Chapter 9: Ancient Scepter

With Piplup's Pokémon food assistance, in less than twenty minutes, another Relicanth appeared in the fish pond.

Several Magikarp were also reeled in midway, but they were all mercilessly slapped away by the Relicanth, falling into the underground pool or onto the ground, then the Magikarp struggled to get back into the water.

Kebi couldn't help but sigh, “Magikarp are truly everywhere.”

Dr. Mei Mu nodded in agreement, “I remember a doctor who specialized in Magikarp published a paper discussing the methods and possibilities of Magikarp evolving into Gyarados.”

Kebi's eyebrows raised; he was interested in any knowledge about Pokémon.

“Could you tell me about it?”

Dr. Mei Mu recalled for a moment, “I remember it said something like, because Magikarp have strong vitality, their lifespans are generally very long.”

“As long as they are not hunted, they will accumulate potential over time and realize it by leaping through the Dragon Gate, evolving into Gyarados.”

“When ships sail in the ocean, the most dangerous situation is offending Gyarados, because there are too many Gyarados, even if a single Gyarados's power isn't strong enough.”

“A group of Gyarados gathering and releasing Dragon Rage can even overturn a ten-thousand-ton vessel.”

Kebi nodded in agreement; Kojiro's evolution back then made him, still young, understand what Dragon Rage was.

If he encountered a Magikarp with outstanding talent, he would also want to raise one.

“Dr. Mei Mu, where does this doctor you mentioned research Magikarp?”

The place where this doctor researches Magikarp must have a large number of Magikarp, and using his Pokémon detector, he could definitely find a high-aptitude Magikarp.

Dr. Mei Mu thought for a moment but still shook his head, “I don't remember; I'll check the researcher forum when I get back.”

Watching Kebi fish, Dr. Mei Mu also felt a bit antsy. “Do you have an extra fishing rod? I want to try too.”

Kebi took out a fishing rod from his backpack and handed it to Dr. Mei Mu.

Then Dr. Mei Mu watched Kebi reel in three Magikarp in a row, while he caught nothing.

It wasn't until Kebi caught a Relicanth that he finally couldn't hold back.

“Why do you keep catching fish?”

“Because your mind isn't calm; the Pokémon in the water sensed your emotions through the fishing rod.”

As a researcher, Dr. Mei Mu couldn't understand Kebi's abstract explanation.

But he still took a deep breath, calming his mind as if in Calm Mind.

In less than five minutes, his fishing rod really moved.

With a strong pull, a Relicanth gracefully emerged from the water.

“I got one! And it's a Relicanth.”

At this moment, Dr. Mei Mu experienced the joy of a fishing enthusiast.

With four Relicanth gathered, the next step was to open the door to the secret room.

Kebi sprinkled another handful of Pokémon food into the fish pond.

“Four of you, next, you need to use Ancient Power on a specific spot once. After it's done, there will be plenty of this food.”

The Relicanth naturally agreed.

Dr. Mei Mu walked to a rock wall and pulled off a piece of camouflage cloth.

“After I discovered this underground pool, I felt that this place was not simple. After carefully studying the rock wall, I indeed found the door to the secret room.”

To the right of the door, something was also written in ancient script, which should be the method to open the door.

Under Dr. Mei Mu's guidance, the four Relicanth successively used Ancient Power to strike the four points on the stone door.

The patterns on it emitted a white light, and accompanied by rumbling sounds of stone friction, the stone door opened.

Entering through the stone door, inside was an empty stone chamber. The surrounding rock walls were carved with murals and texts depicting ancient people interacting with various Pokémon.

In each of the four corners of the stone chamber, there was a Baltoy stone statue.

And in the center of the ruins, there was a stone platform.

A golden scepter was stuck in the stone platform, with a large blue gem at the top of the scepter.

Through his Psychic, Kebi could sense the Ancient Power possessed by the scepter.

Dr. Mei Mu excitedly deciphered the ancient texts on the murals.

Kebi frowned and asked, “It feels no different from the stone chamber outside?”

Dr. Mei Mu immediately retorted:

“The outside depicts the life of ordinary people, while here it describes how the king of this civilization led everyone to establish this kingdom.”

“The murals mention that the king forged a magical scepter that can awaken Pokémon's potential, and I think you, as a Trainer, would definitely be interested.”

“It should be the one on the stone platform.”

Saying that, Dr. Mei Mu walked over, intending to pull the scepter from the stone platform.

Kebi quickly pulled him back, “Don't pull it!”

After activating his Psychic, Kebi felt his sixth sense had become much stronger.

His intuition told him that if Dr. Mei Mu pulled out the scepter, something very terrifying would happen.

“Why? This is just an ordinary stone chamber. I've inspected many ancient ruins, so I naturally know that ancient people liked to create mechanisms.”

“I've checked, and this stone chamber has no mechanisms whatsoever; you can observe it with peace of mind.”

Kebi shook his head, “I don't know, but this is a Psychic premonition, and I think it's best to obey it.”

Dr. Mei Mu stroked his chin,

“I remember an article that said when Psychic users can't find the right direction, by throwing a stick, they can often return to the correct path.”

“Ordinary people can't do that, so you, as a Psychic user, sensed danger…”

Kebi observed the environment of the stone chamber until he looked up and realized that directly above the scepter, there was an inverted stone Claydol hanging there.

Kebi pointed at the Claydol, “Doctor, is this normal?”

Upon seeing the inverted Claydol, Dr. Mei Mu's expression immediately became serious.

“I've never seen this before. It seems this stone chamber is indeed not that simple.”

He immediately took out his camera.

“I'm going to take pictures. Once I've photographed all the murals, we'll leave.”

Looking at the Claydol, and then at the Baltoy in the corner, Kebi instinctively felt that the danger came from them.

Either the stones could move and attack.

Or they would transform from stone into real Claydol and Baltoy.

The way to activate them should be to pull out the scepter.

“The murals describing the scepter's power are probably enticing those who enter to pull out the scepter, and then bring about their own destruction.”

Although Kebi really wanted the scepter, he would not rashly pull it out before mastering Teleport.

After photographing the murals, Dr. Mei Mu also took a picture of the scepter.

He planned to ask his professor and colleagues if anyone knew about this scepter.

“Let's go.”

The information on the murals was very valuable, and Dr. Mei Mu was very excited.

“With this information, I can get a large sum of sponsorship to excavate a ruin I've always wanted to excavate.”

Kebi was a bit curious, “Sponsorship?”

“We historians are interested in history, and those rich people are interested in ancient artifacts and the treasures of ancient people.”

“For example, this scepter, if put up for auction, might be worth tens of millions of alliance coins.”

The scepter's ability to develop Pokémon's power is certainly not worth that much; the key is that it's an ancient artifact with special abilities, instantly skyrocketing the scepter's value.

After a final glance at the scepter, Dr. Mei Mu pressed the mechanism to close the stone chamber door.

As for the four Relicanth, Dr. Mei Mu had no immediate plans to re-enter the stone chamber, and Kebi also didn't want to raise this type of Pokémon that could only battle in water.

So he released them back into the underground pool.
