Chapter 4: [Inheritor]

The voice was extremely low, and no one heard it except Han He.

The abnormality of the two could no longer be hidden; the surrounding classmates looked strangely at Shi Yu and Han He. No one dared to talk to Han He, but a few people asked Shi Yu what was wrong, and if he was feeling unwell.

"No... nothing... haha... My stomach suddenly hurts, I might need to go to the bathroom."

Shi Yu suppressed his feelings, he reluctantly responded to the concern of his classmates, and then began to pack his things.

"Yang Desheng has a strong scent of Evil on him, unlike Hu Zihao. His scent is from frequent contact with Evil. He might even be controlled. Is the Evil here so blatant?"

Han He said in a voice only he and Shi Yu could hear.

Shi Yu, however, didn't respond much. He had felt it when Yang Desheng came in, that terrifying aura lingering around Yang Desheng. Even though he didn't want to understand, he was still scared stiff.

This was the closest he had ever come to the Evil Han He spoke of in his life so far.

Shi Yu was truly scared, but he had no choice. If he asked for leave now, the homeroom teacher wasn't around, and he would still end up having to see Yang Desheng. If he got too close to Yang Desheng, he would definitely expose himself, and then he would probably be targeted. Maybe the next person Evil would kill would be him.

Han He frowned, looking at the trembling Shi Yu and Hu Zihao, who was trying to get closer from a distance. He steeled himself, grabbed Shi Yu's wrist directly, and walked out, while motioning for Hu Zihao to follow.

Shi Yu was stunned. At first, he wanted to struggle, but after thinking about it, seeing that the atmosphere in the school was starting to get strange, it was better to follow the reliable Han He and listen to what he had to say. So he just followed along.

And Hu Zihao also hurriedly followed behind them.

When they reached the corridor, Hu Zihao looked at Shi Yu, still wanting to keep his distance, but Shi Yu waved at him, telling him to come over.

"It's alright, come over. This place is getting weirder and weirder, and hiding won't do me any good."

Hu Zihao slowly walked over after hearing that, but still maintained a slight distance from Shi Yu.

Shi Yu watched Hu Zihao's behavior and secretly sighed.

"He's truly a very kind person, how did he end up in such a situation."

But then he thought.

"Even the grade director is related to Evil, so maybe no one can escape. I should pity myself first."

While Shi Yu was thinking, Hu Zihao asked the two what had happened.

Shi Yu spoke, telling him what the two of them had felt.

"Han He and I both felt the aura of Evil on Yang Desheng, and unlike you, he felt more like an extension of Evil rather than a target. Yang Desheng even gave me a feeling..."

Shi Yu paused, then finished his sentence:

"He's no longer Yang Desheng; his body might no longer contain Yang Desheng."

And Han He continued the conversation.

"That aura is very dangerous, I definitely can't deal with it. The Evil here has probably killed more than once. Are there any missing people in other classes?"

"Other classes?"

Hu Zihao was stunned; he really didn't know that.

Han He sighed, looking at the two of them, knowing that they probably didn't know anything more, but he still had a question.

Han He looked at Shi Yu, his tone much more serious this time.

"Are you an Inheritor? At this point, there's no need to hide it."

"Huh?"

Shi Yu had just overcome the surrounding fear when he heard Han He's question.

But he really didn't understand!

"I really don't know what you mean. If being an Inheritor, as you call it, can get rid of those terrifying things, then I wish I were one. Please, can you explain it more clearly? OK? I really don't understand."

Han He looked at Shi Yu, who didn't seem to be acting. After thinking for a moment and seeing that most of the surrounding classmates had left and no one was paying attention to them, he gestured for the two to talk while walking.

The stairs were trodden step by step, and the pale, bright lights in the hallway stretched the shadows of the three boys.

"An Inheritor is someone who has received a certain artistic inheritance. Inheritors can learn the power of their own inheritance... power used to fight against Evil."

Han He turned a corner, leading the other two along a path with a moderate number of people towards the dormitory building. He continued:

"Because of my family, I received the inheritance of the Hunter, and now I am the Ninth Art, Wolf Fang."

Then he looked at Shi Yu.

"You can sense danger and fear, and you can perceive certain things before I do. I once heard my grandfather say that an inheritance has similar abilities."

Han He's eyes glowed like a wolf's in the shadows, and he said:

"The inheritance of Witchcraft Ritual, the Tenth Art, Trance."

Shi Yu shook his head, directly denying Han He.

"According to your explanation, inheritance, as the name suggests, must be a power that needs to be learned. I can tell you clearly that I have never encountered anything similar."

Han He nodded, indicating understanding. Hu Zihao interjected from the side:

"Then... if you, as an Inheritor, can't even deal with it, what am I supposed to do? Have you dealt with similar things before?"

Han He waved his hand to brush away the Moth flying in front of him and said:

"I have fought against Evil with my grandfather in the past, but that time felt less dangerous than this one. My family's ancestors were all Hunters, so when I was little, my grandfather taught me hunting skills. There was no concept of 'Inheritor' back then, and my grandfather wasn't one either, until 5 years ago. That's when I felt the power of the inheritance; it awakened within me.

And my grandfather came into contact with some people from the country, but not much, so I'm not sure why things have developed this way now. I'm also not sure what changes have occurred in the world today."

At this point, Han He looked at Hu Zihao beside him.

"As for you, I can only do my best. Our greatest hope now is that someone can contact the outside world, or that we can hold out until next Friday.

But honestly, I don't think we can wait until then. Even if we could, during that time, other classmates might mysteriously disappear. If the homeroom teacher reports it today and Yang Desheng finds out, he might also meet with misfortune."

Shi Yu listened to Han He speak, and a sense of powerlessness arose.

He was just going to school as usual, always priding himself on his somewhat special "good luck," but suddenly he found himself in a situation where he was surrounded by terrifying premonitions. Originally, he had just thought Liu Zunfu was an isolated case, but Hu Zihao's appearance began to shake Shi Yu's sense of security, until Yang Desheng appeared.

Shi Yu felt that he could no longer remain uninvolved.

If, as Han He said, Evil possesses special abilities and is already very strong, then it means that Evil has killed more than one person; they just haven't noticed it.

Shi Yu had a guess.

"Could it be that... this Evil has already killed many people, and it can alter people's memories, so we haven't discovered it yet? And Yang Desheng also gained similar power, so after talking with your roommates, they all expressed disbelief."

Shi Yu stated his thoughts.

Hu Zihao, however, denied it.

"Then why do we all remember Liu Zunfu this time, and we were even able to tell the homeroom teacher, which has now led to... the homeroom teacher being nowhere to be found?"

Han He, however, paused for a moment, then said:

"What you two said reminds me of something. My grandfather said that Evil also constantly evolves. Could it be that they are like animals, like snakes shedding their skin or crabs molting, and are more vulnerable during evolution?

And the reason Shi Yu felt fear from Liu Zunfu was because that Evil was about to evolve, so it couldn't hide its power as usual."

Shi Yu also continued along the same line of thought:

"So, Yang Desheng also suddenly appeared today, and he didn't hide his aura either...

One possibility is that he and that Evil, after observing, believe no one can threaten them, so they are acting recklessly.

The second possibility is that it might have sensed someone like Han He in the school, and because it can't control its power during this period, it knows someone can discover it, so it's bluffing to prevent Inheritors from acting rashly, waiting for it to get through this period so it can hide again."

The dormitory building was quickly reached. Even if he was unwilling, Hu Zihao could only go back, otherwise the school would quickly become empty, and he would be in danger. When they entered, Shi Yu and Hu Zihao both greeted the dormitory Huang Daye, and even Han He nodded at him.

Dormitory Huang Daye, surnamed Huang, was a good-tempered old man who said he came to the school because he was retired and had nothing to do, and could also earn some money. He didn't make things difficult for students and often chatted and joked with students passing by, so the students all liked him.

Hu Zihao suddenly remembered the homeroom teacher saying he was going to the monitoring room that morning. Didn't the dormitory also have surveillance? Would Huang Daye have seen the homeroom teacher?

Hu Zihao hated his stupid brain for forgetting everything when he was scared, and at the same time, he asked:

"Huang Daye, I forgot to ask, our homeroom teacher said he was coming to check the surveillance today. Did you see him?"

"What? Someone checking surveillance today? I don't know. What's wrong, did you get caught holding hands with a girl?"

Huang Daye's answer was direct, stating that he had not seen their homeroom teacher, Liu Zhipeng.

Seeing this, Hu Zihao didn't say anything more. After saying goodbye to Huang Daye, he turned and left with Shi Yu and the others.

And after the three of them left, Huang Daye subtly sighed. His movement was very slight. He glanced around without a trace, then hummed a tune and strolled away as if nothing had happened.

Hu Zihao decided to stay with Shi Yu and Han He until bedtime. The three of them were in different dorm rooms. Shi Yu's dorm room was diagonally opposite Hu Zihao's, making them the closest. Han He's dorm room was on the same row as Hu Zihao's, located in the middle.

Shi Yu's roommates were all typical extroverts; they wouldn't return to the dorm until lights out every night, so the three of them chose to stay in Shi Yu's dorm room first.

Han He specifically reminded the two before entering the dormitory building that Evil does not appear out of thin air; its location often has a place similar to a door. Within that range, Evil can access a lot of information, so he told everyone not to say anything random after entering the building, to avoid causing trouble.

So now the three of them sat in the dorm room, looking at each other, completely out of topics.

Han He was a quiet person, Shi Yu was not inherently outgoing, and Hu Zihao had spent very little time with the two of them. The three of them sat in the dorm room, picking at their hands for a while, then flipping through novels, and soon time slipped away in awkwardness.

"No! Absolutely not! The school is cracking down hard recently! Don't make things difficult for an old man like me!"

Suddenly, Huang Daye's voice came through, sounding a bit agitated.

"Huang Daye, please, I promise I won't play anymore, please give it back to me."

A pleading voice came. Shi Yu, being closest to the door, pushed it open and saw Huang Daye holding a mobile phone, with a boy from the next class standing beside him.

"Caught playing with a phone by Huang Daye? That's strange, Huang Daye usually turns a blind eye to this kind of thing. Why is he so serious today?"

Hu Zihao whispered beside Shi Yu.

"No, I'll use your phone to call your homeroom teacher now and have her deal with you seriously!"

Huang Daye, abandoning his usual amiable demeanor, directly dialed a number on the boy's phone.

At this moment, the corridor doors were mostly open, and people from the dorm rooms were peeking out to watch the commotion. The boys quietly discussed Huang Daye's unusual behavior today and the boy's bad luck, their voices a jumbled, rising and falling cacophony.

Huang Daye quickly dialed the number, and the call was answered quickly.

"Hello? Is this Teacher Li? I know it's late, but there's a very serious matter. The principal just held a meeting two days ago, saying that our No. 12 High School of Yi City is cracking down on discipline recently, cracking down on discipline, but a student in your class still disregards the rules! They're still secretly violating discipline! If this continues, the school's reputation will be ruined! If the higher-ups blame us! At my age, I can't afford to lose face!"

Huang Daye spoke very quickly, his words like a rapid-fire cannon, leaving no room for the other party to breathe as he spoke.

But suddenly, Huang Daye paused for two seconds. Then he changed his expression and spoke.

"Oh dear, I'm so sorry, so sorry, excuse me, sir. Oh, I'm old, and this is a student's phone, I didn't remember the phone number. I'm so sorry to bother you so late, haha, I'm really sorry. Oh, if you were closer, I'd want to go apologize to you right away. Oh dear, what a mess this has become."

The whispers among the surrounding boys grew louder. Anyone not foolish could tell that Huang Daye had dialed the wrong number. Laughter rippled through the corridor like a stream lapping at the riverbanks, layer upon layer.

"What are you laughing at?!"

Huang Daye glared back, and the surrounding noise immediately died down. Then Huang Daye dialed again, and this time the homeroom teacher of the adjacent class answered.

Huang Daye wasn't as agitated as before; perhaps the embarrassment had calmed him down a bit, so this time Huang Daye's call was steady, without excessive accusations against the boy.

"Alright, alright, then thank you for your trouble tomorrow, Teacher Li. Mm-hmm, no problem, no problem. I'll keep this kid's phone for now. Young kids, it's normal for them to be mischievous... Mm-hmm, rest assured, rest assured, I'll make sure to hold onto it. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, you rest. Mm, mm-hmm, okay."

The call ended.

Huang Daye tapped the phone screen, then put the phone in his pocket, dispersed the students watching the commotion, and walked downstairs step by step.

"Huang Daye is really serious today."

Hu Zihao shrank his neck. The school strictly prohibited bringing mobile phones, and the checks were very strict. At least, mobile phones were absolutely not allowed in the classrooms, and the dorm rooms were occasionally searched when students were not present, so very few people actually brought mobile phones.

Shi Yu was a little curious, but he suppressed his curiosity, afraid of exposing himself at this moment.

"It's almost lights out."
