For ten whole days, Gui Ling searched for Gengar, setting up his base by the river.
When he was hungry, he would light a fire and roast fish, and every day he had to feed that huge cocoon.
Each time, after Gui Ling roasted the fish, he would hand it to the cocoon nearby, and each time, the cocoon would extend its hawk-like beak, swallow the fish in one gulp, and then retract.
Then Gui Ling would throw the empty branch behind him, pick up another roasted fish, and continue cooking.
Until today… he finally saw a Gengar.
Gui Ling hid in the bushes, his gaze fixed on the Gengar, whose fur was even different; it was a grayish-white.
“It’s a Shinny Gengar?!”
Gui Ling smiled, drew the tang katana from behind him, unwrapped the bandages around its blade, and picked up one of the Poké Balls, preparing for action.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to summon the cocoon; when a Pokémon attacked him before, he had summoned it, but the cocoon remained motionless, and Gui Ling had to expend a great deal of effort to drive the Pokémon away.
So, Gui Ling decided not to let it appear this time, otherwise, startling the Gengar would make it harder to catch.
“Here I come!”
Gui Ling was the first to rush out of the bushes, slashing towards the Gengar, who immediately reacted by burrowing into the ground, causing Gui Ling’s attack to miss.
“Facing an enemy who attacks me, I don’t believe it can escape!”
Gui Ling then picked up the tang katana, vigilantly looking around, as Gengar, being a Ghost-type, was elusive and could attack from anywhere.
After a standoff of almost half a minute, Gui Ling listened carefully to the surrounding movements, when suddenly Gengar appeared behind him, using Shadow Sneak to strike at Gui Ling.
Gui Ling directly slashed with the tang katana, cutting the Shadow Sneak into two halves.
Gengar saw that things were going badly and tried to escape, but Gui Ling immediately accelerated, cutting his own hand with the blade, which turned red upon contact with the blood, and with this terrifying power, the tang katana directly slashed forward.
A flash of blade passed, and Gengar’s chest was cut, and before Gengar could react to the pain, Gui Ling twisted the blade, using the back of the blade to strike with force, sending Gengar flying into a tree.
Then he took out the only anesthetic bomb, threw it in front of Gengar, where it exploded, and the smell of the anesthetic instantly disoriented Gengar.
“That should be enough, right? Come here, you!”
Gui Ling directly threw a Poké Ball, which, upon touching Gengar, sucked it inside, then fell to the ground and began to vibrate.
After a while, with a click, Gengar was successfully captured in the Poké Ball, as it no longer had the strength to resist control.
“Let it out quickly…”
Gui Ling released Gengar, who was clutching his chest in pain, his fur stained with red blood.
“I’m sorry, I’ll heal you.”
“Gengar!”
Gengar glared fiercely at Gui Ling, but Gui Ling looked at him calmly.
“If you don’t let me heal you, you’ll bleed dry in a bit, are you sure you can still survive?”
“Gengar…”
Gengar could only let Gui Ling bandage him, and after a while, “Gray Fatty” had a white bandage wrapped around his belly, feeling like a belt.
After treating Gengar, Gui Ling then bandaged his own hand with gauze; by this time, his hand had lost too much blood, and he even felt a little dizzy.
After tidying everything up, Gui Ling lay tiredly on the grass, letting out a long sigh.
“Gengar?”
“Sorry, I had no choice; to survive here, I at least need to catch a Pokémon.”
“Gengar.”
“Because I really like Gengar, and you must be very powerful.”
“Gengar~”
Gengar smiled happily upon hearing this; he was a Pokémon who pursued strength, and being praised by Gui Ling made him so happy that he put his hands on his hips and struck a cool pose.
“So, for our future journey, I hope to travel with you.”
Gengar sat on the ground, clutching his stomach, his thoughts drifting back to the past.
When he was a Gastly, he was ostracized by his own kind due to his different color, and being naturally arrogant, he also looked down on them, so he left his kind on his own.
He was born with the ability to control powers slightly stronger than his peers, and in every battle, he was like a brute, relying on sheer strength to win.
However, this made him invincible, so he had always resided in this Dark Forest.
Being caught by Gui Ling was entirely due to his carelessness, as he was too arrogant after all.
“Gengar…”
However, this also made him recognize Gui Ling, even though using an anesthetic dart was a bit like cheating.
“…Gengar!”
“You agree?”
(Nods)
“Haha, great! Come on, let’s go eat something!”
Gengar and Gui Ling returned to the river, and Gengar seemed a bit reluctant upon arriving there, but after Gui Ling’s repeated assurances, he still followed.
Gui Ling followed his usual routine, lit a fire, and started fishing with a fishing rod, but this time there were two rods, and Gengar also held one, starting to learn.
Through their efforts, they caught twice as many fish this time as before, a total of 40.
(Half an hour later)
“Dinner’s ready!”
“Gengar!”
Gengar took 15, Gui Ling only took 10, and then Gui Ling pulled out a Poké Ball to summon the cocoon, and gave the remaining 15 roasted fish to the cocoon.
“Gengar?”
Gengar looked at the cocoon with some vigilance; he felt a terrifying aura that surpassed his own, so he kept staring at it.
“What’s wrong, Gengar?”
“Gengar…”
“Oh, that? It’s nothing, don’t worry about it, it just waits for me to feed it every day and doesn’t help me with anything.”
“Gengar?”
“The first time I came here, I coincidentally caught it, but it’s always been like this; it only shows its head when it eats, and then it stays like this.”
“Gengar…”
“It’s already dark, let’s just sleep here.
Don’t worry, nothing will happen; I’ve slept here for ten days already.”
“Gengar, Gengar!”
“Tomorrow, I want to catch another one.
When we find a suitable one, I’ll rely on you.”
“Gengar!”
“I believe you are the strongest!”
“Gengar!”
Gengar immediately perked up upon hearing this, while Gui Ling smiled, looking at the somewhat belligerent Gengar.
“Does Gengar like being praised so much? I should praise him more often in the future.”
Gui Ling lay on the grass, gazing up at the starry sky, looking at the stars above.
Gengar slowly moved closer, snuggling up beside Gui Ling, his fluffy body feeling extremely soft, and Gui Ling unconsciously hugged Gengar, and then both of them peacefully fell asleep.
However, after a long time, the motionless cocoon suddenly opened its eyes, and a Krookodile suddenly emerged by the river, approaching Gui Ling and Gengar.
The cocoon suddenly opened, revealing a Y-shaped hawk.
Purple light enveloped the body of this red hawk, and the terrifying oppressive force directly scared the Krookodile, rendering it immobile.
Then Yveltal released a red beam of light, firing it towards the Krookodile.
When the light dissipated, the Krookodile had turned directly into a stone statue, and Yveltal used its claws to throw it into the river, then transformed back into its cocoon form and fell asleep.
(I still have to wait for this kid to cook for me! If you eat, what will I eat?)
The next day, as this forest was perpetually dark due to the lack of sunlight, it remained pitch black, but there were no trees by the river, so the morning sun shone on Gui Ling’s face.
“Is it morning…”
“Gengar!”
“Alright, alright! Cook, don’t press on my chest…”
“Gengar!”
After eating and drinking his fill, Gui Ling jumped up from the ground, excitedly raising his tang katana.
“Good! Then today! Let’s go catch a third Pokémon!”
“Gengar!”
Gengar also mimicked Gui Ling, raising his right hand, but behind them, it was unusually quiet.
“…”
Both of them looked speechlessly at the cocoon behind them, then Gui Ling sighed and opened the Poké Ball, letting the cocoon return.
“Then… let’s go!”
“Gengar!”
