Chapter 20: Hell on Earth

Outside the City.

The Zombie army rapidly approached Jinzhou City, the Zombie tide surging towards the city walls like a tsunami.

Low growls and heavy footsteps echoed in the air, bringing a terrifying sense of oppression.

The defenders on the city walls saw the Zombie army approaching and immediately sounded the alarm, quickly entering combat readiness.

“Everyone in position! Prepare for battle!” The commander on the city wall ordered loudly, and the soldiers quickly lined up on the wall, their guns aimed at the surging Zombie tide.

...

Inside the City.

The chaos was already uncontrollable, the spread of the Zombie virus far exceeding Mu Bei's expectations.

When a person first turns into a Zombie, because most of their muscle tissue has not yet lost activity, coupled with the human brain's limitation on muscle explosive power being lifted due to Zombification, at this time, the Zombie's Strength and speed are strongest.

When Mu Bei first entered the trial World, he encountered two Zombies that had been Zombified for a long time and had not received any nutrients during that time, resulting in severe muscle atrophy.

If he had encountered two Zombies that had just completed Zombification, then his possibility of surviving would not even be 1%.

Many soldiers and residents turned into Zombies in a short time, attacking their companions around them irrationally, rapidly expanding the infection range.

The defenders inside the city tried to control the situation. The threat from residents turned into Zombies was not particularly great; the truly difficult ones were the soldiers who had just turned into Zombies.

These Zombie soldiers were fully armed, wearing bulletproof helmets and vests which greatly increased the difficulty of killing them.

Furthermore, their stronger physical fitness before death made their speed and Strength after Zombification far exceed those of the Zombies that were once residents.

...

West City District.

Lieutenant Zhongli Gong's hand tightly gripped the walkie-talkie, his eyes filled with anxiety and despair. He stood at the forefront of the defense line, looking at the constantly surging Zombie tide, a wave of powerlessness rising in his heart.

The surrounding soldiers were close to collapse, their bullets almost empty, and every second a comrade was pounced on by Zombies, torn into pieces.

“West City Wall Command Post, West City Wall Command Post! This is the West City Steel Plant, Lieutenant Zhongli Gong requesting reinforcement! We can't hold on much longer!”

Zhongli Gong shouted loudly into the walkie-talkie, his voice mixed with fear and despair.

A burst of static came from the walkie-talkie, followed by an anxious voice, “Received, Lieutenant, we are mobilizing reinforcement troops, hold on!”

Zhongli Gong breathed a sigh of relief, just about to continue commanding the soldiers to defend, when suddenly, a heart-wrenching scream came from the other end of the walkie-talkie.

“Ah—! Help! No—!”

Zhongli Gong's heart sank sharply. Hearing the screams and chaotic sounds from the walkie-talkie, it was clear that the command post was also in crisis.

“Command Post? Command Post! Respond if you receive!” Zhongli Gong shouted in despair, but there was only silent beeping from the walkie-talkie, as if everything was over.

He knew that reinforcements would not come again.

Zhongli Gong took a deep breath, gripped the weapon in his hand tightly, a hint of resolute Determination flashing in his eyes.

He turned and shouted loudly to the soldiers behind him: “Everyone, hold the line! For the people we love, we must fight until the last moment!”

...

Outside the City.

An armed helicopter hovered low outside the city wall, its mounted machine guns constantly spitting fire, bullets raining down on the dense Zombie horde on the ground.

“Full fire! Don't stop!” The Gunner on the helicopter ordered loudly, his eyes filled with anxiety and Determination.

The roar of the machine gun echoed in the night sky, Zombies were hit by bullets, falling in swathes.

However, the number of Zombies was simply too many, the endless Zombie tide kept coming, stepping over the corpses of their companions and continuing forward.

The helicopter's searchlight illuminated the ground, clearly showing that the Zombies had piled up into a slope, and along the ramp formed by the piled corpses, they were continuously surging towards the city wall.

On the ground, blood splattered everywhere, the roars of Zombies and screams intertwined, forming a horrifying scene.

“Adjust altitude! We must break this ramp, lower down, to more effectively strike them!”

The Gunner said to the pilot through the headset.

The helicopter slightly lowered its altitude, the pilot trying to find a better angle for strafing.

The machine gun opened fire again, bullets cutting down a large area of Zombies like harvesting wheat, but the number of Zombies was simply too vast.

The Zombies on the ground suddenly accelerated, waving their rotten hands, trying to grab the helicopter's landing gear.

“Look out! They're trying to grab us!” The Gunner shouted alertly, but it was too late.

Several elite Zombies, after a running start, had firmly grasped the helicopter's landing gear with their claws, and more Zombies also grabbed onto these few Zombies.

The helicopter shook violently, the pilot desperately pulled up altitude, but the weight of the Zombies and their frantic climbing caused the helicopter to lose balance.

The noise of the rotor became more ear-piercing, the fuselage swayed precariously, seeming as if it could crash at any moment.

“We're losing control! Prepare to parachute!” The pilot shouted in panic.

However, before he finished speaking, more and more Zombies indirectly grabbed onto the helicopter, the accumulation of weight finally exceeding the helicopter's load limit.

The lift provided by the helicopter was insufficient, causing the helicopter to fall to the ground out of control.

“Boom—!” A huge explosion sounded, the helicopter crashed into the Zombie horde, flames soaring into the sky.

The shockwave of the explosion blew away the surrounding Zombies, debris scattered, and flames consumed everything.

The burning fuselage emitted thick smoke on the ground, and the roars of the Zombies in the firelight became even more mournful.

Even under the burning flames, the Zombies did not stop, they continued forward recklessly, following the slope of piled corpses, continuing to surge towards the city wall.

The soldiers on the city walls watched this scene, their hearts filled with despair and fear.

The firelight reflected on the city wall, the helicopter crash becoming a tragic Instant in this fierce battle.

...

On the City Wall.

The night sky was filled with the heavy smell of blood and decay, the dense Zombie tide, like endless waves, frantically pounding the city walls of Jinzhou City.

The defenders on the city walls had given their all, but the enemy they faced was simply too numerous.

Bullets rained down, Zombies fell in response, but more Zombies kept surging forward.

“Fire! Keep firing!” An officer roared, commanding the soldiers, trying to stop the Zombie attack.

The soldiers gripped their weapons, their hands trembling slightly from exhaustion and tension, but they still desperately pulled the triggers, firing shot after shot.

At the foot of the city wall, the bodies of fallen Zombies had piled up into a small mountain.

But more Zombies rushed forward one after another, stepping on the corpses of their companions, trying to climb towards the city wall.

“Oh God, they've piled up into a slope!” A soldier shouted in horror, witnessing this scene, his eyes filled with despair.

Indeed, Zombies and corpses continuously piled up at the foot of the city wall, gradually forming several climbable slopes.

Whenever new Zombies rushed up and were killed, their bodies were like sandbags, raising the slope, allowing the Zombies behind to continue climbing up the slope.

“Quick, concentrate fire! Don't let them climb up!” An officer waved his arms, trying to organize an effective counterattack.

But the number of Zombies was simply too many, the soldiers on the city walls were already exhausted, and their bullets were gradually running out due to the inability to get supplies from the rear.

The height of the slopes became higher and higher.

Finally, an elite Zombie climbed onto the city wall along the slope, carrying a pungent smell of decay and a low roar, pouncing on a soldier.

The soldier pulled the trigger in panic, but his bullets were depleted, he could only desperately hit the Zombie with the gunstock.

But the elite Zombie had surprisingly great Strength, pinning the soldier to the ground, its sharp teeth biting towards his neck.

Although this elite Zombie that climbed onto the city wall was quickly killed under the concentrated fire of the soldiers, it was a beginning.

...

Residential Area.

Meanwhile, the residents inside the city fell into extreme panic, fleeing everywhere.

The streets were filled with the roars of Zombies and the screams of people, blood splattered everywhere, corpses lay across the ground.

In this hellish scene, a mother tightly held her child, running desperately.

Her eyes were filled with despair and fear, with almost no time to breathe.

Behind her, Zombies waved their rotten claws, chasing them frantically.

The mother's heart pounded violently, fear and exhaustion making her legs almost lose Strength.

Her breathing became rapid, the scene before her blurred, yet she knew, she had to keep running, could not stop.

Just as the Zombies were about to pounce, a figure shimmering with electric light suddenly appeared in front of her, as swift as lightning.

A cold-gleaming sharp blade accurately cut off the Zombie's head, the Zombie's body instantly went limp, falling to the ground.

“Run!” Captain Li Chengtuo shouted, his voice filled with urgency and firmness.

He pushed the mother and child into a small alley, his eyes carrying a hint of comfort and encouragement.

The mother stumbled into the alley, tears blurring her eyes.

She hugged her child tightly, gave Li Chengtuo a grateful look, and then continued running towards safety.

Li Chengtuo took a deep breath, activated his ability, and shimmering electric light circled around him.

His speed suddenly increased, like a silver lightning bolt, weaving through the Zombie horde.

His blade flashed, every strike was incredibly precise, cutting down Zombies one by one.

His figure constantly flashed in the darkness, becoming a ray of hope in despair.

At the other end of the street, Mu Bei, who had just massacred an reinforced platoon, noticed this silver electric light.

Mu Bei stripped off the bulletproof vest and helmet from a dead person, replacing the damaged armor on his body, and slowly approached Li Chengtuo.

Li Chengtuo was busy saving people and did not realize that true danger was approaching.

When Li Chengtuo moved to within five meters of Mu Bei, because of the equipment the latter was wearing, he thought he was a soldier of Jinzhou City.

So, he directly roared at Mu Bei:

“Soldier! What are you doing here? Don't you see there are so many people who need rescuing? Go protect the citizens quickly!”

Mu Bei did not speak, but responded with action.

He suddenly burst out, his movements as swift as lightning, the dagger in his hand drawing a fatal arc, striking directly at Li Chengtuo's vital point.

Li Chengtuo felt the danger behind him, but it was too late to react.

A blood-stained dagger accurately pierced his heart, and then Mu Bei twisted his wrist, the rotating dagger completely destroying the heart.

“Uh ah—!”

Li Chengtuo let out a sharp scream, the flashing electric light suddenly dissipated.

Then, he fell weakly to the ground, blood quickly spread, a hint of astonishment and unwillingness flashing in his eyes, dying with his eyes wide open.

Mu Bei looked at Li Chengtuo lying on the ground, without a trace of pity or any respect for life in his eyes.

It was as if he had just killed not a living person, but a chicken, or a duck.

After taking the blue treasure chest that Li Chengtuo dropped, Mu Bei continued to search for City Lord Zhongli Yi.

Li Chengtuo was the sixth elite-level Human ability user he had killed, but definitely not the last.

...

The defenders on the city walls were still struggling to hold on, the Zombie tide, like a tsunami, endlessly pounded the defense line.

Their numbers were simply too many, a dense mass, seemingly infinite.

More and more Zombies took the opportunity to climb onto the city wall, covering the entire defense line like ants.

Roars echoed in the night sky, mixed with the shouts of soldiers and gunshots, appearing particularly mournful.

“Retreat! Everyone retreat!” The commander's voice was hoarse and resolute, finally issuing the retreat order.

The defenders began to orderly withdraw from the city wall, attempting to establish a new defense line within the city.

However, the retreat process was not smooth, because the situation inside the city was even worse.

Soldiers were constantly attacked by Zombies during the retreat, many were pounced on in the chaos, and painful screams were incessant.

A soldier had just run down the city wall when he was bitten on the leg by a sudden Zombie attack, his scream pierced the night sky, and was immediately drowned out by more Zombies.

His companions tried to save him, but the number of Zombies was too many, they could only watch him being killed, and then he joined the ranks of the Zombies.

The streets inside the city turned into a battlefield, blood splattered everywhere, and bodies were strewn across the ground.

The defenders engaged in fierce street battles with the Zombies, gunshots, explosions, and screams intertwined.

The residents inside the city also fell into deeper despair, they desperately tried to escape, but no matter where they ran, they could not escape the pursuit of the Zombies.

An old man fell to the ground, his hands weakly grasping the ground, trying to stand up, but the Zombies relentlessly pursuing him quickly pounced.

A Zombie bit his shoulder with not-so-sharp teeth, tearing at his body.

The old man let out a heart-wrenching scream, and was immediately swallowed by the black tide of Zombies.

The air was filled with the heavy smell of blood and decay, the once prosperous Jinzhou City had now become a living hell.

Broken bodies and blood were everywhere on the streets, the tragic battle scene filled people with despair.

The roars of Zombies and the screams of Humans intertwined, forming a tragic symphony.

And in this grand and tragic symphony, Jinzhou City fell.
