Chapter 1006: sealed slate

“Is this the slate you mentioned?”

The box Xia De retrieved was placed at one end of the dining table. When the box was opened, a rectangular slate lay on the soft lining inside.

The size of the slate was exactly the same as the one Xia De obtained from Mr. Edmund, except that the four corners of this one were red jade instead of silver. In addition, the only rune engraved on the surface of the slate that would automatically float when illuminated by Xia De’s Silver Moon Ling Rune was the ancient numeral “two,” while the rune on this one was “one.”

After breakfast, the first slate was also retrieved by Xia De from the basement. The slate floated in mid-air, directly above Mia, who was still eating with her head down. Xia De had already tried illuminating the newly retrieved “Red Moon Slate” with the spiritual light of the Silver Moon and yellow moon Ling Runes, but there was no reaction.

The slate left to him by the Old God Grey-Robed Sage could clearly only be deciphered using his own rune spiritual light. Thanks to the God of Vampires during the Battle of Sicar Mountain, Xia De did possess the blasphemy of the Red Moon, but unfortunately, that Ling Rune was currently sealed. He had yet to find a way to unseal it. This wasn't because Xia De hadn't actively searched, but rather because the reason for this Ling Rune's sealing was truly difficult to compare with other cases.

His original idea was to try to actively unseal it with divine power in a deified state during the next burning of divinity. Now, it seemed he still needed to think of other methods.

In Fifth Epoch 5177, the Old God Undetermined Sage guided him to seek a higher-level moon and use power of the same origin to unseal the Ling Rune. Thus, Xia De had one more thing to look for.

It seemed that since coming to this world, the Outsider had always been searching for something.

“May I see it?”

Leia asked curiously, reaching out to pull the box containing the slate in front of her. She only intended to touch it, but as soon as her finger made contact, a large cloud of steam immediately surged from behind her.

The Ring術士’s Destiny Ring appeared. Although the sound and light effects were astonishing, they could only be observed at close range, and at this moment, Xia De and Mia were clearly at close range.

The cat, eating with its head down, was startled by the subsequent whistle and bell, and it jumped up from the table. But it forgot that the “Silver Moon Slate” was still floating above its head, so the cat crashed into the slate.

“Meow~”

For a moment, Mia’s miserable cry was even louder than the whistle and bell behind Leia. By the time Leia recovered, the first thing she noticed was not that she had gained a new Ling Rune, but that Xia De was holding the pathetic Mia, completely oblivious to her.

The Golden-haired girl subtly pouted, but she wasn't so angry as to be upset over a cat:

“It seems the legend you spoke of is true. Touching these slates, if one’s spiritual perception is strong, can indeed grant Ling Runes.”

Xia De looked up at Leia’s back. The Five-Ring Sorcerer’s brass Destiny Ring was gradually disappearing into the steam mist. Although the kitchen area was small, the Destiny Ring adjusted its size appropriately. Its highest point almost touched the ceiling, yet it carefully maintained a distance. Compared to the indoor space, this was indeed a large object. Before it completely disappeared, Xia De saw the Miracle - Library in the Years.

“Such a specific Ling Rune is difficult to associate with corresponding Miracles, but gaining a new Ling Rune is good news after all, indicating that I am one step closer to Hexacle.”

Leia said with a smile, glanced at the cat lying in Xia De’s arms, then slightly got up and kissed Xia De on the cheek:

“Thank you for your help, Xia De.”

“What do you think would happen if Dorothy touched this slate directly?”

Xia De asked curiously again.

“That question is simple.”

The Golden-haired girl leaned back slightly and closed her eyes. A few seconds later, amidst the cat’s meows, she sat upright again.

“Good morning, Xia De.”

Dorothy greeted Xia De with a smile, picked up a fried egg from the plate with her right hand, and reached for the new slate with her left hand:

“No reaction.”

The Writer said, then took a bite of the egg, and said to Xia De helplessly:

“Leia’s cooking skills are still not as good as mine. I hope this breakfast hasn’t ruined your day.”

Xia De did not comment on this. At this time, it was best to keep quiet and eat honestly.

Sure enough, just as Xia De expected, Dorothy also did not expect Xia De to express his opinion on Leia’s cooking skills. She leaned back again, and after waiting a few seconds, as Mia meowed again, Leia returned:

“It seems it really doesn’t work.”

The two girls’ souls swapped, allowing them to know each other’s short-term memories, so she knew what had happened:

“However, is it really that different from Dorothy’s cooking?”

She asked suspiciously, then saw both the person and the cat staring at her.

“What’s wrong?”

“I just didn’t expect you to come back so quickly. I remember that frequent swapping in a short period of time would cause severe mental damage.”

“It’s only an occasional frequent swap; the impact is not significant.”

The Princess seemed very carefree. She sniffed the food on the plate, still doubting herself:

“And it’s been a long time since I’ve been alone with you. Dorothy promised to give me these two days. I remember you haven’t had anything to do recently, have you?”

“Yes, I’ve temporarily dealt with all the matters at hand.”

Xia De nodded. The time key of Fifth Epoch 5177 had ended, and the matters in Huntington City had temporarily come to an end due to the Lake Goddess’s final test. Today was December, the first day of the month of slumber. He planned to take a walk in the city and handle his affairs:

“Do you want to go out with me later? To wander around the city.”

The Golden-haired girl immediately smiled:

“Of course, I’d be happy to accept your invitation.”

She then lowered her voice slightly:

“But tomorrow, Monday evening, I hope you’ll free up your time. Princess Leia Cavendish and Princess Angelina are going out to see an opera. You can board the carriage by waiting at the alley entrance on Hunter Street. Tomorrow night’s opera will still be in a private box.”

Princess Leia Cavendish’s face flushed slightly, but she still looked at Xia De gracefully:

“Dorothy hasn’t been feeling well this week, and Luvia is busy with her potion class assignments. I suppose your evenings must be quite lonely, aren’t they?”

“Hmm.”

Actually, it wasn’t lonely at all. The Outsider wasn’t a pervert, and he had been busy reviewing and looking up information in books recently, so he hadn’t had a single free evening.

“Don’t suddenly have plans tomorrow night. Although my soul is often by your side, I can’t forget my own body. Moreover, on Tuesday, you said you were troubled by that unshot arrow. It’s already Sunday now, and you still haven’t found a suitable way to relieve it. Knight, your Princess wants to help you, so I hope you can cancel any unimportant matters as much as possible.”

She tilted her neck slightly, as if discussing some rigorous academic topic, rather than a strange plot that would only appear in illegal publications.

“Yes, yes.”

Xia De nodded, and Leia finally smiled.

Since it was decided to take advantage of the beginning of the month to go into the city to handle personal matters such as his salary, advertisements, and gas bills, the Princess went to her room in a good mood to choose clothes.

Xia De didn’t need to be picky about clothes when going out, as long as he wasn't cold. So, while waiting for the Golden-haired girl to do her makeup, he took out the two youthful immortality leaves he had just obtained this morning.

The leaves he had before had all been consumed from directly taking the “Divine Punishment Lightning.” And the two brand new leaves represented brand new Knowledge. Xia De eagerly placed the two leaves, one by one, in front of his eyes.

As the leaf veins were dyed golden, and the golden elements flowed into Xia De’s eyes, the Knowledge of the ritual “moonlight water” and the ritual “Sunlight Fire” successfully entered Xia De’s mind.

Compared to the racial Knowledge of elves and Vampires, the information contained in the two rituals was not extensive. Although these two rituals had different names, their functions were extremely similar, both used to obtain a certain special substance.

Ritual: moonlight water. Arrange the ritual at a position higher than the horizon. When the Moonlight at midnight shines on the ritual, a small amount of “moonlight water” can be produced. This is a liquid composed of a mixture of spirit, elements, and other concepts, with a very wide range of uses.

Ritual: Sunlight Fire. Arrange the ritual at a position higher than the horizon. When the midday sun shines on the ritual, a small amount of “Sunlight Fire” can be produced. This is a flame composed of a mixture of spirit, elements, and other concepts, also with a wide range of uses.

It can even be said that “moonlight water,” representing pure moon power, and “Sunlight Fire,” representing pure sun power, can be effective in almost any aspect.

Direct consumption is beneficial for both body and soul. Adding them when preparing potions or making alchemy items can give the finished product some special effects. Even drinking some beforehand when casting spells can, to a certain extent, enhance the power of Ling Runes such as “Moon Night” and “Thunder Sun.”

In the distant ancient epochs, “moonlight water” and “Sunlight Fire” were the highest-grade offerings presented to gods. Those extraordinary individuals and mystics living in ancient times could only extract trace amounts of Moonlight or a faint spark of fire through complex and massive rituals, at the cost of long periods of time.

However, the two rituals provided to Xia De by the Father of Infinite Trees only required some expensive gems to set up. Aside from gems and common materials such as “moon night grass and sun flower,” the rituals themselves did not require particularly precious materials, only Xia De’s blood.

The scale of the rituals limited the output of “water and fire,” and Xia De could only set up each of the two rituals once. In the ritual Knowledge he obtained from the youthful immortality leaf, there were two special runes that needed to be engraved on gems as the core of the rituals.

These two special runes could only be engraved once by Xia De and would then automatically disappear; they were runes blessed by gods from the most ancient times. Therefore, Xia De could not infinitely construct rituals and infinitely obtain these two extremely precious materials; he could only collect them as time passed.
