Chapter 112: Star Chasing Journey (32)
The brush, full of ink, gently tapped the paper, leaving a full ink dot in the center of the paper.
“This is an apple,” Professor Tang said. “Don’t find it unbelievable; in a one-dimensional world, this is how it is.”
Then, Professor Tang swished her brush a few times, drawing a crooked circle next to the dot, with a stroke on top.
“It’s an apple, this is an apple!”
“Hmm… I can tell.”
“My second aunt’s niece draws better than this.”
“Ahem, anyway, this is a two-dimensional apple.” Professor Tang’s face visibly reddened.
Then, she waved her hand, and a bright red, round apple appeared in her hand.
She placed the apple next to the “apple” she had drawn: “Now, let’s put this apple into a three-dimensional world. Here, it not only has length and width, but also height and volume. We can see its overall shape, touch its surface, and even feel its weight.”
“This is the three-dimensional world you exist in.”
“It is also the dimension I once lived in.”
Professor Tang gazed deeply at the three-dimensional apple, as if reminiscing about something through it.
“As for a four-dimensional apple, I have no way to truly show it to you; it’s already beyond the scope of what you can directly observe.”
“I can only say that for four dimensions, time is also a movable dimension.”
Professor Tang said, casually fiddling with the apple on the table.
With a poke and a point, the apple’s form changed, slowly twisting into an extremely Chaos existence.
From Liu Sheng’s perspective, this existence was both real and illusory.
She could see the pulp and core inside, and also the smooth, bright red skin.
Moreover, this existence, if it could still be called an “apple,” was sometimes as fresh as if it had just been picked from a tree, still with dew, and sometimes rotted into a black and green blob, with countless maggots crawling in and out.
Liu Sheng intuitively realized that this was indeed an existence she could not comprehend at her current state.
“So, these,” Liu Sheng pointed to the endless grids outside the pavilion, “are seen as a unified ‘box’ in your world? Just like you see me, all of me are me.”
Liu Sheng tried to understand.
“Yes, for you, every choice from childhood to adulthood splits into a different world.” Professor Tang nodded with satisfaction, as if seeing a good student.
“For example, whether you kicked the marble on the floor after getting up, whether you chose vegetables or meat for the first bite of dinner, whether you listened carefully to the first class in the academy, or even whether you chose to work hard outside or return to your hometown for a peaceful life after growing up, all will ultimately lead to different lives.”
“For you, perhaps you are unique, and your experiences define your existence.”
“But for me, in a high dimension, all of you are just you.”
“However, only those who can touch the edge of the high dimension can realize this; most people in the three-dimensional world cannot discover it in their entire lives.”
“Perhaps you haven’t fully understood yet, but you have indeed touched the edge of the high dimension for some reason, and perhaps you yourself are a 3.5-dimensional particle, which is why you can move between the boxes, even when you are unaware of it.”
“And because of this, you subconsciously gave your friend, named ‘Wen Weilan,’ right? Such an ability, and even guided her Awakening; once she realizes that all of herself are herself, in her, the so-called multiple worlds will also contract into one, and she can simultaneously experience everything that happens to all of herself.”
“Of course, this is also because the environment I created is very special; once she leaves here, she won’t be able to…”
Liu Sheng interjected: “Is it because you created a four-dimensional ‘rotten apple’ world, right?”
Professor Tang was surprised, then smiled and repeated: “You are indeed very smart.”
“You developed believers and attracted weird objects to invade; once a weird object invades, it’s like an apple bitten by a worm, leaving holes through which one can pass.” Liu Sheng said with certainty.
“When this four-dimensional ‘apple’ unfolds in the three-dimensional world, it will become countless ‘apples’ based on successive choices, so I can pass through those ‘worm-eaten’ passages to travel between different boxes or ‘apples,’ because they are originally the same apple.”
“Okay, now let’s go back to the concept of boxes, so it’s easier to understand this matter from the ‘Schrödinger’s Cat’ hypothesis.”
“As you open the box for observation in the four-dimensional world each time, this box will further unfold due to what is called quantum decoherence, thus more worlds will appear in your observation.”
Liu Sheng spoke more and more smoothly, and many thoughts that were tangled like a mess were straightened out by her little by little.
“But do multiple worlds really exist? Maybe it’s just an illusion in the Weird Domain.”
“The ‘us’ now, our experiences each have subtle differences; whether it’s a memory disorder or if multiple worlds truly exist is unknown.”
“Perhaps, but here with Professor Tang, this is what she believes, so it has become the rule of this realm. It can be said that at this moment, multiple worlds exist.”
But these concepts were still too transcendent for Liu Sheng, so all of her was still in a state of half-belief, half-doubt, and self-contradiction.
Regarding Liu Sheng’s words, Professor Tang smiled noncommittally, neither admitting nor denying.
“You don’t need to think too clearly, otherwise you’ll go crazy.” She only gave this one reminder.
“But I’m very curious, why do you want to do this?” Liu Sheng looked up, staring directly into Professor Tang’s eyes, and asked, “Or rather, is this your nature as a weird objects, destruction and torment?”
Professor Tang was not angry or annoyed by Liu Sheng’s words, perhaps she had long accepted the fact that she had become a weird objects.
“Aren’t you so smart?” Professor Tang smiled faintly, “Why don’t you guess?”
Liu Sheng was somewhat accustomed to this kind of reverse guessing game, thought for a moment, and said: “How about we start by guessing how you became like this?”
Professor Tang’s eyes immediately lit up with interest, and she made a “please” gesture.
“Back then, your theories were not recognized in academia, and you were very unwilling, so you turned to seeking recognition among the populace.”
“Hmm, you already knew that from the Science Museum .” Professor Tang said.
“Yes, and then you used Universe Exploration Travel Agency to specifically attract those who are weak-minded, dissatisfied with their current lives, and crave to be different. They are already very easily swayed, and coupled with the layers of psychological suggestion and gentle persuasion you arranged throughout the journey, and even the inclusion of plots where you impersonated the Federal Government to harm the innocent, making them further disappointed with the outside world, you ultimately absorbed them into Cosmic Village to be used as sacrifices to summon weird objects.”
“No one else has seen the so-called ‘aliens’ except you, precisely because everyone who has seen them has either died or been assimilated.”
Liu Sheng said in one breath, her expression firm.
It’s all at the level of folk science; in a weird world, anything is possible!
Regarding the Multiverse (excerpt from Wikipedia):
In 1957, the initial relative state formulation was published by American quantum physicist Hugh Everett III. Later, in the 1960s and 1970s, this theory began to gain popularity and was renamed the Many-Worlds Interpretation by Bryce DeWitt. In the Many-Worlds Interpretation, the subjective phenomenon of wave function collapse can be explained by the quantum decoherence mechanism. Since the 1970s, the decoherence approach has been further explored and developed in explaining quantum theory, thus becoming quite popular. The Many-Worlds Interpretation is one of many parallel Universe hypotheses in physics and philosophy. In addition to the Many-Worlds Interpretation, current mainstream interpretations of quantum mechanics also include other decoherence interpretations, collapse interpretations (further divided into objective collapse theories and the traditional Copenhagen interpretation), hidden variable theories (mainly non-local hidden variable theories such as the de Broglie-Bohm theory), and so on. This interpretation aims to explain the measurement problem, thereby resolving certain paradoxes in quantum theory, such as the EPR paradox and Schrödinger’s Cat paradox.
