Chapter 85: A resounding victory

Liu Jin headed towards Guan Yu, his voice reaching him before he did!

"Yun Chang, Yun Chang!"

Guan Yu, who was resting nearby, heard his elder brother's voice and quickly stood up, a smile on his face, and greeted him!

"Elder Brother!"

Liu Jin, surrounded by his personal guards, ran to the spot. When he saw Guan Yu covered in blood, his brow furrowed, and a look of panic appeared on his face.

He quickly ran over, completely disregarding the bloody sight, and held Guan Yu's hands, asking softly!

"Yun Chang, are you alright?"

Guan Yu smiled and shook his head, saying loudly!

"Elder Brother, there's no need to worry."

Hearing this, Liu Jin felt a little relieved, but still urgently instructed the personal guards behind him!

"Immediately send a doctor to treat him, check my second brother thoroughly, there must be no problems."

The personal guards, hearing this, dared not delay and quickly went to fetch a doctor.

Guan Yu, hearing this, couldn't help but say with a wry smile!

"Elder Brother, there's no need for such trouble, I really wasn't injured."

Liu Jin pulled Guan Yu to sit beside him and said with a smile!

"Ah, second brother, don't mind your elder brother being troublesome. In military combat, a slight oversight can lead to injuries, and if not treated in time, it can threaten one's life."

"Since your elder brother has said he will lead you all to prominence and enjoy wealth and honor, he naturally won't abandon anyone."

Guan Yu, hearing this, nodded solemnly, his heart filled with warmth.

This was their good elder brother, who always thought of his brothers in everything.

Soon, the personal guards brought the doctor, who began to clean Guan Yu's wounds and check for any injuries on his body.

Even the fierce Guan Yu had some injuries on his body; though not fatal, they still carried some risk, so herbs were applied, the wounds disinfected, and bandaged.

After all this was done, Liu Jin completely relaxed.

His gaze swept towards the corpse on the ground, its face gaunt, with an eight-character mustache, and its yellow Daoist robe was stained crimson.

Especially since the corpse was starting to turn pale, it was clear that the wound on its neck had drained all the blood.

Even as a corpse, Liu Jin's eyes still burned intensely.

One of the leaders of the Yellow Turban, if this person had died in Lu Zhi's hands, then, without a doubt, being enfeoffed as a marquis and appointed as a general would be just around the corner.

Now that he had died in the hands of him, a Biebu Sima, the prospect of being enfeoffed as a marquis was out of the question for himself. At the very least, one had to reach the two-thousand-dan rank to possibly be enfeoffed as a marquis by the imperial court.

However, Liu Jin was not discouraged; the great war between the imperial court and the Yellow Turban Army had only just begun.

And only one Zhang Liang had died; there were still the heads of Zhang Jiao and Zhang Bao. As long as these two were taken, his own enfeoffment as a marquis would be just around the corner.

Soon, Zhang Fei, Han Dang, Wei You, and other Generals also arrived one after another, all with excited expressions.

Because this battle was fought exceptionally well; it could be said that all thirty thousand Yellow Turban were annihilated.

Liu Jin watched as the sky gradually darkened, and after some thought, he instructed the Generals!

"Issue orders to clean the battlefield, bury the corpses on the spot, detain all captives, and set up camp a few miles away."

"Tomorrow morning, we will attack the nearby Baixiang County, and then rest again."

The Generals, hearing this, bowed and accepted the order, immediately going to deal with the matter.

Large numbers of captives were being rounded up by the Han Army.

Although there were many people, this group of captives dared not resist. After all, tens of thousands had been routed and fled in disarray; now that they had laid down their weapons and surrendered, resisting would only be seeking death.

Soon, the sky completely darkened. In the military camp set up in the valley, many bonfires had been lit, and many soldiers, after a simple meal, were warming themselves by the fires.

Liu Jin sat by a bonfire, and the other Generals took their seats around him, asking!

"Have the battle results been tallied?"

Han Dang stepped forward and quickly said!

"Reporting to Ming Gong, a preliminary count has been made."

"Our army suffered over four hundred casualties, killed over four thousand, and captured nearly twenty thousand. The remaining Yellow Turban fled in the chaos, and due to too few troops, they were not pursued."

Liu Jin, hearing these results, nodded, finding them consistent with his expectations.

After all, this great battle was overwhelming; the Yellow Turban soldiers had no time to react before they were scattered and fled, which could be considered a one-sided massacre.

He immediately ordered!

"The fallen soldiers shall be properly buried. As for the compensation, it shall be tallied and distributed after the war has completely settled."

The Generals, hearing this, nodded, understanding the situation.

Because the soldiers in the army came from Zhuo Commandery, the journey was quite long, and distributing compensation would be somewhat difficult, so it could only be done after the war ended.

Liu Jin looked at Han Dang and Zhang Fei beside him and instructed!

"Tomorrow morning, you two will lead your respective troops to attack Baixiang County."

Upon receiving the order, both bowed and accepted it!

After the matters were dealt with, Liu Jin looked at the bonfire in front of him and fell into deep thought!

Although the war had now settled and a great victory had been achieved.

But he was considering whether to report this military achievement to Lu Zhi, or to the General's Mansion in his capacity as a Biebu Sima.

There was a significant difference between the two. If reported to Lu Zhi, some of his credit for this battle would be shared with Lu Zhi.

In fact, most of it would be claimed by him, and he would only be subservient to him.

If reported directly to the General's Mansion, the credit for killing Zhang Liang and annihilating these thirty thousand Yellow Turban would largely fall to him.

However, if he chose the latter, he would certainly offend Lu Zhi, challenge his authority, and even be suppressed, or accused of trumped-up charges and executed.

After all, Lu Zhi was a Central Protector-General, the highest-ranking person, and had the authority to execute anyone below the two-thousand-dan rank.

To put it another way, even if he didn't die, it would be difficult for him to establish himself in this army, and even if there were achievements, it probably wouldn't be his turn.

With this precedent, it would be very difficult for him to gain a foothold in the military system; he would certainly be ostracized by the Generals.

No one wanted a ingrate under them who, upon achieving merit, would not report to the commanding general but instead report directly, seeking to usurp the military achievement.

After a moment of silence, Liu Jin still chose to report to Lu Zhi first; he couldn't sacrifice his future in the army for these immediate gains.

Moreover, he still trusted Lu Zhi's character. After all, he was a renowned scholar of the Han Dynasty, and his status and position were evident. Even if he wanted to claim some military merit, he should still leave most of it to himself.

Besides, he couldn't be enfeoffed as a marquis based on this one battle. It was better to be straightforward; it might even earn him Lu Zhi's favor, and any good assignments would fall to him.

Having understood this, Liu Jin felt enlightened and was not blinded by the immediate benefits.
