Chapter 558: "Guro Winston Marriage Contract"

As that fierce voice appeared, a crowbar swung down towards Xia De’s head. But even without the sound reminding her, the crowbar was seized by Iluna, who was walking behind Xia De.

Xia De found the gas lamp switch, then turned around to look, saying helplessly:

“It’s really you, I say, attacking us with a crowbar, who are you looking down on? I thought it would be at least a pistol.”

The one who tried to attack them was Toby Yulian, this result was completely unsurprising.

“I don’t have a gun license, I can’t buy a gun. You guys…”

Mr. Yulian looked at the two in surprise, trying to pull the crowbar out of Iluna’s hand, but instead, Iluna snatched the crowbar away. The seventeen-year-old girl raised her right leg, forcefully bent the iron crowbar, and then casually threw it into the corridor behind her.

Not only was Mr. Yulian frightened, but Xia De was also frightened.

As the crowbar clanged to the ground, Xia De looked into the room. He saw the corpse bride wearing a pure white wedding dress and veil, her two hands clasped together, quietly bathing in the Moonlight from outside by the window.

Perhaps because of her presence, the gas lamp's flame inside flickered constantly, its dimming and brightening perfectly matching Mr. Yulian's mood at the moment.

But the corpse bride’s attire and the corpse itself showed no signs of damage from earlier. Moreover, she just stood there, not launching another attack due to the enemy's appearance.

“Is it being repaired because the injuries are too severe? But why is every repair under the Moon?”

Xia De thought to himself.

“No, no one can disturb my wedding with her! No one!”

Seeing Xia De look at the bride, Mr. Yulian still wanted to pounce, but Xia De’s gun barrel was pressed against his head:

“Three seconds to sit on that chair over there and let us search the room. If you don't make the right choice after three seconds, I'll shoot. Three!”

Mr. Yulian glared at Xia De, his face full of anger, as if his eyeballs were about to fly out, he didn’t move at all.

“Two!”

Xia De also glared at him, while using his left hand to press down the revolver’s hammer. Mr. Yulian was breathing heavily, pressing his forehead against the revolver’s muzzle, stubbornly refusing to move.

“One!”

Xia De’s finger trembled suddenly.

“I surrender!”

Mr. Yulian suddenly raised both hands, he still flinched. With his eyes closed, the man, who was under thirty, seemed to have aged ten years in an instant:

“I surrender.”

He said in a low voice.

Xia De, holding the gun, forced Mr. Yulian to sit on the chair in front of the desk. He controlled the man, allowing Iluna to search the room. The corpse bride stood quietly by the window, Moonlight shining on her, like a motionless humanoid doll.

This time they were very lucky, Mr. Yulian had a good habit of keeping a diary, Xia De really hoped all his enemies would do this.

The diary was under the mattress at the foot of the bed, and besides that, Iluna also found an old book introducing ancient Ghost Marriage funeral customs under the raised floorboards in the corner of the wall.

This was a sensational book published by an illegal publishing house, belonging to publications strictly forbidden by the Orthodox Church.

“He wants to marry her sister?”

This was the first sentence Iluna said in surprise after flipping through the diary. Xia De looked at the man being pointed at by his gun, who painfully covered his face.

Iluna continued to flip through, her brows furrowing even more tightly:

“Wait, it seems it’s not just that. Toby Yulian, your sister’s death is actually related to you?”

Mr. Yulian, who was being pointed at by Xia De’s gun, sat on the stool in the corner, nodding dejectedly:

“I never thought such a thing would happen.”

“Wait, wasn’t Miss Yulian’s suicide because she was abandoned by her lover?”

Xia De was very confused.

“Yes, but why was she abandoned by her lover?”

Iluna snorted:

“Mr. Yulian and Miss Yulian depended on each other, he always had some unspeakable thoughts about his sister…”

“They were just thoughts, I didn’t do anything!”

Mr. Yulian argued loudly, his chest heaving showing how agitated he was.

“Miss Yulian was already preparing to get engaged. Mr. Yulian, upon learning of this, got completely drunk half a month ago, then ran to Miss Yulian’s fiancé’s place to cause trouble, beating him up and causing his right hand to fracture. Miss Yulian’s fiancé, in a fit of rage, refused to see Miss Yulian again, so this poor lady, thinking she was abandoned without reason, hanged herself at home.”

Mr. Yulian’s expression was no longer agitated, he sobbed, covering his face with both hands:

“I, I really didn’t expect it, really didn’t expect it to be like this. It’s all the alcohol’s fault, alcohol is truly harmful.”

Xia De’s mouth twitched:

“Then what happened next? What’s going on with this?”

Xia De then pointed to the corpse bride standing motionless by the window, she maintained an elegant posture standing there, like a solid human doll.

Iluna flipped back a few pages:

“After Miss Yulian’s death, Mr. Yulian was unwilling to accept this result. Because he was interested in mysticism before, after burying his sister, he emptied his savings and inquired about the ‘Underworld Marriage’ ritual from friends who also loved mysticism. This guy actually succeeded in getting an ancient marriage contract from a merchant selling forbidden items, and I think that marriage contract is the cause of this incident. They call that parchment page…”

Iluna turned to the next page:

“The ‘Ancient Rowinston Marriage Contract’.”

Although there was no evidence, Xia De had almost concluded that this was the relic that caused this incident.

Iluna seemed very worried, because Black Stone Security Company had something to do recently. How many people had come into contact with that marriage contract, and where exactly did that thing come from, these were all questions:

“The diary says that by writing one’s name and the name of the loved one at the bottom of that parchment marriage contract, eternal love between the two can be achieved. And if one party is dead and one is alive, then after obtaining the corpse, writing the name with the corpse’s blood can restore the corpse to its original state and bring the deceased back to the world, and then they can be together forever… Really, someone actually does something like this.”

“You actually believe such a thing?”

Xia De asked Mr. Yulian, who sobbed and said:

“Yes, I hired a group of professional corpse thieves to sneak into the cemetery with me and dig out the corpse. After awakening my sister, I found that she could do some things according to my thoughts. So, I had her kill that group of grave robbers. Tonight, I was worried that you would discover something, so… I just wanted to be with her, even if she became like this… Why, why do you have to investigate me?”

Mr. Yulian cried and asked, Xia De frowned and looked at him, the Outsider could not understand this way of thinking, and increasingly felt that this person might really have a mental problem.

“You think this is awakening? Your sister has already left, and you actually want to blasphemy her corpse? Are you sure you really like her?”

Iluna asked Mr. Yulian in disbelief, who painfully covered his face, tears welling up in his eyes:

“I know I shouldn’t disturb the death. But when she was alive, no matter what, I couldn’t marry her, so at least after her death, I can give her a destination. I know we are siblings, but I really tried to cross bloodlines, cross life and death… I didn’t do anything wrong, it was really just because of love. I don’t want to harm anyone, I just… want to be with her, even in this way.”

Upon hearing the word “love,” Iluna’s face showed an expression of disgust:

“Mortals all have a death, and you have blasphemy death. Yulian, don’t make it sound so good, what love? This is clearly to satisfy your own despicable and dirty thoughts.”

She was really angry now, but she still knew to deal with this matter first:

“Detective, I don’t know what kind of relic the ‘Ancient Rowinston Marriage Contract’ is, but based on its known characteristics, it is at least Document-level (Level 4), and most likely Secret Keeper Level (Level 3), the Church needs to recover it.”

“Yes, so, where is the marriage contract?”

Xia De moved the gun barrel against Mr. Yulian’s temple, and the latter sobbed:

“Don’t kill me, the marriage contract is in the basement, soaking in a blood vat. That marriage contract was originally only for the living, to be used for the departed, it must be done this way to permanently open the door between the world of the living and the world of the death, so she can be with me forever. Even if, she seems to not remember me.”

Xia De regarded this as a “containment condition.” Once the marriage contract exhibited its characteristics and connected the living and the death without being contained in this manner, the relic would go out of control.

“Cruel ritual… Do you think what you awakened is still a living person?”

Iluna couldn't help but mock, even when facing Darkness, she had never shown such anger.

After thinking for a moment, she said to Xia De again:

“We can’t kill this madman yet, really, I was going to try what the Poet described earlier… *cough cough*, Detective, the Church still needs him to provide information about the relic’s origin. Moreover, for his own selfish desires, he even colluded with corpse thieves to blasphemy two other corpses; killing him directly would be too easy for him.”

She meant that they couldn't keep this relic. Xia De agreed with this approach, after all, this wasn't his commission:

“I think the Church will make a fair judgment.”

The seventeen-year-old girl showed a slight smile:

“Then you watch him here, I’ll go to the basement first to erase the names on the marriage contract to terminate the relic’s characteristics, then return to the security company to get that Document-level relic 【Beast Tamer’s Memory Eraser】. You’ve worked hard tonight, I’ll treat you to dinner next time, sorry for getting you involved in this kind of thing.”

They couldn't let Toby Yulian tell the Church about Xia De's information.

Xia De nodded, and upon hearing the words “memory erasure,” Mr. Yulian suddenly looked at the two in fear:

“You want to erase my memories.”

“Don’t worry, just tonight’s memories.”

Iluna said, but then added:

“But if there are no accidents, after this matter is over, the Church will erase your memories of the past few years, and then find you a place to live where you don’t have to worry about food and drink. Of course, if they ultimately decide to sentence you to death, it won’t be so troublesome…”

“No!”

The man suddenly shouted, not even flinching despite having the revolver pressed against his head. He glared at Iluna with wide, angry eyes:

“No one can! No one can erase the memories between me and her.”

“This person is beyond saving.”

Iluna said to Xia De, Xia De wanted to nod, but Mr. Yulian suddenly raised his head. Bloodshot eyes spread into his eyes, his condition was a bit off:

“Just kill me now!”

“That won’t do. I think it’s better to leave your judgment to the Church. Besides, you signed the marriage contract, and we can’t guarantee what will happen if we kill you.”

“Well, since you won’t kill me…”

He suddenly rushed towards the corpse bride by the window, Xia De flicked his finger, and silver Moonlight flew out, slicing off half of his right foot. The man, nearly thirty, fell to the ground with a cry of pain.

“Although I won’t kill you, it doesn’t mean I can’t injure you. Sir, I advise you not to move. I’ll treat your wounds, and the Church will give you a fair judgment.”

Xia De walked towards him, shaking an empty test tube from his pocket:

“People always have to pay a price.”

The man, lying prone, struggled to prop himself up with his hands, his face pale from the intense pain, but the distortion of his face was probably not just from physical agony; he was being affected by the relic:

“No one can erase my memories of her!”

Mr. Yulian, surprisingly, pulled a short knife from his pocket, reversed his grip on the handle, and deftly plunged it into his heart.

Xia De quickly took two steps and pulled out the short knife, which further aggravated the injury, and Mr. Yulian’s clothes around his chest were almost instantly stained red:

“A little common sense, even if you stab directly through the heart, a person won’t die instantly. People who do this in stories can at least say ‘the murderer is,’ and then die.”

Xia De bent down and placed his hand on the man’s arm:

“False Immortality.”

The bleeding from his foot and chest, which had been flowing, stopped immediately. Although Mr. Yulian was still severely injured, his condition seemed to be fixed, and it did not worsen.

He looked up at Xia De, who had stood up, with fear and despair, as the light from the gas lamp above cast a shadow over the man on the ground:

“If I don’t let you die, you won’t be able to die.”

He said softly.
