Chapter 18: Long in the cage

Zhenwu Mountain is located at the junction of Qingzhou and Yunzhou, piercing the clouds like a sharp sword.

After Dragon Mountain Daoist chose to rebuild the True Martial Sect here, he thoroughly cleared the mountain, and although some wild beasts remained, they posed no great threat and could even serve as a means of training for the Disciples.

But what Ning Qi was going to today was the outer mountain range of Zhenwu Mountain, which was more dangerous.

In this world, there are powerful beasts called exotic beasts, and the strong among them can even rival Celestial Beings, capable of moving mountains and summoning rain, and can be called Beast Kings.

Although there were no such exaggerated creatures outside Zhenwu Mountain, for safety's sake, it was better to have a Master accompany them.

The two leaped through the mountain forest.

Ye Qinghe's eyes showed surprise.

She felt that her Junior Brother's movement technique was swift and elegant, and he could completely keep up with her without losing his composure, and although it was partly because she hadn't exerted her full strength, it was still astonishing enough.

"Little Nine, Master has been giving you special lessons again!" Ye Qinghe pouted.

Ning Qi smiled slightly:

"I created it myself. If you want to learn, I can teach you."

Ye Qinghe chuckled, thinking Ning Qi was joking.

The two stopped at the edge of a cliff.

The cliff was so high that its bottom was out of sight, with clouds and mist steaming, and sunlight weaving through them, casting a rainbow of colors.

Ning Qi's eyes lit up. He slowly sat cross-legged under Ye Qinghe's surprised gaze, then watched the clouds roll and unfurl, falling into a trance.

"Clouds are formless and shapeless, gathering with the wind and dispersing with the wind..."

Ye Qinghe watched from the side, puzzled. She tried to observe the clouds in a trance like Ning Qi, but she always felt that they were just ordinary clouds, beautiful but nothing more.

She wanted to ask but was afraid of disturbing Ning Qi.

After a long time.

Ning Qi's body trembled, and he slowly stood up, a glint of inspiration seemingly in his eyes.

Ye Qinghe quickly asked:

"Little Nine, what are you doing?"

"Watching clouds."

"The clouds by the Zhenwu Mountain cliff are much prettier than these, yet you came here to watch."

"There are similarities, and there are differences."

"How come I only see clouds? What's different about them?"

"Your Comprehension Ability is not enough."

Ye Qinghe was instantly choked.

Sometimes, Junior Brother's words were truly infuriating, yet she couldn't refute them.

Watching Ning Qi walk away, she quickly followed.

But immediately, she saw Ning Qi sit down again in front of a strange rock.

The rock was several people high, seemingly in a human shape.

"What is this again?" She smiled bitterly in her heart.

A moment later, Ning Qi got up again, the inspiration in his mind even stronger.

This time, Ye Qinghe didn't ask again. Junior Brother had always been unique.

She just chatted with Ning Qi about other things.

Next.

Ning Qi would stop from time to time to observe.

Be it the clouds between the cliffs, the strangely shaped rocks, the dew on the roots, the wind in the mountains, or even a single leaf, a piece of mud...

To Ye Qinghe, these were ordinary things, but Ning Qi would stop and even sit cross-legged in a trance.

This made her only able to hold her forehead and smile bitterly.

She didn't understand; the world of a Genius was simply incomprehensible.

She knew that Ning Qi was definitely not doing anything meaningless.

And Ning Qi indeed gained a lot.

Long confined in a cage, now returning to nature.

The things here were not much different from the things on Zhenwu Mountain, but the key lay in the state of mind; the change in environment gave Ning Qi a different feeling.

He felt that coming out this time was the right decision.

That supreme standing posture technique had almost taken shape in his mind.

"Little Nine, how about we go see something more interesting?"

After Ning Qi came to his senses, Ye Qinghe asked softly.

Although she felt that Ning Qi was comprehending something, she was also a little worried if Junior Brother had been alone for too long and developed some issues.

Ning Qi came back to his senses, looked at the bored-to-death Ye Qinghe, and smiled:

"Alright!"

A moment later.

Pushing aside the dense leaves, two pairs of eyes peeked out sneakily. What met their gaze were two black snakes furiously intertwined, not fighting, but even more intensely.

Ye Qinghe's forehead was covered in black lines.

"Little Nine, you find this interesting?"

"Of course it's interesting, the origin of life lies here."

Ning Qi was serious, watching intently, falling into a trance again.

Ye Qinghe was helpless.

But at least it was more interesting than watching rocks or something. She occasionally muttered to herself, as if controlling the two snakes from a distance.

A moment later, Ning Qi was satisfied, and the two quietly left.

And then.

Ning Qi seemed to have a thing for beasts.

Ye Qinghe took him through the mountain forest.

They continuously observed the activities of various fierce beasts and even exotic beasts up close.

Tigers roaring in the mountains.

Eagles preying on rabbits.

Ants moving their nests.

Wolf packs hunting.

...

All these things, Ning Qi watched with great interest.

Of course, watching so closely, there were inevitably times when things went wrong.

For example, they once encountered a Bloodhorn Wolf exotic beast, which had the strength to fight a Martial Artist in the Inner Yuan Realm. If Ning Qi had met it alone, he would probably have had to retreat temporarily.

They also encountered a few other exotic beasts of slightly weaker strength a few times.

Fortunately, Ye Qinghe was there.

She easily suppressed them.

Ye Qinghe felt exhausted, but seeing the smile on Ning Qi's small face, her resentment vanished. She just rubbed Ning Qi's cheek hard, almost kissing him. In fact, she used to kiss him when Ning Qi was a baby, but after Ning Qi gained the ability to move, he firmly refused.

This made Ye Qinghe sigh with emotion.

Junior Brother has grown up so fast.

Unconsciously.

The sun was already setting.

Ning Qi looked up, his spirits soaring.

In contrast, Ye Qinghe looked completely drained.

It was simply too boring!

If not for a sip of wine to sustain her, she would have probably given up already.

Ning Qi smiled and said:

"Senior Sister, let's go back."

Today's goal had been achieved, and the gains were immense.

He was confident that within three days, this supreme standing posture technique would be perfected.

He just needed to sort it out once he returned home.

"It seems I'll have to travel around more in the future, to see the natural world, to see the vast Mortal World."

Ye Qinghe's eyes lit up. She flipped up and pulled Ning Qi along.

Ning Qi couldn't help but shake his head and smile, casually drawing a picture for Ye Qinghe.

"Senior Sister, don't worry. When your Junior Brother becomes invincible in the future, I'll search for the world's finest wine for you!"

Ye Qinghe laughed with satisfaction:

"Then Senior Sister will remember that!"

Immediately after.

She paused slightly, her lips slowly curving into a smile, her eyes sparkling.

"I won't think about being the world's best Senior Sister for now. How about you get Senior Sister a pot of monkey wine first?"

Ning Qi also sensed the movement ahead.

That unique howling sound indicated the identity of the newcomer: a Gibbon.

Gibbons have flexible arms, and the monkey wine they brew has a unique flavor. Just thinking about it made Ye Qinghe's lips glisten.

The two stopped in their tracks.

Both were stunned.

They saw the dense jungle leaves part, but instead of the Gibbon they imagined, a snow-white ape appeared. The white ape was only a head taller than Ning Qi, with long arms. Upon seeing Ning Qi and Ye Qinghe, a human-like panic appeared in its eyes.

Ning Qi's eyes showed surprise.

Then.

Several black-furred Gibbons rushed out of the dense forest. Their eyes showed ferocity, and they bared their fangs at the white ape repeatedly. Upon seeing Ning Qi and Ye Qinghe, they showed no restraint either, baring their teeth and looking utterly vicious.

Ye Qinghe crossed her arms, her gaze returning from the white ape. She lazily looked at Ning Qi:

"Little Nine, Senior Sister is tired. How about you go educate these little monkeys?"
