Chapter 4: The torture begins

Paul stood on the stone bridge, looking around, but there were no monsters, not even the slugs that were usually everywhere.

“Look, this dungeon is still as cowardly as ever! See, there’s no danger at all!”

Watching Paul bounce around on the stone bridge, everyone breathed a slight sigh of relief and then stepped onto the bridge one after another.

“Boom~!”

As everyone passed the first pier of the stone bridge, with a loud bang, the bridge collapsed!

And unfortunately, their Captain Paul was not standing at the pier, so everyone could only watch him fall into the bottomless abyss.

“Gulp~” Everyone collectively swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

They huddled together in the center of the pier, shrinking back, fearing that if it collapsed again, they would be the ones to fall.

“I’m not playing anymore! I’m leaving first!”

Before he finished speaking, the ranger in the team crushed a recall stone, turning into a white light, and vanished from the bridge.

Without an azure leaf stone to take his place, dying once could mean losing several levels, and sometimes even a reduction in job qualification.

Although abandoning the team in battle was embarrassing, everyone had been randomly grouped together, so the ranger felt no pressure to run away.

At the same time, the Players on the cliff had seen enough. They were now operating the ballista, aiming at the adventurers on the pier.

Wang Dana was the one shooting, with many years of experience in shooting games. He still had some 'gun sense' in him.

“Whoosh——”

A sound of something cutting through the air came, and a wooden arrow, as thick as a forearm, flew towards the group.

“Not good!” The paladin reacted quickly, immediately raising his greatshield to block.

With a loud “Clang~” the arrow shattered, and the paladin staggered back. This arrow was powerful and heavy; if it had hit a person, it would have been an unimaginable disaster.

Before the paladin could catch his breath, another muffled thud came from the cliff, and another arrow shot out!

The paladin’s face turned green; how could the arrows be loaded so quickly?

“Mage! Slow Fall and Levitate! We have to jump over, otherwise staying here is just being a live target!”

The paladin shouted, and this makeshift team quickly reacted, with Hathaway and the other two also rapidly beginning to cast spells.

Fortunately, the three of them had solid fundamentals. After the paladin blocked three large arrows, the remaining eight people were all covered by two layers of status effects!

“Wait for my countdown, everyone jump together! Three, two, one!”

The paladin activated his ultimate, putting a shield on everyone, then systematically jumped towards the next pier.

And on the cliff, the Players who saw this scene laughed. Do they not understand what it means to shoot down from above, to shoot at idiots?

At the moment of the jump, the Players held back from shooting. Even the paladin thought the other side had quieted down.

As everyone slowly descended in mid-air, an ominous thought instantly surged into the paladin’s mind.

Sure enough, the familiar sound of something cutting through the air struck again!

This time, it was no longer a question of whether his face turned green or not. The paladin cursed loudly: “You motherf*ckers! You motherf*ckers!”

With a crisp “clang!” in mid-air, the paladin, with no leverage, was directly knocked flying by the large arrow. He deviated from his trajectory, cursing as he plunged into the abyss!

It’s hard to imagine what could make a refined and amiable knight curse so unreservedly.

The remaining seven people clung tightly to the side of the mountain, fearing that another arrow would fall from the sky. This time, there was no paladin to help them block damage.

“Let’s… retreat…” The priest stammered, to be honest, her level was the lowest among them, and if she died once, she didn't know how long it would take to level back up.

Everyone remained silent; to retreat like this was simply too embarrassing…

Half an hour later.

Hiding in a small path on the cliff, at the last ledge, the only three remaining people had pale faces. God knows what they had experienced along the way.

It was too sinister, this map was simply too sinister!

Suddenly broken wooden bridges, pushing Yin Corpse hiding in crevices, love at first corner, and suddenly falling giant pendulums.

Each appearance could take away one of their teammates.

Even the mediocre slugs could cause casualties when they rushed forward.

Hathaway’s eyes were filled with despair; she regretted it immensely! Perhaps she really should have learned from Pulman and gone to the Ypsilone World Tree.

Instead of coming to this “weakest” starter village.

“Don’t just stand there, I’ll scout this next section of the wooden bridge!

You, a priest, and you, a mage, still have a chance to clear the small monsters and pass the first stage after reaching Thunder Cliff. Then retreat quickly!”

It was an assassin who spoke. He walked towards the wooden bridge with a determined look, carefully testing it.

He had never been so cautious, but all of this was forced out of him by this damned dungeon.

Here, if you’re not cautious, you die!

The assassin carefully stepped onto the wooden bridge, and only after confirming there was no danger did he step forward.

Just then, a rustling sound came. The assassin looked over, dagger at the ready, and couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

A group of furry creatures with glowing red abdomens quickly crawled towards him.

They were spiders! Just small fries!

Before he could fully relax, the spiders’ abdomens suddenly swelled, and in the assassin’s shocked gaze…

“Boom~~~!”

Not only the assassin, but also Hathaway and the priest hiding behind, were all sent back to revive!

“Oh yeah!”

As the rendered fireworks faded, the five Players at the top of the cliff exclaimed “Woohoo!” and high-fived each other in celebration.

“Easy peasy, easy peasy! I hope the developers add some difficulty!”

“Exactly, exactly! Even the Nine-Fold Water Bottle didn't get a chance to be used by us!”

The few of them chattered, their faces beaming with mischievous smiles of a successful scheme.

Because all the traps along the way were placed by their own hands.

Out of a total of 10 source points, they only spent 8.

The exploding spiders used 1 point, the Yin Corpse also 1 point, and a ballista also 1 point. As for the remaining 5 points, they used them all to install traps.

In addition to those triggered by adventurers, there were also trapdoors, catapults, rolling logs, and so on.

One can only say, as expected of Blue Star Players, who have been deeply poisoned by various terrible maps!

This was their first time playing such a realistic game. Compared to the Abyss, games produced by major companies in the past were simply unwatchable.

“Hey~ I leveled up!” Wang Dana suddenly exclaimed, looking at his character panel.

“Me too!”

The others quickly checked their panels and found that they had also leveled up.

“I’m level 4 now, what about you?”

“Me too!”

Wang Dana scratched his head sheepishly and laughed: “Haha, I seem to be a bit higher than you guys, I’m level 6 now!”

The other four immediately showed expressions of deep regret.

“No way? Why are you two levels higher than us?” Yuān Shēn’s face was full of disbelief, her hand pointing at Wang Dana trembling slightly.

Jiji Yangde stroked his chin, lost in thought. Then he suddenly realized!

Everyone turned their gaze to him, wanting to hear his explanation.

“Do you still remember? That paladin?”

Everyone nodded; only half an hour had passed. They weren’t goldfish, so of course, they hadn’t forgotten.

However, with the hint, the few of them instantly understood. They all turned to look at the giant ballista on the cliff edge, their eyes filled with desire!

The reason was actually very simple: the deaths of the other adventurers were mostly due to traps or other creatures.

Only the paladin was personally shot down by Wang Dana. This counted as an indirect kill, so the experience he gained was naturally higher than the others…

As for Mikelson, at this very moment, he was screaming repeatedly in the World Tree’s core!

He broke even! He broke even! He earned enough in the first battle!

9 adventurers all contributed source points based on their level divided by 2. After some calculations, Mikelson gained a total of 59 World Source points this round.

The paladin, having been killed by a Player, even contributed an additional 5 source points.

He didn't expect Player kills to have extra rewards, even more than simply killing an adventurer. It seems he needs to encourage Players to kill more!

【PS: Normal kills yield 50% of the adventurer's level, indirect Player kills yield 75%, and direct Player kills yield 100%.

High-level adventurers will have additional drops, increasing from 100% to 5000% based on their level.】
