Chapter 25: One-to-one guidance

The next day, Genshu-sensei was very busy as he had to counsel all of his students.

Feng Zheng was the first to arrive at 8 AM, as Genshu had already set up a timetable based on their rankings.

Seeing Feng Zheng, Genshu thought,

“This child is doing very well. But he is just an orphan, and he doesn’t know how vast this world truly is. Although he has ranked first twice in a row, he still has many things to learn. I need to make sure he doesn’t get lost due to arrogance.”

Feng Zheng greeted him first.

“Good morning, Sensei.”

Genshu replied.

“Good morning. Congratulations on your performance yesterday.”

Feng Zheng smiled and said,

“Thank you, Sensei.”

Then he sat down.

Genshu smiled, then quickly became serious. He said,

“This meeting is to review your performance so far and to see what you should do during the holidays and in the coming year. Among all the students in this class, I have interacted with you the most, so don’t worry, listen carefully to my advice, and feel free to ask any questions.”

Feng Zheng nodded.

Genshu continued,

“So far, your performance has been excellent, ranking first for two consecutive years, which is obvious. However, in both exams, you achieved first place because of an exceptionally good score in one particular area.”

Feng Zheng nodded seriously, thinking,

“I’m not even eight years old yet! Do you really need to speak to me so seriously? Should an eight-year-old understand this?”

On the other hand, Genshu thought,

“This child isn’t angry? He is more mature than other children his age.”

Genshu continued,

“So you need to put more effort into other areas. Tell me, what do you do after class? And what do you do on weekends?”

He had already guessed that such a question might be asked, although he thought it should have been asked much earlier! He replied,

“Sensei, after class, I mainly review what you taught in class to understand it more deeply. Then I practice the Ninjutsu you taught us, or do Leaf Concentration exercises. Before bed, I Meditate. On weekends, I extensively review written exam content and train my perception skills.”

What Feng Zheng said was a well-thought-out answer he had prepared long ago.

Showing dedication to learning could explain why his written exam scores were so high. A listener would assume he spent most of his time studying.

He said he spent relatively less time on Ninjutsu, which also implicitly justified his slightly lower scores in Ninjutsu.

And his Meditation and morning exercises were precisely the reason for his rapid Chakra level growth. This answer also indicated that he was a very diligent student.

Genshu was not surprised by this answer. Given Feng Zheng’s performance, he had guessed the answer would be like this. He said,

“I see. Now, let’s look at your performance this year. You’ve achieved good results in written exams, Chakra control, and Taijutsu, but your Ninjutsu still needs a lot of training. So, for the next two months, you need to focus on the three Ninjutsu I taught.”

“Also, even after third grade, you should spend more time studying Ninjutsu and less time on written exam content. After all, when you perform missions in the future, this will be more important than what you read.”

Feng Zheng nodded, surprised in his heart, thinking,

“This is a first. No adult has ever told me to read less! Especially not a teacher.”

Genshu was very pleased that his words were taken seriously. He had a small gift to encourage Feng Zheng to delve deeper into Ninjutsu. He said,

“I know you asked Hokage-sama about the Shadow Clone Technique, so you must learn it well, as it will be very helpful in the future. However, I have a small gift for you.”

Saying this, he placed a piece of paper in front of Feng Zheng.

Seeing the paper, Feng Zheng sighed in his heart,

“I wasted 100 Ryo!”

Then he asked curiously,

“Sensei, what is this?”

Genshu replied,

“This is Chakra paper. Let some of your Chakra pass through it, and it will tell you what your Chakra nature is.”

Feng Zheng did as he was told. The Chakra paper split in half. He looked at Genshu in confusion.

Genshu explained more about Chakra paper and said that Feng Zheng’s Chakra nature was Wind Release.

Although Feng Zheng already knew, he still acted excited and nodded.

Genshu said,

“The method for cultivating Wind Release is to take a leaf and try to cut it with Chakra. This might take several months. Once you complete it, you can learn Wind Release Ninjutsu.”

Feng Zheng nodded again.

Genshu also told Feng Zheng that Uchiha Rai and Senju Teru could already use elemental Ninjutsu, to stimulate his competitive spirit.

After further discussion, Feng Zheng bid farewell and left.

He was a little tired of having to pretend to be ignorant of things he already knew!

Nevertheless, he was quite happy with the discussion.

If anyone asked him about cultivating Wind Release Ninjutsu in the future, he would have a good reason.

Sadly, he still had to repeat this process today.

Genshu spent the rest of the day consulting with 14 other students, while the remaining 15 students were scheduled for tomorrow.

His advice to the others also varied.

He advised Senju Teru to acquire the same Sealing Jutsu as Feng Zheng. He didn’t give Shimura Shin much advice; he just told him to socialize more.

For Hyuga Hana, he comforted her somewhat because of her sadness. Then he told her that she was focusing too much on her ranking and neglecting more important aspects.

He told her to reduce the time spent on studying and Leaf Concentration exercises, as she spent most of her time on these. Instead, he asked her to focus more on the development of Ninjutsu and Taijutsu.

For Uchiha Rai, he strongly advised his parents to ensure he Meditated for at least an hour every day.

For Hyuga Hodaka, the advice was to focus more on academics.

In a similar fashion, this activity continued throughout the entire day and the next day.

At noon, Feng Zheng arrived at the Hokage’s office.

Hiruzen handed him a scroll and said,

“This scroll contains the Shadow Clone Technique. This scroll is not to be shared with anyone else, and it must be returned to me after you have learned it.”

Feng Zheng nodded.

Hiruzen then talked about the Shadow Clone Technique. He warned Feng Zheng,

“Now, and perhaps until next year, do not think about creating more than one Shadow Clone. Also, when you dispel a clone, all memories will transfer to you. This might cause you headaches. So be careful when dispelling clones. At the same time, do not use Shadow Clones while sleeping, as this is very detrimental to your health.”

Feng Zheng nodded, thanking him again.

Hiruzen then told some stories about Tobirama, and Feng Zheng had to pretend to listen with great interest.

After half an hour of storytelling, Hiruzen finally allowed Feng Zheng to leave. Feng Zheng sighed, complaining,

“Shouldn’t the Hokage be busy with paperwork? Why does he have so much time to talk to me?”
