Chapter 3: A quiet library

Estelle, who heard the commotion from afar, rushed over. As soon as she arrived, she saw her daughter, whom she had been searching for a long time, riding on Eros and desperately shaking his head.

Immediately, her anger flared, and her usually gentle face was now covered in frost.

"Wendini, get off him! How can you bully your younger brother?"

Upon hearing her mother's voice, Wendini's anger instantly vanished, replaced by fear and panic. She abruptly stood up, intending to run.

"Wendini, stop right there!" Estelle, seeing her daughter trying to run, immediately yelled.

Wendini instantly froze in place, her head drooping like a defeated little hen. Estelle hurried over.

Looking at her daughter, whose temperament she couldn't guess who it resembled, she was filled with exasperation. She spoke in a stern tone:

"Why didn't you go to your lessons today?"

Wendini lowered her head and mumbled, "Mr. Boroka's lessons are so boring."

Her voice grew softer and softer until it was almost inaudible.

"Boring, so you skip class? Look at your younger brother; he's two years younger than you, and he's already finished his etiquette lessons. How come he doesn't find it boring? You're the older sister; you should be setting an example for your brother."

Estelle looked at her daughter, filled with the frustration of seeing potential wasted.

Hearing her mother praise her brother, Wendini glanced at Eros and saw him winking and smirking at her, looking gloating.

She immediately became furious and was about to pounce to get revenge, but then she heard Estelle scold her:

"Wendini, are you still trying to hit him? Your brother is only seven years old. What if he gets hurt from you shaking him like that?"

Wendini immediately stopped moving, withdrew her hand, and continued to hang her head.

Estelle then turned to Eros and asked with concern, "Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?"

Eros shook his head, "I'm fine, Mama! Sister was just playing with me."

Looking at her well-behaved and sensible son, and then at her unruly daughter who couldn't be left unsupervised, she was instantly exasperated:

"Look at your brother, and then look at yourself?"

Wendini turned her head away, pretending not to hear, but muttered under her breath:

"Tattletale, just wait until I get my hands on you later."

Soon, Wendini was lifted away by Estelle, who held her by the back of her collar, which greatly surprised Eros, who was watching.

After all, although Wendini was not fat, her nine-year-old figure was already showing signs of slenderness and was certainly not light.

And yet, she was easily lifted away by Estelle's slender arm with just one hand? This made it somewhat unbelievable to him.

Although there were constant interruptions, he still hadn't forgotten the purpose of his trip.

So, with a feeling of bewilderment, he continued walking towards the library.

He hoped to make more discoveries today. The mysterious side, hehehe.

...

To be fair, this was his first time visiting his family's library.

So, upon seeing the massive building before him, he couldn't help but be surprised again by his family's wealth.

He found it hard to imagine how the local people in this old society, where technology was backward in all aspects, managed to construct such a large and exquisite building.

"But, hehe! This will all be mine, all mine!"

He stopped thinking further, extended his hands, and tried to push open the heavy door, only to find that opening it was unexpectedly easy.

However, what struck him as odd was that he had heard there were people on duty at the library, but he didn't see anyone at the counter when he entered, nor was there anyone else within his field of vision.

He had originally intended to inquire about the location of history books, but it seemed that idea had fallen through.

Well! He would just have to search slowly himself.

He walked with his short legs, looking at each bookshelf. From bottom to top, he saw rows of books titled, "How to Attract the Attention of Noblewomen," "How to Get Along with Noblewomen," "How to Win the Heart of Noblewomen"...

What, what, what in the world are these things? This is ridiculous!

He circled around for a long time but found no history books, only a large pile of miscellaneous ones.

To his surprise, the library actually contained quite a few novels.

Unfortunately, most of them were knight biographies.

He pulled out a few and casually flipped through them, finding that most were about knights saving princesses, but in the end, the princess would marry a prince. Yet, even so, the knight would faithfully guard the princess without abandoning her.

What kind of cuckoldry was this? It was infuriating to read. He shoved the book back, fearing that if he continued, his 2002 brain thrombosis would be hard to suppress.

However, when he saw the book "Pirate King Sally's Treasure Trove," he was pleasantly surprised.

The beginning of the book surprisingly contained an introduction to the Sea areas surrounding the Croatia continent, which he had never known before.

After all, his family's territory was deep inland, tens of thousands of miles from the Sea, so no one had ever told him about the Sea. Firstly, it wasn't necessary, and secondly, because he was still young.

He hadn't even finished learning the geography near his own territory, and he was already thinking about Sea areas tens of thousands of miles away. Wasn't that being overly ambitious?

Therefore, he knew very little about the Sea of this world, basically a blank slate.

After reading the book's introduction to the surrounding Sea areas, his spirits lifted.

Because all the Sea areas introduced in the book, when sailing five hundred kilometers outwards, would eventually connect to the same Sea area—the Mist Sea.

The book described the Mist Sea as being perpetually shrouded in mist.

Any life that entered the Mist Sea would get lost in that ocean, with only one in a hundred returning alive.

For ten thousand years, countless talented individuals had tried to conquer that Sea area, but all had failed. Thus, that Sea area was also called the Sea of the Abandoned Gods.

Eros was somewhat surprised. After all, according to what was recorded in the book, didn't that mean all humans on the Croatia continent only possessed the Sea area within five hundred kilometers of the coastline?

This was truly a bit unbelievable. Fog on the Sea was normal, but it being perpetually present was very abnormal, right?

Not to mention the extent of the fog, which consistently remained five hundred kilometers beyond the coastline.

This didn't seem like a force that nature could possess at all. Could this be the mysterious event of this world? It was truly incredible.

This discovery made him even more excited. Sure enough, this world had a mysterious side, and it was so close to humans.

Although he had made a discovery, he didn't foolishly rush to the Mist Sea to try it out.

Didn't the book say that only one in a hundred who entered the Mist Sea returned alive? The world was vast, wasn't it better to just live?

After reading the regional introduction in the preface, Eros had little interest in the remaining content. He put the book back in its place and continued searching for other related books.

This time, his search scope expanded somewhat, and books describing the Mist Sea also became his target.

He went through the bookshelves row by row, but this progress was really too slow. Originally, he could have asked the servants on duty in the library to help him search.

But for some reason today, none of the people who were supposed to be on duty were visible. The vast library was left with only him.
