Chapter 235: Incurable (II)
The god's face looked down upon the human world.
Its slightly closed eyes seemed to gaze at the figure galloping across the prairie, and its lips curved slightly for the small figure on horseback, filled with joy and rushing towards freedom.
Another gaze, cold and malevolent, also focused on this figure.
Ariel was going to his Clan Chief, to find the old Clan Chief, to have these hateful outsiders arrested and to seek justice for him!
Especially the murderer who killed his grandfather.
As soon as he thought of this, tears welled up in his eyes.
It must be because they killed his beloved grandfather that the most terrifying scarlet disease appeared in the clan; this was the Supreme God’s protection over him, their punishment!
Yes, he also had to go to the temple and tell the old witch about the reappearance of the scarlet disease, so that the old witch could use her methods to purify them, otherwise it would infect his clan members.
Thinking this, Ariel softly urged his pony: “Zauhar, hurry! These evil people will soon discover us!”
“No one will discover us.” A clear female voice rang out.
“What?” Ariel pulled the reins in fright, and the galloping hooves stopped.
He nervously looked around; the prairie was empty.
Just one person, one horse.
“Zauhar… are you talking?” Ariel touched the smooth, shiny mane on the pony’s neck with some excitement and asked loudly.
He had just been talking to his pony, so this should be the pony’s response!
Was his pony finally going to become a spirit?
However, his childlike words elicited a chuckle.
“How can you be so silly, making friends with your own horse?” The voice said, “Since you like your friend so much, I’ll leave you an eternal gift.”
The pony whinnied uneasily, but the whinny abruptly stopped.
Ariel watched in disbelief as the mane he was caressing gradually withered, and the snow-white, firm fur gradually shriveled and tightened, turning black and emitting a strange stench.
This scene was too bizarre and terrifying; Ariel was so frightened that his hand slipped, and he tumbled from the horse’s back onto the prairie.
The pain of his back hitting the ground made Ariel grimace, his eyes instantly welling up with tears.
But when he opened his eyes, a pair of round, luminous eyes, like fragments of stars, were looking down at him, filled with reluctance, attachment, and fear.
They were a horse’s eyes.
They were the eyes of his beloved pony—Zauhar!
Ariel’s heart leaped, unable to believe what he was seeing, and tears blurred his vision.
Aside from these eyes, which still retained their vibrant vitality, rolling around in their deeply sunken, shriveled sockets, its body was already much like the desiccated carcasses Ariel had seen on the prairie and desert, those that had died in the wilderness and been gradually wind-dried.
A thin layer of dark skin was tightly stretched over its bones; every bone and joint was clearly visible, leaving only a gaunt outline. From the ground, one could clearly see the protruding ribs on the pony’s chest, and something seemed to be pulsating beneath the skin and flesh.
The pony’s entire body emitted the putrid stench of death, making Ariel almost vomit.
“Who… who is it?!” Ariel struggled to get up, his voice trembling as he asked.
For a moment, silence descended, with only the wind whispering in his ears.
“Can’t you see me?” The clear female voice was full of confusion.
Ariel stammered for a long time before saying, “I… I…”
The pony looked at him, its eyes rolling, full of confusion.
Ariel also looked at the pony at the same time, and suddenly felt that something was wrong.
This gaze was not at all as simple as his pony’s.
“Then I’ll let you see me!”
As the words fell, the pony’s eyes were filled with excitement, as if old friends were reuniting.
Then, the thin skin and flesh on the pony’s back suddenly bulged high.
Ariel looked at this disgusting sight of something squirming under the skin, backing away a few steps, fear almost consuming all his thoughts.
Then the bulge became increasingly transparent, finally bursting open with a soft sound, and a strange head emerged from the opening, taking a deep breath of fresh air and nodding contentedly.
“Oh, I was really suffocated.”
Ariel stared in horror at this strangely flat-faced head, his legs trembling, unable to move.
“How about it? Didn’t you really hope your pony could talk, could become a spirit?” The head looked smug, seemingly very pleased with what it had done, “Here, I’ve made it happen for you now. Do you like it?”
“What… what exactly are you?” Ariel asked in despair.
He had originally wanted to ask “who,” but in his unformed worldview, he also felt that this should not be a human.
Recalling the various legends of the prairie, he was very afraid, but he was tightly fixed by the head’s gaze, and his feet felt as if they were filled with lead, completely unable to move.
“Me? I’m your friend, everyone’s friend! I like to surprise my friends, hehe, that’s what a good friend should do!”
“Do you like it?”
The last sentence was squeezed out word by word from the knife-cut mouth on the head, its eyes filled with cold malice.
Ariel was engulfed by this malice, his whole body feeling as if he had fallen into an ice cave.
He couldn’t think anymore.
A sentence was about to spill out without thought.
Just as he was about to open his mouth, a gentle hand lightly covered his mouth.
Then, a sharp sword light cut through the darkness, and the head on the horse rolled to the ground, rolling all the way to Ariel’s feet, those nauseating eyes looking up at him.
Ariel’s heart trembled, and he kicked it away, not knowing where it landed in the prairie.
“When you encounter something like this, don’t talk to it casually.” A clear, cold female voice rang in Ariel’s ear.
Ariel turned his head and was surprised to find that it was that beautiful woman!
Among those evil people, her name seemed to be “Wen Weilan.”
Although Ariel didn’t recognize the characters, he still carefully remembered her name.
He knew he should harbor hatred for her.
But she had always been very gentle with him, even though her face was cold.
But whenever there was something good to eat, she would share a portion with him, and when someone bullied him, she would stand up and stop them.
Especially when he was called “dog cub,” “Northern dog,” “barbarian,” and such, she would always scold them.
So, when he thought that his accusation and report might cost her her life, he still felt a bit unwilling, but family vengeance and national hatred were intertwined, and he had no other choice.
Ariel stared blankly up at Wen Weilan; the lines on her face were so soft under the starlight and divine radiance, and her eyes shimmered with a tiny him, a him full of shame.
Suddenly, Ariel saw Wen Weilan’s gaze abruptly shift from gentle to sharp, locking onto Ariel’s abdomen.
Was something wrong?
Ariel was full of confusion, about to look down.
“Don’t look, I’ll take you back to see the OP .” Wen Weilan said, a flash of worry and fear in her eyes.
But Ariel didn’t obey; he wanted to know what had happened to him.
He didn’t want to be a coward whom everyone looked down upon, and even less did he want the beautiful older sister to think he was a coward.
So, he slowly lowered his head to look.
His clothes were torn, and a familiar head emerged from the tear.
The head looked up at Ariel, grinning, about to speak.
But then a black gleam flashed before his eyes—it was Ariel, holding the star fragment, fiercely stabbing himself in the stomach!
