Maybe He really only needs to glare at Him to make everything go away.
This monk is so scary!
Definitely stay away!
"Xiao Qing, you must remember in the future that you must never provoke monks! Especially him!"
Yamausagi looked down at the small green snake that had wrapped around his waist at some point, and issued a solemn warning.
"why?"
"what!"
The mountain rabbit was so frightened that he almost jumped up, "Xiaoqing, when did you learn to speak human language?"
“Just now.”
Wrapped around the mountain rabbit's waist, a slender green snake tilted its head back, blinked its watery eyes, and stuck out its tongue.
