Chapter 20: Expanding the Chakra Field

Yamanaka Shin was surprised by this speed.

He moved the object seven meters away, and the same thing happened again.

This greatly surprised Yamanaka Shin, who thought to himself.

“Hmm, this is quite astonishing. While the average Yamanaka Clan member perceives objects on the seventh day, it still takes some time to perceive them after they're moved, mostly by the eighth day, and some even by the ninth. He must be more talented than I imagined.”

Feng Zheng’s thoughts were:

“Although it does take a long time to detect, increasing the distance doesn't make detection difficult. The principle is the same; as long as the object is within my Chakra Field, it can be detected quickly. I think the next training will be to expand the size of my Chakra Field.”

He sighed slightly, thinking.

“I hope the next training isn’t as boring as this one.”

After the training ended, Yamanaka Shin said to Feng Zheng.

“Good, your progress is faster than I expected. For the next four days, you can practice at home so you can become more familiar with sensing Chakra within your Chakra Field. I'm going out on a mission, so I won't see you during this time. When I return, I will begin training to expand the range of your Chakra Field.”

After thanking him, Feng Zheng left.

The next few months proceeded in a similar fashion.

Training to expand the Chakra Field involved longer periods of Meditation.

He had to focus on one point and try to expand the range in that direction. Feng Zheng thought to himself.

“This takes a long time! During the holidays, I should train diligently with my eyes open instead of blindfolded. This way, I can also do this training in class. Otherwise, once school reopens, there will be no way to continue this kind of training.”

During the holidays, he continued to exercise, achieving excellent results with the help of Sealing Jutsu.

He also trained extensively in Substitution Technique.

His goal was to reduce the time required to perform the Jutsu and reduce the number of Hand Seals needed from five to zero.

Although he made no progress in reducing the number of Hand Seals, he was able to perform it faster, completing it in less than a second.

Due to a lack of measuring tools, he was unsure of the exact time.

For Clone Technique, he was able to create three clones, which, if he remembered correctly, was the requirement for the Genin graduation exam.

Transformation Technique also progressed smoothly; when he transformed and wandered the streets, no one noticed anything unusual about him.

However, he had not yet tested it on people who knew him.

As for Chakra control, he was already able to run freely on water.

So he reduced the practice time for this item, practicing only twice a week instead of daily.

Although he had some ideas to further improve his Chakra control, he decided to try them later so he could focus more on Ninjutsu.

Training in Wind Release nature transformation slowed down, as Feng Zheng felt he had trained enough. He thought to himself.

“Being able to cut stone is probably the same as being able to cut a waterfall.”

Now, even on metal, he could leave small scratches on the surface.

As for Earth Release training, he bought more clay for shaping and also brought home a small stone a few centimeters in size to try crushing after he got bored with perception training.

As for Sensor Ninja training, after teaching Feng Zheng how to expand the radius of his Chakra Field, meetings with Yamanaka Shin were reduced to twice a week.

By the end of the holidays, Feng Zheng could instantly sense Chakra as soon as someone entered his Chakra Field, unless that person concealed their Chakra.

But he had to concentrate to do this.

If he didn't concentrate, he couldn't sense anyone's Chakra.

However, he discovered that he could passively sense Chakra within 0.6 meters around him without needing to concentrate.

Yamanaka Shin stated that this was an ability every Sensor Ninja developed over time.

This was very important because it didn't require concentration, and Sensor Ninja could perform other tasks simultaneously.

His Chakra Field radius expanded to more than four times its original size, reaching just over thirty meters.

Yamanaka Shin was impressed by his rate of progress.

He also taught Feng Zheng how to measure the Chakra levels of Ninja within his Chakra Field.

He explained the utility of this ability in identifying threat levels.

At the same time, he also explained not to rely entirely on it, as the amount of Chakra could also be hidden.

He demonstrated to Feng Zheng how to reduce the amount of Chakra others could perceive, or even hide it completely, appearing as an ordinary civilian.

Yamanaka Shin also taught Feng Zheng the same skill.

Feng Zheng had some success in completely hiding his Chakra, though it wasn't yet perfect.

However, it was very difficult to lower his Chakra level and give the impression of a lower Chakra level, as his Chakra fluctuations were significant.

On the other hand, Feng Zheng was able to sense Chakra without restricting any senses, without using Hand Seals, and even while moving.

However, without Hand Seals, the radius of the Chakra Field shrank to about twenty-five meters.

And while moving, it further shrank to only seventeen meters.

This indicated that he still needed a lot of training.

On the last day of the holidays, Yamanaka Shin said.

“You have made a lot of progress. With more training in the future, you will easily become an excellent Sensor Ninja. Keep up the good work. We don't have any more training sessions, but if you need to consult anything, you can always find me.”

Feng Zheng thanked him for his guidance over the past two months and took his leave.

He also returned the Chakra items he had borrowed.

Feng Zheng was truly grateful to him.

Although Feng Zheng's abilities as a Sensor Ninja were still poor, Yamanaka Shin had instilled all the foundational knowledge of a Sensor Ninja in him over the past two months.

Now he just needed to put in more effort to become a decent Sensor Ninja.

The new school year finally began.

Genshu was their homeroom teacher again.

Feng Zheng guessed that he would likely remain their homeroom teacher until they became Genin.

The new year began with more indoctrination classes.

Feng Zheng didn't want to waste time; he reused a technique he had mastered in his previous life—the art of multitasking in class.

He shifted his attention to his Chakra Field.

His plan was to focus on expanding the radius of his Chakra Field.

After sensing other people, he decided to first compare everyone's Chakra levels.

After observing everyone's Chakra levels, he concluded.

“Wow, so my Chakra reserves are this high now! The efforts of the past year and a half have indeed yielded fruitful results. I'm glad to finally see the outcome of my hard work.”

As for the others, Feng Zheng noticed.

The average Chakra levels of civilian students and students from the Nara, Yamanaka, Kato, Hatake, Sarutobi, and Kurama Clans were lower than everyone else's.
