Chapter 18: What exactly is a true immortal?

After leaving the medical center, Qiao Ling'er immediately went to find her teacher.

“Knock, knock, knock.”

She knocked vigorously on the office door.

The door quickly opened, revealing a voluptuous woman with a slender waist and ample bosom.

“Outer God?”

After listening to Qiao Ling'er's incoherent and fear-filled narration, Qu Huaiwei showed no surprise, only a slight raise of her eyebrows.

“Yes, Teacher.”

Qiao Ling'er didn't hide anything and revealed all the information.

“Near the Central Building in Financial City, claiming to be a True Immortal? A massive three-headed, six-armed shadow, and it even said it wanted to make you a Martial Artist?”

Qu Huaiwei pondered, tapping her finger on the desk.

“Teacher, I haven't been corrupted, have I? Will I turn into a monster?” Qiao Ling'er's voice was tearful.

Qu Huaiwei looked up and said calmly,

“Don't panic, Xiao Ling.”

“The situation you described is very special. I need more precise data to make a judgment.”

She stood up and picked up the access card on the desk:

“Follow me. I have the qualifications to use the highest-spec mental analysis laboratory.”

Deep within the academy, the Mental Energy Laboratory.

The environment here was completely different from an ordinary medical room.

On the silver-white walls...

Flickered faint streams of energy.

A massive circular analyzer stood in the center of the laboratory, surrounded by countless complex pipelines and high-precision sensors.

Qiao Ling'er lay down in the detection pod.

The pod door closed, and various colored beams scanned her body.

Qu Huaiwei stood in front of the main console, her fingers rapidly operating on the virtual keyboard, as streams of data flashed across the holographic screen.

Time passed by minute by minute.

The pod door opened, and Qiao Ling'er walked out, looking nervously at her teacher.

Staring at the final analysis report on the screen, Qu Huaiwei was silent for a moment before slowly speaking:

“All your physiological indicators are completely normal. There are no signs of corrosion or modification by Outer God power.”

“That's great.”

Qiao Ling'er breathed a sigh of relief.

“However.”

Qu Huaiwei changed the subject, pointing to an extremely faint energy fluctuation curve on the screen: “This is a special energy residue that cannot be analyzed at present.”

She looked at Qiao Ling'er, a little complex:

“From the data, it's harmless. Instead, it activated your mental potential and optimized your energy affinity. This is also why you reached the Martial Artist threshold overnight.”

“Rea... really?”

Qiao Ling'er's eyes widened, fear replaced by bewilderment.

“The current data suggests so.” Qu Huaiwei nodded, her expression serious, “However, this matter is not trivial.”

After a moment of thought, she asked:

“Do you live near the Central Building in Financial City? And you encountered it there? It claimed to be a True Immortal?”

“Yes!”

Qiao Ling'er nodded quickly.

“Good.”

Qu Huaiwei took a deep breath: “Xiao Ling, for now, only the two of us know about this matter. Absolutely do not mention it to a third person, including your closest relatives, understand?”

“Understood!”

Qiao Ling'er nodded vigorously.

“Come back for a re-examination once a week from now on. I need to continuously monitor the state of this residual energy.” Qu Huaiwei instructed.

“Okay, Teacher.”

Qiao Ling'er felt as if she had been granted a great pardon and left the laboratory with complex emotions.

Watching her disappear at the door, the calm on Qu Huaiwei's face instantly vanished, replaced by an uncontrollable excitement.

She returned to her office and locked the door.

“A True Immortal?”

Qu Huaiwei walked to the safe and entered the password.

“Click.”

The safe opened.

There were no gold or silver treasures inside, only a few documents.

With trembling hands, she took out the top one.

Qu Huaiwei stared at the words “Corpse Disassembly Immortal,” and her breathing became heavy.

“Base 08 completely wiped out.”

“Dr. Tang sacrificed.”

She murmured the encrypted report of the highest alert level from the Martial Artist Association, which she had received late last night.

“Could it be that it is the Outer God that escaped from Base 08? The so-called Corpse Disassembly Immortal?”

Qu Huaiwei put down the file and then pulled out another, even older, yellowed and brittle document from the safe.

She quickly flipped through it, her gaze stopping on one page:

“Three hundred years ago, humans unearthed a buried Old Era relic deep within the earth's veins.”

“The relic was merely an ancient tomb, and it only contained some books, which in turn only recorded some stories, without much value.”

Looking at the data, Qu Huaiwei was deep in thought.

“Corpse Disassembly Immortal? True Immortal?”

Qu Huaiwei turned to the next page.

This page recorded some legendary stories, such as the Tale of Peach Blossom Spring, and people entering the mountains, where one day in the mountains was a hundred years on Earth!

These were all legends of Immortals!

Before a few hundred years ago, there was no concept of “Immortal.”

But ever since the data from underground was unearthed, humans for the first time saw a powerful force beyond Martial Artists, named Immortal.

Immortals could fly into the sky and burrow into the earth, and had long lifespans!

However, this was quickly dismissed by the scientific community as children's stories.

Even in the records of the Old Era, Immortals were called nonsense.

“Although Martial Artists are powerful, they are ultimately limited by their flesh and blood bodies, and their lifespans are also limited.”

Qu Huaiwei muttered to herself, “The strongest human, 'Kuei,' also died at the age of 131, but Immortals... can they truly Breakthrough the limits of lifespan?”

“Corpse Disassembly Immortal... True Immortal...”

She murmured to herself, bold thoughts wildly sprouting.

“What exactly is a True Immortal?”

.....

Library, fourth floor.

Xuan Hao's consciousness had transferred to a lecturer with higher authority.

The fourth floor had more books, covering Martial Artist Cultivation, involving profound Martial Skill principles, research on rare monstrous creatures, and so on.

However, Xuan Hao didn't care about these.

His Divine Sense swept out, trying to find records about special life forms from the Old Era.

Unfortunately, the harvest was meager.

Human civilization experienced a 斷層 when the Outer Gods first descended.

Although fragmented data from Old Era relics were excavated, and humanity rebuilt society, this information was insufficient to glimpse the full picture of the Old Era.

Xuan Hao knew the Old Era very well.

But what he wanted were clues about himself.

It was a pity, he found nothing.

Xuan Hao turned and left.

As a True Immortal, he possessed a long lifespan and was not in a hurry.

Moreover, with his own power, almost no one could do anything to him.

Even if it was like finding a needle in a haystack, with his long lifespan, Xuan Hao was confident he could find his true body.
