Chapter 62: Temptation in the city

Chen Guorong opened his mouth after hearing what Wang Jianguo said, seemingly wanting to say something, but in the end, he nodded helplessly in agreement. After a brief conversation with Wang Jianguo, he left the office.

Wang Jianguo sat at his desk, looking up at the window. It was 11 AM, and the sunlight streamed through the glass onto his desk.

Wang Jianguo took a sip of his tea and murmured, "Young people are still too impatient, but what the higher-ups want is economic development, so I have no choice. Consider it casting a long line to catch a big fish."

Outside the office window stood a poplar tree, its leaves all fallen. A crow perched on a branch, staring back at Wang Jianguo.

Inside the villa, Feng Jun was watching Wang Jianguo in his office through the IEM screen. The conversation between Chen Guorong and Wang Jianguo had been captured by this crow reconnaissance bird and transmitted to Feng Jun's IEM. Although the distance was great, the crow reconnaissance bird's eyes had 200x optical zoom and lip-reading capabilities. Feng Jun had a clear understanding of everything the two had discussed in the office.

"Am I being watched by the Security Bureau? I need to be careful," Feng Jun said, looking at the screen.

During those few seconds of eye contact with Chen Guorong in the living room, Feng Jun sensed something off about these people. Feng Jun's five senses were far beyond ordinary, and he could tell from their movements that Chen Guorong and his companions were trained individuals. So, after they left, Feng Jun took out a crow reconnaissance drone from his storage space and followed them back to the Shangqing City Security Bureau, also figuring out their purpose.

"Have they started noticing me? But it doesn't look like they'll make too big a move against me. It's best if it stays this way; I just want to live quietly as a rich man, but helping the country develop when I can is ideal." Feng Jun had no grand ambitions. Although the technology from the Doomsday would certainly spark a technological revolution in this timeline, he didn't want to be noticed by the relevant departments too early.

Fortunately, he had already moved all the Doomsday equipment. Feng Jun surveyed his villa in the yard. A feeling of being monitored arose in his heart; no one liked having a group of people constantly lurking near their home to watch them.

Feng Jun walked around the courtyard, releasing many viper robots from his storage space. These snake-shaped robots were 60-70 centimeters long and looked exactly like ordinary vipers. These robots were controlled by a unified swarm program and were commonly used for reconnaissance and anti-infiltration on the Battlefield in the Doomsday. Their slender body structure was relatively fragile, but they could lurk in various corners and crevices. Their weapons included a 5mm short-range laser emitter in their mouth and fangs that could paralyze biological muscles. The discharge device on their body surface could also release paralyzing current when wrapped around an enemy.

Feng Jun released a total of ten viper robots and three crow robots in the courtyard. The vipers could hide in the grass, but too many crows wouldn't be good.

Returning to the room, Feng Jun saw a pile of clothes on the floor in the living room. He was about to put them back into his storage space, but then he suddenly thought of something. After some thought, Feng Jun took out an EMP electromagnetic pulse grenade from his storage space, pulled the pin, and threw the grenade into the living room.

Accompanied by a faint blue current released from the grenade, many appliances in the room immediately started smoking. This single grenade directly destroyed all electronic equipment in the villa.

This villa came with a full set of furniture and appliances when purchased. All the electronic devices combined might have cost over a hundred thousand, but Feng Jun didn't care about these appliances. The thought that the people earlier might have installed surveillance and listening devices in the villa made him thoroughly uncomfortable.

After confirming that the damaged appliances did not cause an open flame, Feng Jun did not conduct further checks and directly put the women's clothing he bought for Li Lu and the used grenade into his storage space.

From now on, he had to be more careful in his actions in the present world. His abilities could not be known by the people of this world under any circumstances, or he might end up as a guinea pig.

Feng Jun did not place any more robots in the villa, because if someone wanted to come in and search, they wouldn't find anything useful. Feng Jun directly activated his ability and returned to the Doomsday.

He returned to the same room he had left. The air in the Doomsday always had a musty smell compared to the present timeline, but one would get used to it after staying for a while.

The room was empty. Usually, only Li Lu and Feng Jun would enter this room. Since they established their relationship, they had been living together, and Li Lu naturally had the right to enter all places in Longmen Town.

Feng Jun stood by the window and looked up at the sky. The sky had returned to its hazy state, with yellowish-green radiation clouds floating in the sky again. Only a small amount of sunlight shone through the clouds. It seemed that even after another hundred years, the radiation in this world would still envelop the biosphere on the surface.

Suddenly, a pair of small hands embraced Feng Jun from behind. From the feeling, he knew it was Li Lu. Before Feng Jun could actively look for her, Li Lu sensed Feng Jun's return, and as soon as she saw his figure, she eagerly hugged him from behind.

"Why did you go back for so long?" Li Lu said, somewhat reproachfully. She held Feng Jun tightly with both arms, opened her mouth, and gently bit his shoulder, seemingly complaining that Feng Jun had been away for too long.

"Some family matters, and also, I opened a company in that world, and there are some things I need to resolve," Feng Jun explained.

Li Lu let go and snorted. She was very dissatisfied with Feng Jun's answer. "Family? Did your family not introduce you to a blind date? Or did your company hire a beautiful secretary for you? You men are all the same, no matter which world you're in."

Feng Jun broke out in a cold sweat. She had guessed almost all of these things. Women's intuition? But Feng Jun would never admit it, even if it killed him. If he admitted it, Li Lu would surely flay him alive.

"Not at all. I'm running a tech company. They're all men. My family didn't introduce me to any blind dates either," Feng Jun quickly said. "And I didn't miss a single thing you asked me for." As he spoke, Feng Jun took out many clothes he had prepared for Li Lu from his storage space.

Li Lu had originally harbored a trace of resentment towards Feng Jun, but upon seeing the pile of clothes Feng Jun had brought, her face immediately lit up with joy.

Women always feel like they're missing an outfit, even women in modern society always complain they have nothing to wear, let alone Li Lu, who was in the Doomsday.

"Wait until I change and I'll show you." Li Lu kissed Feng Jun on the cheek and eagerly went to choose her clothes. She picked up a pair of high heels and held them against her feet, then picked up a black off-the-shoulder dress. Li Lu's eyes sparkled, her mouth couldn't stop curving upwards, and her eyes couldn't move away from the pile of clothes.

"Do you think I look good in this?"

"Does this red gown look good? With these boots?"

"Is wearing this student uniform too young?"

Li Lu kept asking Feng Jun questions, a string of them that Feng Jun couldn't even keep up with.

"Beautiful, beautiful. You look beautiful in anything," Feng Jun said. "I need to go restock the warehouse with food. You take your time changing; I'll be back soon." Then Feng Jun slipped out the door, leaving Li Lu alone in the pile of clothes.

"This stinky man~ Hmph." Li Lu pouted, looking resentfully at Feng Jun, who had rushed out the door. But soon she was attracted by a shimmering dress, and then she completely forgot about Feng Jun and began to try on every single piece of clothing.

Feng Jun, who had left the house, immediately contacted Song Peng and Song Zhan, and quickly learned about the recent situation in the Doomsday. According to the original plan, Longmen Town was expanding outwards in an orderly manner. The food market had been completed, and two merchant teams from the Zhu Hong Business Association and Blackwater Merchant Guild had stationed themselves in the designated areas of the outer city as agreed. Longmen Town attracted more and more survivors, becoming the second-largest population center near Shangqing City, second only to Huaicheng District.

Feng Jun was very satisfied with the development of Longmen Town, but what concerned him more was the news about Shangqing City. After the storm cloud left the Shangqing City Wasteland, the number of zombies and Mutants in the city drastically decreased, especially the number of high-level Mutants. Therefore, many forces had the idea of going into Shangqing City to search for supplies, and many of them had already started taking action. Among the most active were the five forces from Huaicheng District. According to the intelligence gathered by Song Peng, the Blackwater Merchant Guild, Red Hand Mercenary Group, and Blood Bell Gang had sent their direct armed forces deep into the wasteland, collecting supplies, and it was said that the Blood Bell Gang, who entered the wasteland first, had already found many supplies.

"Are there still many good things in the Shangqing City Wasteland? Enough to warrant so many people going deep inside?" Feng Jun asked after hearing this.

Song Peng chuckled and said, "We don't know about that, but it's said that the Blood Bell Gang found a large warehouse in the wasteland, containing enough food to feed 30,000 people for a year. Some also say that there's a crashed pre-war ground-attack ship in the Shangqing City Wasteland, which could fly again with a little repair. In short, there are all sorts of rumors, but most people are still thinking of taking the opportunity to scavenge some supplies, as many valuable machine tools and production lines cannot be produced by hand."

Feng Jun nodded thoughtfully after hearing this. Humans are creatures driven by profit; as long as there is profit to be made in a place, a large number of people will flock there. However, he also had the idea of going to Shangqing City to explore, not to search for supplies, but because of the mission in his storage space. He had to hand in six gene seeds at once next time, and although he still had one in stock, he couldn't wait until the one-year deadline to collect them.
