Chapter 24: Learning Shadow Clone

After seeing the results, Genshu pondered.

“Hmm, this is very similar to last year. The only difference is that Feng Zheng didn’t get a huge lead in the Leaf Concentration competition, but rather in the written exam. How much did this child study? The last 20 points are very difficult to obtain. As for the others, Senju Teru had the best overall performance. Besides the written exam, he was in the top three in every other test.”

“The Leaf Concentration competition was still dominated by Feng Zheng. But seeing the performance of the others, I can start Tree Walking training next year. In the Shuriken throwing competition, Uchiha Rai stood out. Similarly, in the Taijutsu competition, Hyuga Hodaka performed exceptionally well. Although that Sealing Jutsu did help Feng Zheng a lot, he still couldn't defeat Hodaka. I should suggest that Senju Teru’s parents also apply a Sealing Jutsu for him, it would help him greatly.”

“In the Ninjutsu competition, Senju Teru, Uchiha Rai, and Shimura Shin were all excellent. It's just that Senju Teru had more Chakra than the other two. And I’m quite sure they should have mastered more Ninjutsu.”

“This class performed exceptionally well. The students ranked 8th-12th were also very good. The Third Hokage should be very satisfied with their performance.”

After finishing his thoughts, he announced the results.

Upon seeing the scores, everyone reacted differently.

Since the exam scoring was designed to highlight outstanding students, those who didn't work hard received very low scores.

A few people still struggled to hit a stationary target board with a Shuriken, so they couldn't do much in the remaining three rounds.

There were also some who hadn't even learned a single Ninjutsu.

Moreover, most people hadn't learned all 3 Ninjutsu. Only 12 students managed to do so.

The written exam was also very difficult. The last 20 points were extremely hard to get, and even the preceding 20 points were very challenging.

Feng Zheng noticed the dejected expressions of the students with poor grades. This made him think about how bad the lives of the children here were compared to his previous world.

But even so, these were considered very good conditions. At least they didn't have to participate in wars.

Among the top students, Uchiha Rai thought dejectedly.

“Why am I still only ranked fifth! However, at least I’ve shown everyone how excellent the Uchiha Clan’s Shuriken techniques are. But it’s still not enough!”

Hyuga Hana was very sad, with tears almost welling up in her eyes. She was very upset about her ranking dropping from second to fourth.

However, Shimura Shin didn't show any emotion, but he was inwardly disappointed for not getting first place.

Senju Teru sighed as he looked at the results, thinking.

“Last year it was the Leaf Concentration competition, this time it’s the written exam! It's really unlucky not to get first place due to the written exam. But at least I'm the best in practical skills. Not to mention, the exam didn't test my Good at Water Release Ninjutsu.”

Feng Zheng looked at the results with a happy expression. His thoughts were.

“Haha, everything is as expected. But what surprised me is that some people scored over 80 points on the written exam. I guess the children here develop their brains faster. My Shuriken still needs some training, but it’s fine.”

“In Taijutsu, I don’t think I can surpass Hyuga Hodaka unless he slacks off. In Ninjutsu, I’m on par with Senju Teru and others. Oh well, if I wanted to, I could create 8 Shadow Clones to lower their scores, but there’s no need. So everything is going smoothly. Next, I should focus on elemental Ninjutsu.”

However, he frowned again, thinking to himself.

“However, with the children performing so well in this exam, I'm worried they might make some of us graduate early! I’m glad Genshu hasn’t started teaching all the other important things yet. I guess his plan is to let everyone learn Ninjutsu and combat skills first, so they can continuously improve in the coming years. But at his pace, I'm still curious if he wants us to graduate early or teach us more complex things.”

Genshu looked at the expressions of all the students and sighed.

He noticed that only Feng Zheng showed a happy expression, Shimura Shin was as expressionless as ever, and Senju Teru just looked a little down. Almost everyone else was very sad.

He sighed.

“I’m glad that the current grading system is more favorable to geniuses. Last year’s results made them more competitive, but this year’s results might have an adverse effect. I need to talk to everyone individually, comfort them, cheer them up, and let them use these exam results as motivation for future efforts.”

Then he glanced at the Inuzuka family's child, thinking.

“I should also contact their parents.”

The exam ended with another brainwashing speech from Hiruzen.

He called Feng Zheng forward and asked him what reward he wanted this time. Feng Zheng stepped forward and said.

“Hokage-sama, can I learn the Shadow Clone Technique?”

Hiruzen was very surprised by this request. He asked.

“Where did you hear about the Shadow Clone Technique? Why do you want to learn it?”

Feng Zheng showed an excited expression and said.

“Hokage-sama, we heard that the Second Hokage founded this school, so I became very interested in him and read a lot about his life and everything he did. After learning more about him, I was greatly inspired when I read that he created the Shadow Clone Technique, and having a clone that can actually do certain things is very useful.”

Then he looked at Hiruzen with anticipation.

Hiruzen looked at the excitement shown by the young student in front of him. Seeing his respectful demeanor towards his teacher, he lamented.

“Teacher, even though you have been dead for decades, your will of fire still inspires the children of Konoha!”

Hiruzen had sensed his Chakra level during the Taijutsu competition.

Feng Zheng wanted to request to learn the Shadow Clone Technique, so he didn't bother to hide his true Chakra level. Hiruzen thought.

“His Chakra level is barely enough to create one Shadow Clone. Alright, I'll give it to him, but I need to warn him about the dangers of this Ninjutsu.”

Hiruzen nodded and said.

“Okay, I’ll prepare the scroll for you right away. Come to my office tomorrow at noon.”

Feng Zheng became even more excited when he heard this and quickly thanked him. But deep down, he was very shocked. He thought.

“That’s it? Just a few good words about Senju Tobirama and he agreed? Should I have asked to learn Flying Thunder God or Impure World Reincarnation?”

He sighed in his heart and thought again.

“Then again, Shadow Clone isn’t a very complex Ninjutsu. It's just a Rank B Ninjutsu, easily obtainable from the Library even by an Elite Chunin. Moreover, my respect for Tobirama is genuine. Unlike Hiruzen, he actually did his job well.”

“Despite knowing Flying Thunder God, how he died in the war is still a mystery to me. This way, Hiruzen won't suspect anything. The Ninjutsu Tobirama created are recorded in the scrolls about him in the Library. So I don't think there's anything to be suspicious about.”

With these thoughts, he walked back among his classmates.

Genshu then announced that he would meet with everyone individually tomorrow and assigned each a time slot.

He also asked them to bring at least one parent with them.
