Chapter 6: 06: Strange things in the old building

“That idiot definitely thought he’d get rid of us after the class assignments, haha, he must not have expected to still be in the same class.”

“We should have charged him a friend fee during spring break too, he’s so clueless.”

“Tsk, I hope this homeroom teacher won’t be too nosy.”

“Oh, right, Inoue-senpai is planning to tonight…”

The leading delinquent glanced at Higashiyama Shin approaching, closed his mouth, and only continued speaking after they had passed each other, “…over at the Old Teaching Building…”

Higashiyama Shin stood behind the group, looking at the backs of the leading delinquent and his companions, his brows slightly furrowed.

He walked into the restroom in thought, only to see the student named Nobi with a bruise on his face, one hand clutching his stomach, kneeling on the ground frantically fumbling around: “Glasses, glasses…”

Through his blurry vision, a hand holding glasses was extended towards him.

“Thank you! Thank you!”

Nobi quickly took them, put them on, and his blurry world finally regained some clarity.

“…Broken.”

Nobi’s face was somewhat pale; after putting them on, he discovered that one lens of his glasses was broken, with several noticeable cracks, and even the temples were loose.

He put on the damaged glasses and slowly stood up, gritting his teeth.

“You are… Dongshan-kun…”

“You know me?”

Dongshan asked casually as he washed the grease from his bento box in the sink.

“At the Electronic Gaming Club, I’ve seen you… but I’ve only been there a few times.”

Higashiyama Shin had a good memory; he was certain he hadn’t seen this person, but then he recalled the Electronic Gaming Club member list he had looked at, which only had one person named Nobi: “Nobi Tomoyoshi?”

“Yes, that’s me.”

Higashiyama Shin nodded, said nothing more, and left after washing his bento box.

If he were the class representative, he would have many ways to stop those delinquents’ behavior, but he didn’t intend to take on that position anymore.

As for mediating such matters, he would see if the next class representative would do it. However, with such a fierce homeroom teacher, it was likely that simply asking him to intimidate them would achieve good results.

“But that person just now, why was the ominous sign on him flickering? Like he was going in and out of the gates of hell.”

Higashiyama Shin didn’t pay too much attention to Nobi; he was still thinking about the leading delinquent he had seen at the restroom entrance.

In Higashiyama Shin’s eyes, he was like a broken incandescent light bulb, flickering and sparkling.

“The Old Teaching Building, huh…”

Without the detailed birth data of the other party, he could only see some simple omens and could not know the origin of the other party’s fortune or misfortune.

But combined with the location the other party just mentioned, it was easy to guess.

By the time afternoon classes began, Higashiyama Shin saw that the ominous sign on the delinquent had completely solidified.

A sign of great misfortune.

This level of ominous sign already involved a threat to life; it all depended on whether one’s fate was strong enough or if there were any effective protective items on them.

Otherwise, death was basically certain, unless some unexpected intervention made him abandon his subsequent self-destructive behavior.

However, this person’s great misfortune was already set; simply making him avoid the ominous sign was useless. Subsequent accumulation in the prize pool, giving him a super double, would only make him die even more miserably.

If he wanted to completely avert the disaster, the Three Nine Secret Lodgings did have a way, but it would require Higashiyama Shin, who performed the spell, to pay a price.

Unfortunately, Higashiyama Shin was not some bleeding heart, let alone that person was a delinquent.

Such people, although most do not deserve death, that is according to the law; for the victims, they would only feel a great sense of satisfaction.

Higashiyama Shin had no intention of warning him, only interested in what he would encounter.

The abandoned Old Teaching Building at Komagome Academy had many “mysterious legends.”

It was rumored that the teaching building was completed in showa 37, and the original school building was destroyed in the famous Tokyo BBQ. Therefore, this building, rebuilt on the original site, had always been associated with numerous supernatural events.

Such as classes still being held amidst a great fire, scorched people waving from windows to those outside, and reading voices heard at night…

These strange tales were passed down from generation to generation among students.

It wasn’t until ten years ago that the Old Teaching Building was completely abandoned and fell into desolation, but discussions about it did not subside much; instead, even more versions emerged.

Many clubs also chose it for courage tests, but no deaths or injuries had ever occurred there, so the school didn’t really manage it.

Higashiyama Shin had been there a few times before and recalled nothing special, except that it was rather chilly.

It was a case of scaring oneself.

But now that he had his spiritual fire eyes, he could go back later to see if there was anything different.

Unconsciously, it was past three in the afternoon.

The after-school bell echoed through the campus, and the teacher stopped the rhythm of the lecture. On the first day of school, clubs had many things to busy themselves with, and many people rushed to their activity venues as soon as classes ended, full of youthful vitality.

“Going to the Archery Club?” Chiba Shion packed her bag.

“Mm.”

“Please bring my bento tomorrow, Dongshan-kun.”

“Alright, stir-fried pork with green peppers, Chiba-san.”

Chiba Shion, who was originally expressionless, upon hearing that term, seemed to have seen some great horror, her eyes slightly wide, and a rare trace of panic appeared on her face.

“…I heard that green peppers in Tokyo have recently tested positive for excessive pesticide residues.” Chiba Shion was serious; she even opened her phone, tapped on her favorites, and pulled up the news article.

Presumably, her mood was joyful when she saw that news.

“Is that so… Then it’s stir-fried pork with bitter gourd instead.”

Chiba Shion’s rosy lips parted, but she ultimately said nothing and left somewhat dejectedly.

Higashiyama Shin put away his playful smile, picked up his bag, and walked towards the Old Teaching Building.

During the day, people occasionally passed by the Old Teaching Building. Perhaps the greenery here was too good; as soon as one walked near it, they would feel a chill.

Even in summer, it was still like this. He hadn’t paid much attention before, but now, re-experiencing it, he wondered if it was because he possessed the spiritual fire eyes, but he found it to be an uncomfortable chill, and it was even more intense than before.

Flames ignited in Higashiyama Shin’s eyes, and the uncomfortable chill was immediately dispelled.

He looked up at the Old Teaching Building and actually saw wisps of black yin energy, as if burning, covering and entwining the entire building. Even with the sun high in the sky, it continuously seeped out in all directions.

“No… This is a formation.”

Higashiyama Shin, relying on the inherited Three Nine Secret Lodgings and spiritual fire eyes, discerned the strangeness here.

“And it’s a… damaged formation that hasn’t been activated in a long time…”

The Three Nine Secret Lodgings involved a little knowledge of formations, but not much, so he could only tell that it was a formation, but he didn’t know what this formation was for or how to destroy it.

Perfect, wasn’t someone going to scout it out for him tonight?

With a turn of his palm, a small paper figure the size of his palm appeared in his hand.

He took out a needle, pricked his fingertip, and dotted blood eyes onto the paper figure’s face.

“Go.”

With a flick of the paper figure, it swiftly darted into the crown of a nearby locust tree and disappeared from sight.

Higashiyama Shin did not linger, turned a corner, and walked towards the Archery Club’s location.
