Chapter 14: Exorcism Talisman

As they were talking, they arrived at another department - the weapon refining group.

The Refining Group, part of the Props Department, primarily uses supernatural powers to refine items, such as talismans, pills, treasures, flying swords, and the aforementioned storage devices. These are primarily used by those with supernatural powers within the group.

Under the prop department, there is also an equipment group, which is the same one that Mr. Qian had just disliked. It is the scientific research equipment department. It mainly develops and produces some scientific and technological products, such as laser guns, wireless communicators, and the anesthesia watch worn by John Woo, camera glasses, etc.

However, the equipment group has recently been engaged in innovative integration, thinking of combining the things of the refining group with high-tech products to develop some new technological and special products.

The weapon refining team was quite interested. Perhaps because they belonged to the same R&D department, they cooperated very well and successfully developed products such as the Talisman Gun. Although it was not very practical, it was a successful product after all.

But Mr. Qian felt that it was out of place and was full of disgust towards the equipment team.

In Lin Fan's case, the technology-related departments have nothing to do with her, she just needs to be taken to the supernatural department.

Over the years, each department had developed a set of special ability assessment procedures to quickly assess new recruits' special abilities. With just one pass, it became clear what special abilities a recruit possessed, and those without any special abilities were naturally ordinary people.

Those who could be brought back to the Special Affairs Office were carefully investigated, researched, and screened by the Special Agents. In the end, none of them passed the test as ordinary people. It was just that some of the special abilities were so useless that they had to be sent back.

The Special Affairs Office is very confident in this identification process, and so is John Woo.

The decoration styles of the Refining Department and the Immortal Cultivation Department were somewhat similar, both possessing a somewhat antique feel, perhaps due to the types of business they were conducting. Compared to the Immortal Cultivation Department, the Refining Department had many more computers on its desks. While walking through the center, Lin Fan spotted someone looking at a talisman on a computer...

Is that a talisman? Although it's not yellow paper with red characters, the pattern of the talisman is similar to what she has seen in movies.

"I thought drawing talismans was all done by referring to those tattered ancient books, but it turns out that I can also read them on the computer." Lin Fan sighed.

Wu Yusen listened and explained, "The computers here are only connected to the intranet, and all the information is in the database. The content in the database is also left by our predecessors. After all, as you said, those books are in tatters and difficult to preserve."

"Are all your computers only connected to the intranet?"

"Regular work areas are only connected to the intranet. Connection to the extranet requires an application. However, special services and certain departments whose work requires it are allowed to connect to the extranet. Some department heads' computers are also connected to the extranet. Computers in the living area are also connected to the extranet. However, both computers and phones are under 24-hour monitoring and surveillance, primarily to prevent leaks. As long as it doesn't involve leaks, it's fine."

Lin Fan's initial reaction was a bit of disgust, but after thinking about it, she could understand. She knew that some military organizations also required phone monitoring and closed management.

The Special Affairs Office wasn't completely closed off; many people simply felt the difference between underground and aboveground was the same, and so they didn't want to go out. If the news of Lin Fan's visit to the Immortal Cultivation Department leaked outside, it would cause a huge uproar in society. Not to mention that the Special Affairs Office was comprised of far more than just one Immortal Cultivation Department.

"So, working at the Special Affairs Office, the first rule is confidentiality," Wu emphasized. "Everything is conducted under the premise of confidentiality. Only by adhering to confidentiality regulations can the work we do be meaningful. Otherwise, even the greatest achievements will be negated, and you may even be held accountable. Newcomers should be particularly aware of this."

"Hey, Brother Wu, are you here to train new people?" a man said.

"No, we're still going through the process. Is Team Leader Quan here?" The leader of the weapon refining team was Quan Yingdong, slightly younger than John Woo. He had just been promoted to team leader, so they didn't have much of a relationship, so calling him team leader was the most appropriate title.

"Yes. He just left. You guys go to his office and wait, I'll go find him." The man said enthusiastically.

After thanking him, Wu Yusen led Lin Fan to the office of the team leader.

The office door was open, and indeed, no one was inside. Compared to the empty office of Sister Xu from Sales Team 4, the team leader's office was quite crowded and messy.

The desk, bookshelf, coffee table, sofa, everywhere was filled with things. There were books, papers, scrolls, cloth, stones, iron blocks... There were also a few shovels and hoes standing in the corner of the room...

How can it be described with just one word: chaos.

The two of them didn't know what to do at the office door, so they just stood outside and waited.

"It turns out it's not like this here. It might be because Team Leader Quan just took over the equipment refining group and was a little busy and didn't have time to tidy up." Perhaps because he was afraid of leaving a bad impression on Lin Fan, John Woo made a special explanation.

At this moment, a bearded man hurried over from a distance. When he saw Wu Yusen and the other man standing at the door, he began to apologize from a distance: "Sorry, sorry."

Perhaps because he was not familiar with John Woo, or perhaps because of his personality, Quan Yingdong was particularly polite.

He rushed into the office, casually pushed the things piled on the sofa and coffee table to the side, leaving two seats free, and hurriedly invited the two people in. He also shouted outside to have someone pour tea.

Wu Yusen hadn't expected Quan Yingdong to act this way. He was just thinking about whether to find another excuse to explain to Lin Fan when he saw her walk in and sit on the sofa. It made sense. Lin Fan had been standing the entire time after visiting two departments. She must be exhausted by now.

He sighed and walked in and sat down, not wanting to worry about anything anymore.

Soon the tea arrived, and Quan Yingdong cleared the things from his desk onto the floor beside it. Smoothing his messy hair, he sat down in his office chair and said, "I'm sorry, I've been busy lately and haven't had time to clean up. Please forgive me."

Wu Yusen exchanged a few polite words with him and then got down to business: "I just went to Sister Xu's place. She didn't take the talisman. Are you going to take it?"

Earlier, when they were chatting in the car, Wu Yusen suspected that there was another person inside Lin Fan's body, but he didn't dare to tell Lin Fan. He was afraid that the person inside might sense the outside world and do something uncontrollable if he knew he was exposed.

There are generally two possibilities for this dual soul situation. One is supernatural. Simply put, it can be described as "possession by a ghost." It doesn't necessarily have to be a ghost; it could be a spirit or a demon.

In short, there was another spirit in Lin Fan, controlling her body when she was unconscious.

Another possibility is psychological. Lin Fan has a dual personality, and she's unaware of the emergence of her other personality. Given her long-standing mental illness and the pain she's endured, this possibility is also very high.

So early this morning, Wu Yusen took Lin Fan to Business Department 4 to let Sister Xu take a look. He didn't dare tell Lin Fan that this department was also known as the Supernatural Department.

Sister Xu has the ability to see ghosts and gossips.

If Lin Fan was possessed by a spirit, she would be able to see through it at a glance.

Later, in order to confirm whether Lin Fan had any supernatural abilities, whether he could sense or see ghosts, Sister Xu summoned many spirits to circle around Lin Fan.

When Lin Fan said she felt a bit cold, Sister Xu assumed she had a special sensitivity to spirits and ordered them to intensify their interference. Normally, people with this sensitivity would be able to vaguely see or hear things, but Lin Fan didn't; she just felt cold.

Sister Xu ultimately concluded that Lin Fan had a sensitive constitution and could faintly sense the presence of spirits, but he did not have any related abilities.

According to procedure, Sister Xu should have offered a spirit-dispelling talisman to Lin Fan to ensure that there were no other spirits on him, but she didn't. Instead, they were allowed to leave. Wu Yusen guessed that there might be some reason for putting them in the refining group to apply the talisman, so he didn't ask any more questions.

Later, I went to the Immortal Cultivation Department. It was assumed that no demon or monster could escape Master Qian's piercing eyes, and the possibility of other spirits in my body had been largely eliminated. However, nothing could be guaranteed, and the procedures still needed to be completed, so I asked right away.

Talismans are created by a talisman master who senses the laws of heaven and earth, extracts energy, and then draws patterns on them, storing the energy within them. Thus, they contain the power of laws. Finally, they are slapped with the fingertips to detonate, hence the process of using a talisman, also known as slapping the talisman.

There are many types of talismans. Having supernatural powers does not necessarily mean you can use talismans. Due to the limitations of each person's supernatural powers, the talismans they can use are also limited.

For example, a person with supernatural powers like Sister Xu can only take pictures of supernatural talismans, but she cannot take pictures of rain-praying talismans or the like.

Of course, a big shot like Mr. Qian has no taboos.

It is said that a long time ago, anyone with special abilities could make talismans, and there were no specific categories.

It may be that over a long period of time, many supernatural power inheritances have been lost, and some talismans have also been lost. Many of the current talismans have been repaired and adjusted, so there are many deviations.

As the maker of talismans, the talisman master can make any talisman, but the effect is slightly worse than that of the psychics of the same level.

"Yes, I'll take the talisman." Quan Yingdong replied, "Sister Xu worked a big job last night and was busy all night. She was exhausted and just used up all the talismans to drive away evil spirits. She called me this morning and asked me to help her take a talisman. It doesn't make any difference anyway."

John Woo nodded in agreement.

After hearing this, Lin Fan finally understood why Sister Xu was so depressed.

Quan Yingdong searched several pockets and finally found a crumpled yellow paper ball. He seemed a little embarrassed, quietly flattening it on the table and wiping it vigorously. However, it didn't improve much. Perhaps due to the age, the paper still hadn't formed and was limp. Fortunately, it didn't tear.

Quan Yingdong carefully walked towards Lin Fan holding the talisman. When he was almost there, he turned around and closed the office door before coming back.

"Can your talisman still stand upright?" John Woo didn't know how to use talismans, but he knew that the talisman had to stand upright before it could be filmed. This talisman was crumpled like toilet paper and it was trembling even when it was flattened. It seemed that it could not stand upright at all.

"We can stand up, we can stand up." Quan Yingdong assured hurriedly.

Lin Fan took the opportunity to take a look at the talisman. She couldn't understand what was drawn on it, but she felt that the middle part looked a bit like the word "Gang".

"Do you want to take a look at it?" Quan Yingdong asked when he saw that she was looking at it seriously.

Is that possible? Lin Fan was surprised.

"Sure, take it in your hand and take a closer look." Quan Yingdong handed it over with a smile.

The original process in the refining group was to sense the rules. Usually, they would use the refined instruments to sense the newcomers. If they could understand some of the rules, they would be considered to have talent for refining. Using talismans was also acceptable.

First, he would give the talisman to the person for sensing, and then complete the process of the equipment refining group. Then he would take a picture and help Sister Xu complete the process, killing two birds with one stone.

Wu Yusen knew that Lin Fan had no spiritual roots and would definitely not be able to sense anything, but there was no harm in taking a look, so he did not stop him.

Lin Fan gently took the talisman, looked at it carefully, and couldn't figure out what it was, so he returned it to Quan Yingdong.

Quan Yingdong didn't say anything when he saw that Lin Fan had no talent for refining weapons. He smiled and asked, "Are you ready?"

What are you preparing for? Lin Fan was stunned.

Quan Yingdong raised the talisman in his hand, his smiling eyes instantly becoming unusually serious. He placed his index and middle fingers together and pointed them in front of his eyes. The flying talisman swished onto his middle finger, and the wrinkled talisman paper was now as crisp as new.

He twisted his wrist slightly, pushed the talisman forward, and shouted "Go!". The talisman rushed towards Lin Fan with the momentum of thousands of troops.

Lin Fan was startled and couldn't dodge in time. The talisman had already stuck to his chest and suddenly caught fire with a "boom". Before Lin Fan could reach out to hit it, it burned out in the blink of an eye, without even a trace of ash.
