Chapter 627: Cassandra's mission

The third is Death Bringer's Scythe, an active attack Miracle.

This Miracle is extremely similar to Xia De's Moonlight Greatsword, both summoning a spiritual weapon from the void, a weapon composed of elements, existing between solid and non-solid states.

Xia De's Moonlight Greatsword is characterized by extreme sharpness and special damage to evil creatures, while Death Bringer's Scythe hinders wound healing and deals special damage to undead and spectral creatures.

Such Miracles are usually quite valuable because their effects increase significantly with the Ring術士's own level, and they are very likely to chain with other Ling Runes the Ring術士 possesses. If Priest Augustus hadn't been willing to provide it for free, Xia De would have had to pay at least the equivalent of the rescue fee in pounds to even see information about this Miracle.

"This one is very interesting."

Although Xia De already had the Moonlight Greatsword, and he personally preferred sword-type weapons, there was no harm in mastering another weapon. The scythe also fit within the application range of the 【Time-Space】 Blade, and the scythe was clearly longer than the Moonlight Greatsword...

"The learning conditions, besides Ling Runes, also require a near-death experience. That's easy; I've even truly stepped into death. Also, it requires casting materials: a small piece of black cloth. Oh, that's really cheap."

Xia De turned the page:

"Ritual materials: 30 pounds (about 13.6 kg) of black crystal, one dead man's imprint, two deep-sea ghost fish, Claratt special forged steel..."

Besides the black crystal, Xia De hadn't even heard of the other materials. So he skipped directly over the list of 17 types of materials and looked directly at the final estimated price:

"Most materials are difficult to circulate in the market, so pricing is hard to estimate. But if there's a way to get these materials, it would cost at least five figures in pounds?"

Xia De didn't need to count on his fingers to know that "five figures" meant tens of thousands. And since the Outsider came to this world, he hadn't even witnessed transactions in units of "ten thousand pounds."

He picked up the apple cider he had bought for 3 pence and took a small sip:

"Too bad my wallet doesn't allow it. But this Miracle is really good; I can consider learning it later when I have money."

The fourth is Directing Death, an active Miracle, but non-offensive. Learning this Miracle, besides requiring a non-inspiration Ling Rune related to death, also requires any type of Ling Rune related to the moon.

This is a Miracle related to the "Nether Moon" concept mentioned by Sister Devlin.

Using the Miracle would not have any external sound or light effects, and it had two effects.

In combat, its use significantly increased damage to undead and spectral creatures, and when used under Moonlight, the effect would be enhanced.

When facing lingering souls unwilling to depart, using the Miracle allowed one to know the soul's thoughts through touch, and even obtain partial memory fragments. For weaker souls, it could directly guide them to move on, no longer requiring them to come to terms with things and leave on their own, as Xia De had to do with the two ghosts in the cemetery.

This effect was somewhat similar to Sister Devlin's own talent, but the sister only needed to "see" to understand a soul's thoughts, while this Miracle required the soul not to resist and also required physical touch.

"This is very good. Combined with the semi-spiritual effect of Soul Echo, I'll be able to know more when I encounter a corpse in the future."

Xia De pondered, sitting in the corner of the small pub, taking another sip of his drink. This time it was apple cider again, because Middlesburg's apple cider was famous this season, a local specialty:

"Moreover, enhancing damage to spectral creatures, for powerful souls, it's less 'Directing Death' and more 'Forcing death.'"

Not only that, once Soul Echo, Mind Blast, and Directing Death were combined, Xia De couldn't even imagine what interesting effects would occur.

When the fog comes next time, you can try it in the mountains.

"No, no, no, I'm not that curious yet."

Although not as good as Death Bringer's Scythe, this Miracle was indeed good.

Moreover, this Miracle, in a strict sense, could be completely integrated into the Ring術士 power system Xia De had currently established. His current combat was centered on Silver Moon, with Time-Space as an auxiliary. Directing Death successfully connected death with Silver Moon, and it would easily be influenced by other Miracles centered on Silver Moon in the future, even producing evolution phenomena similar to Blood Echo.

Flipping further to the learning conditions and ritual materials, there were no problems either. But Xia De did not plan to gather the materials in Middlesburg. The learning materials included a large amount of undead and corpse materials, and Xia De was somewhat concerned that local corpse materials in Middlesburg might be problematic due to the influence of the Gap.

Anyway, he also had a familiar place in Tobesk. It would be better to go to Mr. Corpus's gravedigger's hut; perhaps he could even offer a discount out of consideration for Dorothy.

Having chosen the Miracle he wanted to learn, Xia De went to the House of the Blind and asked Ms. Michelle to help inform Sister Devlin that he had something important to say.

Thus, Xia De met Sister Devlin again on the third floor of the Cassandra Auction House on Saint Carla Avenue, and Great Witch Grandma Cassandra was naturally also there, as this was her property.

Since Sister Devlin chose this meeting place, she probably didn't mind the Witch hearing the upcoming news. So, Xia De handed them the information Priest Augustus had written.

The Old Witch and the grey-haired sister quietly read the documents, while the auction house maids provided Xia De with tea and snacks. The maids who could appear in such an occasion were all Grandma Cassandra's confidantes, and all of them were Ring術士 with Witch powers.

As the oldest living Great Witch, Grandma Cassandra's followers were clearly of higher quality than Miss Jialinna's followers. Xia De even found that the brown-haired maid who poured him tea was at least a 7th-Ring術士.

"Mr. Hamilton, where did you get this from?"

After a long time, the Old Witch asked.

Xia De shook his head:

"I can guarantee the information is absolutely correct. I think even Miss Jialinna would not inquire about the origin of these documents."

Seeing him bring up Miss Jialinna, Grandma Cassandra did not ask further.

"Sister Devlin, I hope you can convey this information to the Orthodox Church. As for whether you want to get benefits from the Church, I won't interfere."

This was not considered a betrayal of the Church for Priest Augustus. He and Xia De were both followers of Mr. Dawn, while those responsible for the Middlesburg incident were followers of the God of Nature, the Lord of All Things, who were heretics.

"Then, what do you wish to gain from me?"

The grey-haired sister asked, placing the documents on the coffee table in front of her, hands clasped together in her lap. Although she looked only in her twenties, her demeanor was like that of a wise person who had seen through everything.

"You helped me rescue Priest Augustus without asking for any price. I think, as you once said, kindness is a bond, constantly passed on, it will make the world a better place."

Xia De said with a smile, and the sister nodded:

"On the weekend, I will send a special blood to the House of the Blind. Remember to pick it up."

"Alright."

This time Xia De did not refuse.

The information provided by Priest Augustus seemed particularly important to the sister, so she took the documents and left. Xia De had intended to take his leave as well, but Grandma Cassandra stopped him:

"Wait, young man, I have something to discuss with you."

Her expression was exceptionally kind.

"Please speak."

"Don't worry, I just want to ask you, would you like to earn some pounds?"

Xia De, who was very short on money recently, naturally wanted to agree immediately, but still looked at her hesitantly:

"Excuse me, what do you need me to do?"

"Don't worry, it's nothing dangerous. Jialinna once praised you, saying you were a very capable Detective, so I want to entrust you with investigating the whereabouts of an antique at Middirburg Mechanical College. Professor John Dunn, a folklorist, is an old friend of mine. You can go to him first; he will tell you the whole story."

"Folklore?"

Xia De happened to want to visit the local folklore professor to learn about the twin gods worship, so these two things could be done together.

"Is that antique an ordinary item?"

"Yes, otherwise I would have sent my own Ring術士 to do it."

Although Grandma Cassandra was only the twelfth seat of the Witch Council, she, like Miss Jialinna and Miss Aurora, had her own Ring術士 forces.

"No problem."

"Then for the reward, I'll also give you a special blood. Some special bloods aren't actually valuable."

Although Xia De only needed one type of blood for the final ball, and Sister Devlin had already promised to give it. But just as it was beneficial to bring an extra type of blood to the second ball, bringing an extra type of blood to the final ball would likely also be a good thing.

"No problem."

He hadn't decided whether to go into the mountains to find the Demon Hunter's sword or to visit the folklore professor this afternoon, but now he didn't have to consider it.

"However, the twin gods... Although the Old God has departed, perhaps that god's power could solve the problems with Leia and Dorothy."

The blonde Writer and the red-haired princess were not twins in the sense of blood relations, but in Xia De's opinion, even true twins did not have such a close connection as they did.

Thinking of this, Xia De became even more interested in learning about the "twin gods." Even if it didn't help him understand the secrets of Middlesburg, find the third Chosen One, or even find new divinity, being able to help Leia and Dorothy was something Xia De had always wanted to do.
