Chapter 33: Front and rear attack

Feng Jun and Li Lu were unaware of what was happening outside; by the time they reached the surface, it was already dusk, and after nightfall, the Zombies would become even more active.

The two had arrived at the subway station's surface entrance, which, although collapsed and damaged, fortunately still had a few supporting openings that allowed them to see the street outside.

However, the street outside was almost entirely filled with densely packed Zombies, and Feng Jun gasped when he saw so many Zombies.

Besides the Zombies, there were also a few strangely shaped Mutants.

Thump ~ Thump ~ Heavy footsteps shook the ground as a four-story-tall Mutant walked down the street.

This Mutant was covered in gray scales, stood upright on two legs, and had a thick tail behind its butt.

Its massive claws even gleamed with a metallic luster, and its head was also covered in gray scales.

Its mouth stretched to its ears, and its sharp fangs looked like they could bite through anything.

Feng Jun pulled out his bio-energy detector and took a look; good heavens, this thing's energy value was as high as 500 points.

Just by looking at it, he knew this guy was not to be trifled with.

Name/Code: Scale Armor Corpse

Species: Zombie

Energy Value: 500+

The Scale Armor Corpse walked among the densely packed Zombie Tide, and some Zombies that were too slow to evade were directly trampled into a pulp.

It was like a king among this group of Zombies, and with every step, the ground would tremble slightly.

When the Scale Armor Corpse walked to the collapsed subway station, it suddenly stopped and lowered its head slightly.

It seemed to have smelled something, as the Scale Armor Corpse's nostrils flared, sniffing the air continuously, and its vertical pupils scanned the street below without stopping.

Li Lu reached out and pulled Feng Jun back from peering out of the opening, making a shushing gesture at him.

She took a small metal canister from her waist equipment, twisted it open, and as a hiss of gas escaped, Feng Jun smelled a nauseating stench of decay.

At this moment, the Scale Armor Corpse had already bent down, sniffing around on the ground.

High-level Mutants are very sensitive to human scent, and this Scale Armor Corpse must have smelled the human scent on Feng Jun and Li Lu.

The canister Li Lu opened was a tool used by their Bounty Hunters to mask their own scent; once opened, it emitted the unique putrid smell of Zombies and could conceal human scent.

The last time Li Lu was injured by Sawtooth, she relied on this to escape Sawtooth's pursuit.

Li Lu and Feng Jun were both pressed against the wall behind them, not daring to breathe.

The Scale Armor Corpse was already directly lying on the street, like a giant lizard.

Its sharp claws easily scraped grooves into the ground.

Li Lu hadn't expected to encounter a Mutant of this level here; she had originally thought there would only be ordinary Mutated Zombies on the surface.

The Scale Armor Corpse had already climbed above the two of them, sniffing around in the collapsed concrete cracks.

They could clearly hear the metallic scraping sound of the Scale Armor Corpse's scales rubbing against the wall, and its claws even rested on the opening next to Feng Jun at one point.

The black claws gleamed with a metallic luster, shimmering coldly, and Feng Jun could even smell the blood on them.

With just one movement, it carved a deep mark on the wall.

After circling the collapsed subway station, the Scale Armor Corpse didn't find anything, and the collapsed wall even underwent a secondary collapse under its weight, kicking up a cloud of dust.

The Scale Armor Corpse stood up in annoyance, covered in dust.

It seemed to have smelled human scent just now, but after searching for a while, it found no trace.

Accompanied by the ground's tremor, the Scale Armor Corpse gradually moved away.

Feng Jun and Li Lu finally breathed a sigh of relief; their palms were already covered in sweat, and their hands gripping their gun stocks began to cramp from tension.

The wall that had just collapsed nearly crushed them, and the already small opening became even smaller.

Feng Jun glanced outside; the street was still densely packed with Zombies, and the Scale Armor Corpse hadn't gone far, lingering under a building not far away, showing no intention of leaving with the Zombie Tide.

Looking at the Zombies outside, Feng Jun asked Li Lu, "What should we do now? Try to kill this Scale Armor Corpse?"

Li Lu was looking at the map, trying to find other routes, and when she heard Feng Jun's idea, she exclaimed in surprise, "You still want to kill that Mutant? Stop daydreaming.

The scales of this Scale Armor Corpse have mutated to be comparable in strength to A-grade metal.

Unless it's a large-caliber laser cannon or plasma weapon, hitting it will only be like scratching an itch."

After hearing Li Lu speak, Feng Jun poked his head out again to look at the Scale Armor Corpse.

It wasn't that he was overly confident in his own strength, believing he could easily kill this Scale Armor Corpse.

It was just that after seeing the Scale Armor Corpse, his long-dormant storage space once again transmitted information: the Scale Armor Corpse in front of him was indeed a Mutant carrying a gene seed.

Recalling his battle with Sawtooth, this Scale Armor Corpse in front of him seemed to be even stronger than Sawtooth, at least in terms of attack power and defense.

He had only been able to defeat Sawtooth thanks to the miniature fission grenade in his storage space and his ability to traverse.

The Scale Armor Corpse had been lingering on the street outside, showing no intention of leaving with the Zombie Tide.

It was like a monarch of this vicinity, occasionally patrolling its territory.

Occasionally, it would even grab one or two unlucky Mutants from the Zombie horde to eat.

However, the taste of ordinary Zombies did not suit its palate; only those Zombies that had mutated and grown new flesh on their bodies could pique its interest.

Just as the Scale Armor Corpse had locked onto a Zombie and was bending down to grab it, a truck flew from the other end of the street and crashed onto its back.

The Scale Armor Corpse, hit by the truck, stood up, furious at having its meal interrupted.

As the absolute king of this street area, it would not tolerate any provocation.

A heavier tremor came from the other end of the street, and a Roadblock slowly walked over.

This Roadblock was even taller than the one Feng Jun had seen outside Huaicheng District last time.

Its hardened cuticles protruded high on its skin, and it was even slightly taller than the Scale Armor Corpse.

The most peculiar thing was that two sharp claws, like those of an arthropod, grew from behind its shoulders, raised high, and a second head had grown behind its originally flat, small head, though this head had little flesh, looking like a skin-and-bones skeleton.

This was a mutated Roadblock, and Feng Jun obtained astonishing values after pulling out his bio-energy detector.

This Roadblock's energy points reached 580 helium crystal value.

Name/Code: Roadblock / Mutated Species

Species: Zombie

Energy Value: 580+

High-level Mutants possessed a certain degree of intelligence, and due to their bloodthirsty and brutal nature, they all had a certain territorial awareness.

For example, this Scale Armor Corpse was the absolute king of the nearby few streets.

In its eyes, this Roadblock was challenging it, challenging its ruling authority in this street area.

The Scale Armor Corpse stood up and responded to the Roadblock with an angry roar.

Mutual devouring and killing among Mutants was a common occurrence.

Although the Roadblock had a higher energy value, the Scale Armor Corpse, with its mutated scales, showed no fear of this giant fat creature in front of it.

After roaring, the Scale Armor Corpse suddenly exerted force and charged fiercely towards the Roadblock.

The two behemoths crashed into each other, and the sound waves caused by the collision directly shook the surrounding Zombies, and the already collapsed subway station almost collapsed again.

Although the Scale Armor Corpse actively crashed into the Roadblock, the Roadblock had greater weight and stronger power.

The Scale Armor Corpse's charge did not knock down the Roadblock; after retreating a few steps, the Roadblock stabilized its stance.

The Roadblock, as a Mutant, had thick skin and flesh, especially its arms, which had mutated to be exceptionally thick and covered in bone spurs and hardened cuticles.

After stabilizing its stance, the Roadblock immediately raised its arms, intending to use brute force to directly smash the Scale Armor Corpse to death.

The Scale Armor Corpse naturally wouldn't stand still and take the Roadblock's giant arms head-on.

It immediately flashed behind the Roadblock, firmly gripping the Roadblock's arms with its sharp claws, not giving it a chance to swing its arms, and opened its large mouth to bite down on the Roadblock's head.

Although the Roadblock was larger and stronger, and it was the one that initiated this fight, it was clear that the Scale Armor Corpse was smarter.

With just one encounter, it suppressed the Roadblock, tearing and biting at the Roadblock's head.

However, this Roadblock had a thick layer of hardened cuticle on its body, and its shoulders and head were also covered by a thick layer.

After several bites, the Scale Armor Corpse still couldn't bite off the Roadblock's head.

Threatened with its life, the Roadblock struggled fiercely, roaring and trying to shake the Scale Armor Corpse off its back.

The two arthropod-like claws on its back also stabbed at the Scale Armor Corpse, but they couldn't pierce the Scale Armor Corpse's skin.

It could only continuously crash into nearby buildings, hoping to use the force of the impact to throw the Scale Armor Corpse off.

Feng Jun watched the two behemoths fighting, amazed that living beings could evolve to such an extent.

Moreover, the storage space had just prompted that the mutated Roadblock was also a Mutant carrying a gene seed.

Li Lu patted Feng Jun's shoulder and said, "Don't look anymore, our chance has come.

The nearby Zombies are all avoiding the fight between the two Mutants; we can take this opportunity to run to the next subway station entrance."

Zombies are creatures with a strict hierarchy of evolution; high-level Mutants have an inherent oppressive force over lower-level Zombies.

At this moment, the Zombie Tide on the street, sensing the angry emotions of the two Mutants, all began to move away from the nearby streets.

Feng Jun looked at the nearby road surface; there were almost only two or three Zombies with inconvenient legs still wandering around, which was a good opportunity to leave here.

So, he immediately began to push away the concrete slabs covering the exit with Li Lu, preparing to clear an opening to leave the collapsed subway station.

Just as the two were clearing the obstructing concrete slabs, a sparse wriggling sound came from the tunnel behind them again, and it was getting closer and closer.

Feng Jun immediately realized that the unknown creatures in the tunnel had followed them, but the concrete slabs blocking the exit had not been completely moved away yet.

"You clear the exit here, I'll cover you from behind."

Feng Jun took out his Bolter and rushed backward.

Arriving at the stairs leading underground, some emergency lights were still on in the station staircase.

Feng Jun raised his Bolter and aimed at the platform below.

A few mutated rats appeared in his sight first, followed by a white carpet covering the entire wall.

It was a swarm of white strange insects, and the rats that were caught up were instantly gnawed to white bones.

Feng Jun immediately pulled the trigger; "Damn it! What kind of monsters are these?"

The Bolter immediately exploded among the swarm of insects, instantly killing countless insects, but it was insignificant compared to the entire swarm.
