Chapter 95: There are many restrictions

The initial intention behind artificial intelligence and robots was to completely liberate humanity, but limited by the development of human society and various factors of human nature, this technological revolution ended as soon as it began. However, in order to maintain social order and stabilize the lower and middle classes, those in power reluctantly made sacrifices, which also promoted social development.

This allowed the Doomsday to enter a relatively stable period of development, lasting from 1950, after the end of World War II, until 2175, when the third world war, which devastated the world, broke out due to an energy crisis.

However, this long period of peace seemed to have made humanity forget the scars of war, to the extent that they crippled themselves as soon as the fighting began.

Yet, the governments in the Doomsday seemed to have overexerted themselves; even during the most severe times of war, the Ming, American, and Soviet governments only used robots as auxiliary forces, controlling some combat robots with basic artificial intelligence.

It is now the Doomsday, free from those agreements and governmental constraints, and social moral restrictions no longer exist.

Developing and using some robots should be acceptable; Feng Jun does not expect them to be overly intelligent, just to have decent combat capabilities.

They could then help him hunt some Mutants.

The six movies were very long, and Gu Yunyun and Gu Yaoyao only endured watching them out of consideration for the snacks Feng Jun provided, skipping some unimportant plotlines.

"We finished the movies. It was truly torture, but some of the settings inside seemed quite interesting," Gu Yunyun said.

"So, can you create terminator robots like the T800?" Feng Jun asked.

Gu Yunyun said, "Uh… theoretically, yes. The manufacturing of the T800's mechanical body is not difficult. The key is the technology to control it."

Then Gu Yunyun began to explain and complain to Feng Jun about some of the settings in the movie.

First, there is the time travel setting, because in the Doomsday, no one has been able to unravel the principle of time paradoxes.

First is the grandfather paradox: This is a classic paradox, referring to the idea that if a person were to go back in time and kill his own grandfather, then he himself would not exist, and thus would not be able to go back and kill his grandfather, forming a logical contradiction.

When a person goes back in time and makes changes, a new timeline might be created, which could lead to changes in the original history or the creation of multiple parallel historical versions.

In the movie, Skynet and John Connor seem to be trapped in a temporal cage, like a rattlesnake, eventually returning to nothingness, but who was the beginning of all this?

Who was the first to travel through time and trigger the time paradox? Was it the machine or John Connor?

Moreover, the terminator itself has many points to critique; in the second film, a young John Connor removed the T800's chip and deleted Skynet's inhibition program, giving the T800 the ability to learn, which brought the T800 to the level of intermediate artificial intelligence.

It can autonomously learn new skills and knowledge, and can perform reasoning, planning, and problem-solving in multiple fields.

And it can generate emotional learning and evolution.

Looking at the chip extracted from the T800 in the movie, it was only the size of an adult's thumb, making it hard to imagine the complexity of the transistor count within it and its ability to perform massive, complex computations.

It's worth noting that even with Quantum Computers in the Doomsday timeline, true intermediate artificial intelligence has not yet been developed, though a significant reason for this is human self-limitation.

What Gu Yunyun wanted to express was that it is possible to manufacture humanoid mechanical bodies similar to the T800 in the movie, but it is unlikely for every T800 to possess computing capabilities similar to ultimate artificial intelligence.

And this computing capability and program are directly related to the robot's combat effectiveness.

Although there are many UAVs and robots that can participate in combat in the Doomsday, their programs are specially designed combat programs, developed based on basic artificial intelligence.

These programs perform well in household or civilian applications, but they cannot effectively adapt to changes on the Battlefield.

To enable robots to adapt to Battlefield changes and react quickly, existing programs need deep simulation and large-scale computational learning using computers.

Creating such programs is very troublesome, but Feng Jun has an experimental Quantum Computer, combined with the primary intelligent artificial intelligence, Ling Jiu.

"It's not that difficult. If we find suitable computing chips, it should take about a month to complete the computational model setup. Then we can proceed with practical combat tests," Gu Yaoyao roughly estimated and said.

A month is not a long time, and Feng Jun could mostly understand what Gu Yaoyao said, as it wasn't overly complex.

However, Gu Yaoyao was also simplifying as much as possible when speaking; she now felt as if she was looking at a primitive man when she looked at Feng Jun.

Suddenly, Feng Jun seemed to think of something and quickly asked, "What do you mean by finding a suitable CPU?"

"Naturally, it's the control chip, a chip that can perform real-time calculations and react during combat.

Although it's basic artificial intelligence, the computational load during combat is far higher than that for daily household chores.

Do you expect to scavenge garbage from the wasteland to build terminators? If so, I estimate you won't even gather a few in a monkey year or horse month," Gu Yunyun said.

The technology for manufacturing the terminator's body is not difficult, but the challenge lies in writing the operational program and the robot's core.

"But weren't Old Eight and Old Nine also made by Li Lu from scavenged junk?" Feng Jun asked, pointing to Old Eight and Old Nine in the yard with some confusion.

Those two fellows were very smart, and Feng Jun didn't feel it took much effort to make them.

Gu Yunyun shrugged helplessly. "First, you should thank Sister Lu for her good luck; she found two Tian Gang A-grade chips before she even met you.

Although they were somewhat damaged, they were relatively intact, so performing complex calculations was naturally no problem at all.

Secondly, before the war, many companies had already developed bionic pet programs, and pet simulation programs for cats and dogs, for example, had long been open source.

And Sister Lu was also in the robot manufacturing industry before the war, so it was possible for her to find some programs from the ruins and modify them."

It was at this point that Feng Jun finally understood.

Although various smart devices were almost ubiquitous in the Doomsday, people like Li Lu who could have an intelligent mechanical companion were very few.

Tian Gang A-grade chips were military-grade chips produced by the Ming Empire, primarily used to equip fleets in space.

Li Lu was able to obtain them because many warship wrecks fell into Shangqing City during the war, and she happened to pick up two while scavenging in the ruins.

Before meeting Feng Jun, Li Lu had only used one Tian Gang A-grade chip as the processor for Old Eight, and later made Old Nine for Feng Jun.

This might also have been a dowry she gave to Feng Jun.
