Chapter 1: Murder on the First Day of High School
Tokyo, Beika Town.
Early April, the season of cherry blossoms, pink petals danced in the streets from time to time.
Amidst this dreamlike cherry blossom rain, three teenagers were frantically running, while desperately complaining to each other.
“Shuichi, today is the first day of school, and you’ve made me late!”
“Eri, how can you blame me! It’s all Kogoro’s fault for forgetting to set his alarm!”
“Hey, it’s not like I forgot to set my alarm on purpose, besides, didn’t you forget yours too?”
…
The noisy trio were all wearing Teitan High School uniforms.
The girl had a beautiful appearance, wore large glasses, and her brown hair was tied into a high ponytail.
Of the two boys, one had a slicked-back hairstyle with a small tuft of hair hanging down over his forehead, prominent cheekbones, and a wide jaw, making him look somewhat unreliable.
The other had short hair, distinct facial features, and bright, piercing eyes, but his expression was somewhat lazy, giving him a rather indolent look.
All three were first-year students at Teitan High School; the girl with glasses was Eri Kisaki, the unreliable-looking one was Kogoro Mouri, and the indolent-looking one was Lin Xiuyi.
Time really flies, it’s already high school…
Lin Xiuyi ran, while Can't help it glancing at his two friends beside him.
It was one thing to transmigrate to the world of Conan, but who would have thought that he didn’t transmigrate to the main timeline, but rather to more than thirty years ago!
If he hadn't met Eri Kisaki and Kogoro Mouri in kindergarten ten years ago, Lin Xiuyi would have thought he had just transmigrated to Tokyo.
After the three met in kindergarten, with Lin Xiuyi's deliberate efforts, they quickly became good friends, and they spent their elementary and middle school years together in the same class.
Now, they were about to embark on their high school life together.
“I knew this would happen, I shouldn’t have waited for you two!” Eri Kisaki complained breathlessly, “This is terrible, we’ve made a bad impression on the teacher on the very first day…”
“You and Shuichi have such good grades, even if you’re late once, the teacher definitely won’t be angry,” Kogoro Mouri said with a bitter face, “I’m the unluckiest one, I might be seen as a delinquent by the teachers for all three years of high school!”
“Alright, stop complaining!” Lin Xiuyi said, amused, “Follow me, I know a shortcut, maybe we won’t even be late.”
“There’s a shortcut? How come I don’t know about it?” Kogoro Mouri was skeptical.
“Idiot, if Shuichi says there is, there is!” Eri Kisaki urged impatiently, “Would he lie to us? Let’s go!”
Led by Lin Xiuyi, the trio changed direction, passed the Beika Swimming Center, and turned into a dark alley nearby.
“Don’t usually take this path,” Lin Xiuyi reminded, “The pinball parlor is just across, and some hooligans who lose like to block this area to rob people.”
“Shuichi, how do you know so clearly…”
Before Eri Kisaki could finish her sentence, she heard an “Ouch,” and Kogoro Mouri, who was running alongside, suddenly tripped and fell face-first for some reason.
“Kogoro, are you alright?” Lin Xiuyi and Eri stopped.
“Today is truly unlucky,” Kogoro Mouri complained as he got up from the ground, “Something tripped me just now, and the ground is so slippery… What, what is this?”
Hearing his voice suddenly turn to fright, Lin Xiuyi and Eri walked back in confusion, and after seeing what was next to Kogoro Mouri’s leg, Eri Kisaki immediately screamed!
“…Well, it seems on the first day of high school, not only will we be late, but we might also skip class,” Lin Xiuyi sighed helplessly, looking at the male corpse and bloodstains on the ground, “You two wait here, don’t move, I’ll go find a public phone to call the police.”
“I, I want to go too!” Eri Kisaki quickly grabbed Lin Xiuyi’s arm.
“And me…”
Kogoro Mouri had just opened his mouth when Lin Xiuyi interrupted him with a mischievous smile,
“Aren’t you planning to join the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Investigation First Division as a detective in the future? This is a good opportunity to get more exposure to corpses and build up your courage.”
“This…”
Kogoro Mouri looked at his hands stained with blood, feeling extremely panicked, but thinking of his dream, he could only brace himself and agree.
Lin Xiuyi and Eri Kisaki went to call the police, while Kogoro Mouri stood alone in the dark alley, with a bleeding corpse at his feet.
“It’s just a corpse, there’s nothing to be afraid of…”
Kogoro braced himself, then lowered his head to glance, only to meet the dead, unclosed eyes of the corpse!
This shock nearly made Kogoro collapse to the ground. He quickly turned around, no longer looking at the corpse, and muttered incessantly,
“Shuichi, Eri, come back quickly…”
…
Half an hour later, Lin Xiuyi and Eri Kisaki returned to the alley with the police.
“Are you… alright?”
Lin Xiuyi was startled to see Kogoro, whose face was pale and forehead covered in cold sweat.
Was the young Kogoro Mouri really this timid?
“I, I’m fine,” Kogoro said woodenly, walking stiffly towards the alley entrance, “I, I’ll go outside for some fresh air…”
“Please don’t go far, we still have questions to ask later,” the young, square-faced police officer reminded him.
“Begin the on-site investigation!”
The police officer with eyebrows that forked and curled at the ends began giving orders in an orderly fashion,
“Matsumoto, you and the forensic division check the body!”
“Yes, Mr.!”
“Morimura, you take people to inquire nearby and see if anyone else has seen the body besides these three children!”
“Yes, Mr.!”
“Inspector Megure, you are responsible for the informant's statement.”
“Yes, Inspector Samezaki!” the square-faced police officer from before answered frantically.
“Don’t be nervous, it’s just a murder case,”
Inspector Samezaki, the current Mr. of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Search Division One, patted the square-faced police officer’s shoulder,
“Cases like this happen almost every few days in Tokyo.”
“But you, young man, are truly unlucky. On your first day of work, you actually encountered a murder case, tsk tsk…”
The young, square-faced police officer gave a dry laugh and quickly took out his notebook, approaching Lin Xiuyi and Eri Kisaki.
Looking at the calm boy who was even observing him, and then at the girl beside him who was visibly nervous and trying hard not to look at the corpse, the young, square-faced police officer immediately decided to start questioning the boy.
“Name?”
“Lin Xiuyi, Mr. Officer, is your last name Inspector Megure?”
“Hmm, age?”
“Sixteen, by the way, Mr. Officer, what’s your full name?”
“Inspector Megure!” The square-faced police officer emphasized, “I’m asking the questions now… Uh, where was I?”
“My age, Mr.,” Lin Xiuyi reminded with a smile, “Next, you should ask for my address, and then the time we discovered the body.”
“Right, you live at…” Inspector Megure’s words trailed off as he realized something was amiss, “Please… don’t interrupt anymore!”
