Chapter 19: Siege

Mu Bei was taken to the physical examination center in Jinzhou City for further physical checks.

This examination center was located in a simple shack built with steel plates, surrounded by thick barbed wire.

Led by a soldier, Mu Bei walked into the examination room, looked around, and already had a plan in mind.

Inside the examination room, the doctors were fully equipped with protective suits, masks, and gloves.

They quickly began performing routine checks on Mu Bei.

"Please sit," the doctor pointed to a chair, signaling Mu Bei to sit down.

After Mu Bei sat down, the doctor took out a stethoscope and placed it on his chest. "Please take a deep breath."

Mu Bei took several deep breaths as instructed, and the doctor listened carefully to his heartbeat and lung sounds before nodding.

"Your cardiopulmonary function sounds very strong," the doctor said, putting down the stethoscope and picking up a blood pressure monitor.

"Please roll up your sleeve," the doctor continued.

Mu Bei rolled up his sleeve, and the doctor wrapped the blood pressure cuff around his arm and began measuring his blood pressure.

Mu Bei's current physical fitness was dozens of times that of a normal Human, and his real blood pressure data would definitely deviate from the normal range.

However, thanks to his extremely high Agility attribute, Mu Bei possessed powerful control over his muscles.

By controlling muscle contraction or stretching of blood vessels, he could interfere with the blood pressure measurement results, making his blood pressure fluctuate within the "normal range".

After a while, the doctor recorded the blood pressure reading and said, "Blood pressure is normal."

Phew~, Mu Bei let out a long sigh of relief inwardly.

Controlling his blood pressure was a mentally taxing task.

Next, the doctor took out a thermometer. "Please place the thermometer under your tongue."

Mu Bei took the thermometer and placed it under his tongue as instructed by the doctor.

Without strenuous activity, Mu Bei's body temperature was no different from that of an ordinary Human, staying around 37°C, so he didn't need to specifically control it.

A few minutes later, the doctor looked at the reading on the thermometer. "Body temperature is normal."

Then, the doctor took out a small hammer and gently tapped Mu Bei's knee to test his reflexes.

However, the force of the tap was too small for Mu Bei, too small to trigger his conditioned reflex, so he could only use his conscious will to control his lower leg to lift, pretending the reflex was normal.

"Next, we need to draw blood. Please extend your arm," the doctor ordered.

Draw blood?

For Mu Bei, this was difficult to disguise, as the needle probably wouldn't pierce his skin.

Furthermore, he couldn't control the toughness of his epidermis at the moment.

Mu Bei followed the instructions and extended his left arm.

The doctor aimed the needle at his vein and forcefully pushed it in.

Just as Mu Bei expected, the needle barely touched his skin and couldn't penetrate further.

The doctor frowned, increased the force, and tried again, but the needle broke.

"What's going on?" the doctor muttered softly.

"Mr. Mu Bei, please sit here and wait for a moment."

The surrounding soldiers and medical staff also noticed this.

In an Instant, the atmosphere in the examination room became tense.

The doctor signaled to a soldier, who immediately reported upwards.

Soon after, a fully armed ability user captain walked in.

The ability user captain looked to be in his thirties, with a burly build and sharp eyes.

His name was Zhong Liwei, the third uncle of Jinzhou City Lord Zhongli Yi, and he was responsible for handling security issues within Jinzhou City.

After reviewing the reconnaissance information, Mu Bei's assessment of Zhong Liwei was - a weakling that could be killed casually.

Zhong Liwei walked slowly towards Mu Bei, scrutinizing him with a look of alertness.

"What's happening?" Zhong Liwei asked, his voice low and powerful.

"His skin is too tough, the needle can't pierce it. It seems he has awakened a body enhancement type ability."

The doctor explained from the side.

Zhong Liwei's gaze turned to Mu Bei, and he asked coldly:

"Why didn't You tell us that You had awakened an ability during the personal information registration?"

Mu Bei feigned a slightly frightened look and replied:

"Sir, I, I didn't know. I really don't know when I awakened my ability."

Doubt flickered in Zhong Liwei's eyes. He took a step forward, carefully observing Mu Bei's expression and physical reactions.

At this moment, the atmosphere around them grew even more tense, and several soldiers also stepped forward, their hands already on their firearms.

"Ability awakening is not a small matter," Zhong Liwei said coldly. "You couldn't not know."

"But, sir," Mu Bei continued to try and explain, pretending a slight tremor in his voice.

"I really don't know. Maybe it's because I've always lived in danger, and my body adapted naturally. I always thought I was just a little stronger than others."

Zhong Liwei still looked at Mu Bei suspiciously, although he knew that some abilities were indeed not easy to notice upon awakening.

For example, some body enhancement ability users only realized they had awakened their abilities after being attacked and finding themselves unharmed.

But he still couldn't fully believe Mu Bei's one-sided story.

The reason Jinzhou City still existed was not just due to modern weapons, but more so due to caution and prudence.

"I apologize, sir," Zhong Liwei said coldly, "but for the safety of Jinzhou City, we need to detain You for a few days."

"Men, take him away..."

Just then, a commotion came from outside the examination room, interrupting Zhong Liwei's words.

"Help! Someone is turning into a Zombie!" A scream broke the previously tense atmosphere.

Mu Bei turned his head and saw a person waiting for examination suddenly collapse, their body convulsing, foaming at the mouth – a sign of zombification.

"It might just be an epileptic seizure," a doctor shouted, trying to calm the people around.

"Please don't panic, it's impossible for someone carrying the Zombie virus to be here, the checks here are very strict."

However, the facts quickly slapped the doctor in the face.

The person who had collapsed, suspected of having an epileptic seizure, suddenly stood up, emitting a low growl from their mouth, their eyes vacant, and began attacking those around them frantically.

Soon, people were scratched or bitten, and the surrounding people screamed and retreated, trying to escape the dangerous place.

At the same time, people kept suddenly falling down, their bodies convulsing, accompanied by foaming at the mouth.

"Quick, kill them all!" Zhong Liwei ordered loudly, drawing the pistol from his waist.

He wanted to nip this Zombie tide, whose cause was unknown, in the bud at all costs. The Zombie virus absolutely could not spread within Jinzhou City!

However, in that very Instant, Mu Bei, standing beside Zhong Liwei, suddenly exploded into action, launching a sneak attack.

Only by allowing the Zombie virus to successfully erupt could the plan be ensured to succeed.

Mu Bei's movements were as swift as lightning. He took out the Vicious Dagger from his storage space, gripped it in a reverse hold, and instantly swung it towards Zhong Liwei.

Too fast, it was simply too fast.

A cold glint flashed, and a line of blood appeared on Zhong Liwei's neck, followed by a large spray of blood.

He didn't even have time to activate the active effect of his ability before he died violently on the spot after letting out a scream.

Subsequently, Mu Bei grabbed Zhong Liwei's collapsing corpse and shielded himself with it, using the body as a shield against bullets.

The battle was urgent, so Mu Bei didn't choose to immediately pick up the blue treasure chest that had dropped to the ground.

Incidentally, the native creatures in the task World could not see, touch, or open treasure chests.

Only the Paradise's Contractors could see, pick up, and open treasure chests.

"He killed Captain Zhong, kill him quickly!"

Seeing Zhong Liwei killed by Mu Bei, the soldiers turned their guns towards Mu Bei and pulled the triggers.

Although Mu Bei's current speed couldn't match that of flying bullets, it was faster than the speed at which these soldiers moved their guns.

Under the attribute Rolling , their reaction speed seemed so slow in front of Mu Bei.

Shielded by Zhong Liwei's sturdy corpse, Mu Bei was unstoppable in the examination center, killing anyone who stood in his way.

Suddenly, a stinging sensation came from Mu Bei's left abdomen.

Clearly, he had been shot.

However, it was not a big problem.

"Quickly kill this ability user!" a soldier shouted in panic, but his voice disappeared into the air in the next moment.

Because Mu Bei had already used Zhong Liwei's corpse to approach and had stabbed his throat with the dagger.

Mu Bei moved like a ghost through the examination room, with soldiers carrying firearms being his priority targets.

The dagger kept piercing the vital points of one soldier after another.

The soldiers fell one after another, blood splattering across the entire room.

In less than just 1 minute, all the soldiers in the examination center were killed, with no one left alive.

And Mu Bei was only shot three times, his health only dropping by less than 3% from 100%.

Without the soldiers' obstruction, the Zombies began to frantically attack all living people around them, and the virus spread rapidly.

The chaos inside and outside the examination center quickly spread, more infected people began to mutate, and the Zombie tide erupted uncontrollably.

After confirming that the Zombie tide had achieved the desired effect, Mu Bei took out a flare gun from his storage space.

The flare gun was found in an abandoned police station.

While casually eliminating the Zombies that attacked him on the way, he walked to the open space outside the examination center, and also picked up the blue treasure chest that dropped after killing Zhong Liwei and put it into his storage space.

Mu Bei looked up at the sky, which had already turned dark, and then pulled the trigger.

A bright flare shot through the night sky, soaring straight into the clouds.

Outside the city, A Ling saw the flare and immediately commanded the Zombie tide to launch a full assault on Jinzhou City.
