Chapter 41: The calm before the storm

After being hit by Hydro Pump, Steelix chose to retreat immediately.

It wasn’t that he felt he couldn’t win, but rather that his steel body, which had endured the high temperatures and pressures of the Earth’s core, hadn’t cooled yet, and contact with water would cause the tempered steel body to crack and bend.

Once severe deformation occurred, Steelix would have to expend ten times the effort to repair itself.

When the high temperature dissipated and its stamina recovered, that would be the time for Steelix to return and seek revenge on Kebi for that Hydro Pump.

Steelix returned to his territory, and four Fearow and thirty-eight Magnemite gathered outside his cave.

“Roar!”

“Now is not the time to face that human. Fearow, go hone your wings and claws. Magnemite, go absorb more lightning and temper your bodies to be even harder with lightning and magnetic fields.”

As the overlords of Steel Valley, they needed to face more than just Kebi, a single human.

To protect the peace of Steel Valley, they had to strike hard and expel all invading humans.

Today’s defeat showed that they were not strong enough!

Not only Fearow and Magnemite, but Steelix also realized his own shortcomings.

He had to become stronger to protect his homeland and maintain the current peace.

Steelix coiled into a ball, closed his eyes, and began to use the Sleep move.

He would digest the power he absorbed from the Earth’s core lava at an unprecedented speed.

Proving that Steel Valley was still strong!

Fearow flapped his wings and squawked.

“Children, let’s train!”

Fearow against Fearow, Magnemite against Magnemite, they paired up and fought.

In an instant, the steel will inherited by Steel Valley returned to this sky.

Meanwhile, Kebi was rewarding his Pokémon.

Although this battle ended with their strategic retreat.

It was undeniable that everyone performed excellently in the battle.

Rewarding heroes naturally required a grand feast.

Kebi played a leaf flute, and Seedot improvised a dance for everyone.

Seeing this scene for the first time, Torkoal was so moved that he spewed out a large plume of black smoke.

Kebi vaguely remembered that black smoke from burning coal usually meant incomplete combustion.

Therefore, the White Smoke ability not only meant that Torkoal’s abilities would not be lowered.

Did it also mean Torkoal’s efficient use of his own energy?

To make the smoke Torkoal spewed out not black and not acrid, he needed to adjust his diet and change the way Torkoal used Fire-type energy.

Kebi shook his head and stopped thinking about it, taking out the Magnet Pull generator from his backpack.

“Nosepass, come here for a moment.”

While his companions ate Pokémon food, Nosepass silently inserted his feet into the ground to absorb Magnet Pull.

Summoned by Kebi, Nosepass pulled out his feet and walked over.

“Nosepass~”

Kebi turned on the switch, and the Magnet Pull generator split into four parts, rotating around Nosepass in the shape of a triangular pyramid.

Although he couldn’t see it, as a Psychic, Kebi’s mental power could feel a triangular pyramid-shaped field in front of him.

Nosepass was very happy, and his body occasionally emitted wisps of silver-white or bright yellow electric current, like a fish returning to the sea.

Kebi was surprised to find that Nosepass’s feet slowly lifted off the ground.

The Magnet Pull generator absorbed solar energy to operate, so Kebi didn’t need to worry about energy issues; he needed to worry about whether Nosepass could withstand the power of the Magnet Pull generator.

Nosepass’s development of the Magnet Pull ability was not fake either; he made good use of the Magnet Pull generator to improve his physique.

Nosepass floated in mid-air, and the gentle breeze of the valley blew across him, easily carrying away a layer of fine sand.

Nosepass is Rock, and Probopass is magnetite.

When Nosepass developed the Magnet Pull ability and completely changed his body structure, that would be the day of his evolution.

“Nosepass, if you feel you can’t hold on, tell me, and I’ll stop the Magnet Pull generator.”

Nosepass absorbed Magnet Pull for about forty minutes before telling Kebi to turn it off.

Kebi pressed the controller, and the Magnet Pull generator returned to a single unit and landed in front of Kebi.

Meanwhile, a circle of bright yellow electric current lit up around Nosepass’s body, keeping Nosepass suspended in mid-air.

With the help of the Magnet Pull generator, Nosepass finally mastered the Electromagnetic Levitation skill.

The Pokémon that participated in the battle had also mostly recovered their stamina, so it was time to continue training.

Perhaps because of the big battle between Kebi and Fearow and Magnemite, the valley, which had occasionally made some noise before, was now very quiet.

Not a single Pokémon could be found.

He could only return to the area where he first met Nosepass to begin skill training.

Kebi insisted on meditating daily to improve his mental power, and his intuition told him that the current tranquility was just a prelude to an approaching storm.

He was a lone boat that had sailed into the vast sea of Steel Valley, and whether he could weather the coming storm depended on the quality of the boat and his skill as a pilot.

And the instigators of the storm were Steelix, whom he had met once, and Steelix’s subordinates, Fearow and Magnemite.

Kebi would not shy away; he would Ingrain himself in this valley and await Steelix’s arrival.

“Chimchar, condense all your power into Flame Wheel! Make it faster! Stronger!”

The power of the lava stone would permeate Chimchar’s body when he used Flame Wheel, increasing his Stamina, Physical Attack, and Speed stats.

“Piplup, your control over Hydro Pump is starting to show results, but Hydro Pump isn’t strong enough. I hope the power can be increased even more!”

Piplup nodded firmly. Kebi insisted that Piplup train Water Gun, using Water Gun hundreds of times a day, allowing Piplup to easily upgrade Water Gun to Hydro Pump.

From initially condensing water to fire, to now spouting it from his mouth.

In just one month, Piplup had undergone a complete transformation.

“Seedot, I believe your Seed Machine Gun can still achieve new breakthroughs.”

“Treecko, today you don’t need to practice offensive skills. What you need to practice is Synthesis.”

Synthesis is not difficult for Grass-type Pokémon to learn, but it is an easy-to-learn, hard-to-master skill.

Starting from Synthesis, Solar Beam and Solar Blade are both excellent skills.

Treecko’s prominent Dragon lineage gives him higher stats, but Grass is his foundation.

Synthesis would make him grow stronger.

Fearow’s task was to be shocked by Nosepass. Kebi stroked Fearow’s cheek.

“You have to practice this. If you practice it well, I’ll buy you materials to make a Breeze Incense, so you can become the most dazzling bird in the eyes of thousands of females, how about it?”

Fearow immediately raised his head. It was just electric resistance training. Today, he would let Kebi know that he was not a coward.

“Nosepass, control it. Fearow’s tolerance is very poor.”

Fearow was displeased. Who was poor!

He immediately turned and squawked at Nosepass, “Don’t listen to him! I can take it! Give it your all!”

Nosepass was honest too; since Fearow said so, he really used his full power.

Having just absorbed Magnet Pull, the electric current within Nosepass was surging.

With one Thunderbolt, Fearow, crackling with electricity, fell straight down.

Numb. Completely numb. His lifelong reputation was ruined just like that…

Regaining some sensation, Fearow silently covered his face with his wings.

Kebi laughed at the sight. Once Fearow had recovered enough.

“Nosepass, Discharge.”

“Ow!”

Shocked again, Fearow flapped his wings and flew up.

Kebi stifled a laugh, “See? Your tolerance has improved greatly right away.”
