Chapter 12: Yue Jiaxue

“Gong Shaoyu, I’m leaving today no matter what. If you try to stop me again, we’ll both go down!”

Inside a high-end archery range in City X, the atmosphere was tense. A woman with icy cold eyes gripped her bow and arrow, her voice like frost, the arrow aimed directly at the middle-aged man in front of her—whose eyes were clouded with gloom, and whose face bore a coin-sized black mole.

The young woman, Yue Jiaxue, was a training instructor at this archery range, known as an ice beauty. Her single ponytail was neatly tied, and her tight athletic wear perfectly accentuated her slender figure.

She and Yue Jiayu were twin sisters, their appearances like reflections in a mirror. The only way to tell them apart was their temperament: Yue Jiaxue’s was cold as ice, while Yue Jiayu’s was delicate and pitiable.

When the apocalypse descended, she was teaching a theoretical course on compound bows to her students. She personally witnessed over a dozen students inexplicably turn into zombies, roaring and lunging at the other students; blood stained the classroom, and panic instantly spread.

Yue Jiaxue, with her extremely strong psychological fortitude, didn’t panic at the time. Being a thrill-seeker, she had once survived alone in the Amazon rainforest for a month with just a compound bow and dozens of arrows.

She quickly and calmly analyzed the situation. She knew that only a swift evacuation and quickly finding a weapon for self-defense could save her life. Since it was a theory class, there were no extra weapons in the classroom. She decisively rushed out of the classroom, risking it all to head straight for the archery range’s equipment room.

The archery range’s equipment room displayed hundreds of various bows, from traditional longbows to modern compound bows, and tens of thousands of arrows in total.

Yue Jiaxue quickly selected two compound bows, one in her hand and one as a spare on her back; she carried six quivers, each with 12 arrows. She couldn’t carry more, as it would hinder her movement speed.

Initially, she wasn’t sure if what she was seeing were the zombies from movies or an infectious disease similar to rabies, so she dared not shoot indiscriminately and could only try to avoid them.

She picked up weapons primarily for self-preservation. Afterward, she rushed into a convenience store and randomly packed a backpack full of food and water.

She knew that if it really was zombies, food would quickly become a scarce resource.

Being rational, she didn’t run around in a panic. She knew there was an empty, enclosed indoor training field at the training center that was well-sealed. As long as she went in and blocked the door, zombies couldn’t get in. Carrying food and weapons, she rushed to the training room. But she didn’t expect that as she was blocking the training room door, ten surviving instructors also rushed over. Helpless, she could only let them in; not being sure if they were zombies, she couldn’t just leave them to die.

At first, everyone got along harmoniously, but as time passed, food and water gradually became scarce, and a tense atmosphere began to spread in the training room.

Slowly, the food and water in Yue Jiaxue’s backpack became the focus of everyone’s attention. In the chaos, only Yue Jiaxue thought to collect food and water; everyone else was only concerned with escaping and avoiding zombies, not realizing the importance of survival resources.

Even among weapons, only Gong Shaoyu had a longbow and three arrows, which was thanks to him being in a practical training class when the zombie outbreak occurred.

A group of people trapped together, with only one person holding food and unwilling to share—it’s easy to imagine that Yue Jiayu was quickly isolated.

The other 13 people formed a group. Gong Shaoyu, having a weapon, naturally became the leader of this group. On the first day, everyone was still somewhat restrained, with no aggression towards each other; but by night, hunger and fear eroded reason, and everyone’s emotions spiraled out of control.

They began to hurl insults at Yue Jiaxue, and some even suggested snatching her food, but they were wary of the weapon in her hand, so they mostly dared only verbal attacks or pressure under the guise of “righteousness.”

Late at night, someone finally couldn't hold back and tried to steal food while Yue Jiaxue was supposedly asleep. In such an environment, how could Yue Jiaxue truly be asleep? Startled awake, Yue Jiaxue protected her food, not daring to sleep the entire night.

The next day, Yue Jiaxue keenly sensed something was wrong—this was definitely not an infectious disease, but a real zombie crisis! She immediately proposed leaving but was blocked; even when she offered to give up her food just to escape, she was still refused. This was because Gong Shaoyu also realized the apocalypse had arrived, and having fruitlessly pursued Yue Jiaxue, how could he let go of this perfect opportunity.

Gong Shaoyu was thirty-five years old, with a coin-sized black mole on his left cheek. Yue Jiaxue had always detested him—ever since she applied and started working at this archery range, Gong Shaoyu had relentlessly pestered her, even repeatedly harassing her in the workplace.

Yue Jiaxue knew he had a family; how could she agree? Each time, she firmly refused. However, the rejected Gong Shaoyu didn't give up. Instead, he leveraged his position in the range to harass her even more, trying to play workplace power games. Yue Jiaxue complained multiple times to no avail and could only swallow her anger, which only encouraged his recklessness.

Previously, Yue Jiaxue, with her outstanding beauty, attracted a continuous stream of students, and Gong Shaoyu’s workplace tactics had no effect on her.

Yue Jiaxue stuck to her principles, giving Gong Shaoyu’s harassment the cold shoulder and focusing on teaching.

At that time, rumors circulated in the training center that Yue Jiaxue and Gong Shaoyu were involved, but Yue Jiaxue ignored them, knowing full well that Gong Shaoyu was behind it all.

But she didn't expect the rumors to reach Gong Shaoyu’s wife, causing a family dispute.

Gong Shaoyu’s wife, accompanied by a group of people, angrily stormed into the training center, holding banners accusing Yue Jiaxue of being a homewrecker, and publicly confronted her. The scene quickly spiraled out of control.

Yue Jiaxue felt a wave of disgust just thinking about how Gong Shaoyu immediately knelt and cried, falsely accusing Yue Jiaxue of seducing him, the moment he saw his wife arrive at the archery range. In the end, it was the police who arrived and calmed the situation.

After this incident, Gong Shaoyu’s wife divorced him.

After the divorce, Gong Shaoyu turned his resentment towards Yue Jiaxue, believing that she had ruined his family.

Subsequently, rumors that “Yue Jiaxue seduced Gong Shaoyu, leading to his divorce” became rampant, interspersed with malicious gossip that she was kept by multiple sugar daddies and was promiscuous.

Yue Jiaxue knew perfectly well that it was all Gong Shaoyu’s revenge. Because at the Public Security Bureau, Gong Shaoyu had signed a guarantee promising not to pursue or harass Yue Jiaxue again, he dared not pursue her directly and could only find other ways to disgust her.

The incident with Gong Shaoyu’s wife at the archery range had caused such a huge commotion that the management had to deal with it seriously. The investigation ultimately determined that Gong Shaoyu was entirely at fault, but he was a long-time employee and shamelessly refused to resign voluntarily. The archery range management also found it difficult to forcibly dismiss him.

Yue Jiaxue, with her exceptional beauty, attracted a large number of students to the archery range, and the management was equally unwilling to let her go. After weighing their options, the management decided to separate the two into different areas, trying to avoid contact as much as possible. Yue Jiaxue originally thought the storm had passed and she could finally work in peace, never expecting the apocalypse to suddenly descend, trapping her with Gong Shaoyu once again.
