Chapter 10: Chapter 10: A Night of Spring

The three of them finished the welcoming banquet.

The sky gradually darkened.

The dishes were naturally cleaned by the two sisters.

Li Yuan carefully inspected his new home.

The two sisters lived in two mud houses.

These houses were not tall, only about three meters high.

The roofs were thatched.

The walls of the houses were also ordinary mud walls.

The doors and windows were just a few wooden boards.

The living conditions here, compared to later generations, could only be described as rudimentary.

Entering the main house, there was a simple wooden bed against the wall.

There were no quilts or bedding.

The bed was only covered with a thick straw mat.

In the eastern corner was a stove, and on a wooden shelf were some coarse pottery bowls.

Inside the stove was a rice jar, which was now filled with the millet Li Yuan had brought.

The only remaining furnishings in the house were two simple wooden chests; there was nothing else.

The other room was slightly smaller than the main house, but its layout was similar.

Inside the room, there was a crudely made spinning wheel and some farming tools piled up.

Li Yuan sighed inwardly after seeing it.

The sisters' lives could only be described as impoverished.

However, although the house was very crude, it was kept very clean by the two sisters.

It could be seen that the two sisters were very diligent people.

Li Yuan nodded, very satisfied.

By this time, the sky was completely dark.

Oil lamps were lit in the house.

In this era, there was no nightlife after dark.

One could only turn off the lights and sleep.

Li Yuan entered the house and saw the two sisters sitting nervously on the bed, heads bowed, tugging at the corners of their clothes, both blushing.

They were different from the widowed women in the Village who had been married; both of them were still virgins.

Although they were nominally Li Yuan's wives, being in the same room with a man they had only known for a day still made them very shy, even a little flustered.

Li Yuan smiled and said to them, "Come here, look what this is."

With that, Li Yuan took out two bolts of cloth he had bought in the county town from a basket on one side of his carrying pole.

Upon seeing the new cloth, both women's faces showed surprise.

Their family was poor, and they hadn't acquired new clothes in a long time.

Although the clothes they wore were very clean, they had faded from repeated washing.

The two of them saw that the cloth was woven very finely and tightly, knowing it was good quality material.

Naturally, they liked it.

Seeing the two sisters happy, Li Yuan said, "Use this cloth to make two new outfits for you sisters."

"My wife should look presentable when she goes out."

"If you dress well, your husband will have face."

"Yes, Husband."

The two sisters' faces were flushed with shyness, but their hearts felt as sweet as honey.

The night grew deeper.

Faint moans and cries of women could be heard from the Village.

Li Yuan shook his head and smiled bitterly.

Needless to say, these were the Soldier Family members who had just acquired concubine-wives, currently engaged in a fierce battle throughout the night.

And judging by the sounds, the battle seemed quite intense.

The two sisters, of course, knew what those sounds were.

They felt their faces flush and their ears burn.

However, what was coming would eventually arrive.

Since they had become someone's wife, fulfilling their wifely duties was only proper.

Xiao Zhu, the younger sister, actively tidied the wooden bed.

She fluffed up the straw on the bed to make it softer.

Blushing, she said to her older sister, "Sister and Husband should sleep in the main house."

"Tonight, I will go to the west room."

Li Yuan knew that Xiao Zhu was feeling embarrassed.

According to the rule that a Soldier Family's able-bodied male could have one wife and one maidservant, Chu Wanjun, the older sister, was considered Li Yuan's official wife, while Chu Xiao Zhu, the younger sister, was considered a maidservant.

Now that Li Yuan was considered the head of the household, the older sister was the official wife.

On this first night of entering the household, the main house was naturally to be given to the head of the household and the official wife for the night.

Xiao Zhu's initiative to go to the west room was also reasonable.

Li Yuan did not insist on both sisters serving him on this first night.

After all, this was the feudal Great Liang Dynasty.

It was best to let everything take its natural course.

After helping Xiao Zhu spread a straw mat on the floor in the west room, the two sisters exchanged a few intimate words.

Chu Wanjun, the older sister, then blushed and followed Li Yuan back to the main house.

The oil lamp was extinguished.

Li Yuan heard Chu Wanjun say in a soft, delicate voice, "Your humble servant will help Husband undress."

That night was naturally filled with endless charm.

Li Yuan, having tasted the forbidden fruit for the first time, naturally savored the experience.

It wasn't until the second watch that they finally fell into a deep sleep.

Li Yuan then checked his system and found that it had changed.

"【Virtuous Wife System Activated】"

"Congratulations to the host for acquiring wife 【Chu Wanjun】"

"Martial Power increased from 55 to 78, from 【Fierce Soldier】 to 【Tiger Ben】"

"Strategy increased from 50 to 72, from 【Minor Intellect】 to 【Keen Mind】"

"Luck increased from 53 to 62, from 【Ordinary】 to 【Slight Luck】"

Li Yuan didn't quite understand these numbers and rank titles yet.

But it didn't matter.

He just knew that the higher the value and the higher the rank, the stronger he would be.

Thinking of this, he embraced the delicate Chu Wanjun again and fell into a sweet sleep.

He didn't know how much time had passed.

Li Yuan was sleeping hazily when he suddenly heard some movement in the courtyard.

As someone who had practiced martial arts for many years, he was very alert at night.

Li Yuan quickly sat up, quietly put on his outer garment, and then fumbled for a wooden stick nearby, holding it in his hand, before gently pushing the door open and stepping into the courtyard.

Looking around, he saw a dark figure about to climb over the wall.

Li Yuan's anger surged instantly.

Entering his courtyard in the middle of the night meant it was either a thief or a robber.

Li Yuan let out a loud shout and struck with the stick.

The person screamed and tumbled down from the wattle fence.

With a thud, a small bag fell to the ground.

Li Yuan was quick-witted.

He reached out and grabbed the bag.

Feeling its weight, he heard the clinking of metal inside.

He knew it contained copper coins.

When the person saw that Li Yuan had taken the item, in a moment of desperation, he rushed over to snatch it back.

However, Li Yuan swung the wooden stick, causing him to scream in pain.

Frightened, he jumped up and rushed out of the courtyard.

As soon as he exited the courtyard gate, several people with lanterns were approaching from the dirt road not far away.

These were the Village's night watchmen, who had heard the fighting and hurried over to investigate.

At this moment, Li Yuan also walked out of the courtyard.

Looking up, he saw Centurion Xue Dacheng, leading several strong men from the Village on patrol.

The Baizhang saw someone fighting in the middle of the night and asked the two, "What's going on here? Why are you fighting!"

The person being chased by Li Yuan, upon seeing the Baizhang and the patrolling strong men, immediately played the victim.

Pointing at Li Yuan, he shouted, "Baizhang, this man robbed my money bag! Quickly arrest him!"

The Baizhang was stunned and looked at Li Yuan, asking, "Li Yuan, what exactly happened?"

Li Yuan snorted coldly, cupped his hands to the Baizhang, and said, "This person climbed over my wall in the middle of the night."

"Baizhang, he came to steal from my house!"

Upon hearing this, the man immediately wailed on the ground, "Baizhang, don't listen to him."

"I was clearly just passing by here, and he jumped out and robbed me."

"He stole the money bag from me."

"Baizhang, you must uphold justice for me!"

Soldier Family Baizhang Xue Dacheng frowned.

The person on the ground was named Xu Sanmazi.

He was a notorious lazy fellow in East Township Village.

He often engaged in petty thievery.

More often than not, what Li Yuan said was the truth.
