Chapter 15: Another white-haired man

Lin Fan was startled.

But somehow, the feeling of panic didn't reach the bottom of my heart and dissipated. Unlike before, it always lingered for a long time and took a lot of time to slowly fade away.

She touched her earlobe and subconsciously thought it was the effect of the earring.

"See, there's no problem." Quan Yingdong said to John Woo with a smile again.

Wu Yusen nodded and said, "Send your confirmation to me later."

Qian always didn't use these electronic devices, so he wrote them for him. Confirmations from other departments were immediately sent to his tablet, where they were then consolidated and processed. Sister Xu's confirmation had already arrived.

"Wait, I'll write it now." Quan Yingdong returned to his desk, turned on his computer, and found that his keyboard was missing. He searched among the scattered items on the floor and quickly pulled out the keyboard.

"Is it normal after all this burning?" Lin Fan asked curiously.

"It's normal to burn," John Woo explained.

"What's abnormal about that?"

"That's not normal. It's not as easy as you are." Quan Yingdong managed to chat while typing. "This talisman contains the law of the Heavenly Gang and has an extremely yang energy. No matter how powerful the spirit is, it will feel the pain of burning flames and reveal itself."

Lin Fan found this strange and asked, "What is this test for?"

"A talisman to exorcise spirits. Used to test if there are other spirits in your body." Quan Yingdong replied.

"Other spirits?"

"Is there any demon or ghost possessing me..."

"Have you finished writing?" John Woo interrupted.

Quan Yingdong understood the intention to stop him, and quickly shut up and concentrated on typing.

"Do we need to test for possession?" Lin Fan felt something was wrong.

"Uh-huh," Wu Yusen lied after clearing his throat, "It's all normal testing procedures."

Quan Yingdong knew that the normal process didn't require a photo smear, so Wu Yusen must have sensed something was amiss and specifically requested one. But since they were trying to keep it a secret, he didn't need to say anything. He typed away quickly and sent out the confirmation report.

"Okay. Take a look." He had just taken office and had no business dealings with other departments. Since it was his first contact, it would be better to confirm some things in person.

Wu Yusen opened the tablet and checked it to confirm that everything was fine. "Okay, we'll be leaving first. Thank you for your hard work."

"You're welcome," Quan Yingdong said as he walked them to the door. "Come and visit us when you have time."

When I arrived, there were still quite a few people in the office area outside, but now there was no one left. Wu Yusen looked at his watch and it was already past 12 o'clock.

The two went to the cafeteria to find something to eat.

Lin Fan, who came for the third time, was a little more familiar with the place and did not bother John Woo anymore. He bought some food for himself.

After dinner, John Woo took Lin Fan back to the office to rest.

Lin Fan knew there weren't many projects left. He'd hoped to finish them quickly and head home sooner rather than later, but he was feeling tired. It was lunchtime, and no one else was working, so he had to suppress his anxiety and close his eyes to rest.

In the summer, the office didn't open until 2:30 p.m. For employees, a long lunch break was a welcome relief. But for Lin Fan, who was waiting, it felt like a significant waste of time.

Finally, it was time to go to work, and she almost jumped up from the sofa. Wu Yusen saw Lin Fan's urgency, but didn't say anything, just speeding up the following process.

The remaining sections went by very quickly. Each section produced an object, had Lin Fan hold it, sense it, and describe his feelings. That was it. Lin Fan was no longer curious about what they were; he just wanted to finish quickly and get home.

Finally, at around 4 o'clock, all the supernatural power tests were completed.

John Woo frowned as he looked at the report that stated nothing but "no special abilities".

The physical examination report from this morning came out. Everything was normal, with only a few indicators showing sub-health.

All this proves that Lin Fan is an ordinary person.

This is impossible!

The pain and abnormalities that Lin Fan described indicated that she could not just be in sub-health.

Unless Lin Fan is lying!

"What's wrong?" Lin Fan asked, seeing Wu Yusen's grim expression.

"Nothing. Are you tired? Do you want to rest for a while?"

Lin Fan didn't ask any more questions. After all, if even John Woo found it difficult, then she would be even more helpless.

“How many more tests are there?”

"The basic physical examination and ability test are complete, and the last psychological test remains."

The possibility of supernatural factors has been ruled out, so the only possibility left is psychological factors.

John Woo sighed secretly. If it was really as he thought, the situation would be terrible.

When Lin Fan heard there was only one test, a familiar psychological one, he felt a lot more relieved. "So, I can go home tonight?"

"Are you in a hurry to go back?"

"If everything is over, it's better to go back early. After all, I feel more comfortable at home."

Thinking that Lin Fan had always been very sensitive to outside influences, Wu Yusen readily reassured her and said, "As long as the test today confirms that you are not the person we are looking for, I will send you back no matter how late it is."

Lin Fan heaved a sigh of relief after receiving the assurance and urged, "Then let's go."

Seeing that she was in good mental state, John Woo didn't try to persuade her much and took Lin Fan to see a psychologist.

The special affairs department has a specialized psychological team, and the professional level of the psychologists who can work in this team are among the best in the country.

The best among them was Jin Sichen. He was young and had excellent professional skills, ranking among the top five in the world. His hypnotic abilities were particularly remarkable. Even a powerful figure like Mr. Qian nearly fell for his tricks.

There were once a few ignorant newcomers who didn't believe him and accidentally offended him. They didn't know when they were hypnotized. The subsequent social death made them want to hide when they heard Jin Sichen's name.

There was also a legend that his eyes were like those of Medusa, and that a single glance could hypnotize someone, or even kill them if he chose. Somehow, the nickname "Special Medusa" spread.

Fortunately, Jin Sichen always wears a pair of brown sunglasses, which obscure his eyes and allow people to look directly at his face without hindering communication. And the fact that he never takes off his sunglasses even in the dark undoubtedly adds credibility to the rumors.

Although Jin Sichen is very capable, he is not very proactive at work. He usually only works on people and things that interest him, and ordinary work cannot motivate him.

Any psychologist can take over the newcomer's process.

I don't know if it was because he was confident in Lin Fan's ability and felt that Jin Sichen's help would dig deeper, or because he sympathized with Lin Fan's condition and hoped that Jin Sichen could give her better recovery advice after seeing her, or maybe the psychologist he promised to Lin Fan was Jin Sichen.

In short, John Woo applied to the director to have Jin Sichen be responsible for Lin Fan's psychological test, and Jin Sichen agreed.

The psychologist's office is different from other places. The colors and layout are softer, which makes people feel relaxed.

John Woo knocked on Jin Sichen's office door, but heard no response. When he was about to knock for the second time, the door opened.

Lin Fan saw a short-haired man standing in the door.

He was quite tall, and Lin Fan had to tilt his head slightly to see his face. His skin was fair, and his eyebrows and eyes were hidden by brown sunglasses, only the outline of his face could be seen faintly. His nose was straight, and his lips were a little thin, with a slight smile. His hair was short, silver-white, and stood up on his head. The style was messy, and it seemed that he had been carefully groomed.

She wore a stylish floral print shirt, beige trousers with the hems rolled up, and a pair of light blue soft leather loafers. From head to toe, she was full of fashion, and very trendy.

If John Woo's outfit reminds people of a real estate agent, then this one reminds people of a tasteful fashion practitioner.

Although Lin Fan felt that the smile was a bit fake, he could not deny that this handsome guy was pleasing to the eye.

"Doctor Jin." John Woo greeted.

Jin Sichen smiled and invited the two in.

A well-placed smile can bring many benefits, such as reducing a patient's nervousness or lowering an opponent's vigilance.

Despite his frightening nickname, "Medusa," everyone who met him said he had a kind personality and always had a gentle smile. Few knew that his smile, like his sunglasses, was just an accessory.

Lin Fan could sense it, and could only say that she was extremely sensitive to emotions.

Jin Sichen asked Lin Fan to sit on the sofa, and he sat on the chair opposite. At his suggestion, John Woo sat on the single sofa chair next to the sofa, some distance away from Lin Fan.

"Hello Lin Fan, I'm Jin Sichen." Jin Sichen gave Lin Fan a glass of water. He had obtained Lin Fan's file and studied it a long time ago, so he was not unfamiliar with her.

"Hello," Lin Fan replied politely. She felt that Jin Sichen was somewhat different from the psychiatrists she had seen before, but she couldn't put her finger on what exactly.

"I will now conduct some psychological inquiries and tests on you. This will involve some of your personal privacy. As a doctor, I will abide by my duties and keep it confidential for you. This special agent is your protector, and according to the newcomer testing process, he needs to be present. But if you don't want him to be present, I can ask him to leave immediately." Jin Sichen has already begun to test.

"No need." Lin Fan didn't care. Privacy made no difference whether it was shared with one person or two. Besides, she didn't feel like she had any privacy anymore—the Special Affairs Office had already thoroughly investigated her, so how could she have any privacy left?

And according to her observation, the test results will eventually be summarized on the tablet in John Woo's hand. If she doesn't let him read it now, he will still see it later. Why bother?

Jin Sichen smiled and nodded: "Then let's just chat casually. If what I say makes you feel uncomfortable, or if you have something to say, don't worry, interrupt me at any time." Then he opened the folder, started the recorder, and started working.

"Are you aware of your own mental state?"

"Clear. I have depression."

"We've retrieved your medical records and saw that the initial diagnosis was: 'Unable to get over the pain of a broken heart.' Is this diagnosis true?"

Jin Sichen knew that psychology was not well developed in China, and public acceptance had only increased in recent years.

It's a bit better in big cities, where information technology can keep up. But in small cities, it's harder to say, as misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis are common. Seeing that Lin Fan was seeking medical treatment in a small city, it was normal for him to doubt the original diagnosis.

Lin Fan still didn't know what was written in her medical records. When she went to see the doctor, she was already speechless and confused, not understanding anything. Her mother was doing all the talking.

In the mental hospital where they are, medical records are not allowed to be taken away.

The medical record comes with a removable secondary card with a number written on it. Every time you register with a secondary card, someone will retrieve the medical record with the same number. After the visit, the medical record is left with the doctor, and the patient only uses the secondary card to pay and pick up medication.

After she got better, she tried to look at what was written in the medical record, but she couldn't recognize the words, so she just let it go.
