Chapter 144: two middle-aged men

He brought his Third Uncle and Maternal Uncle to the armory. Third Uncle immediately picked up a Type 95 automatic rifle, disassembling it in a few quick movements, his speed astonishing.

Third Uncle inspected the rifle and said, "I don't want to use a submachine gun, I'll use this."

He then saw special forces uniforms hanging on the wall, so he put one on. He also found two pistols nearby, secured them, and then took a dagger from the wall.

He nodded, and as he turned around, his peripheral vision seemed to catch something. He quickly took two steps forward to a half-open box—pineapple grenades!

Third Uncle was pleasantly surprised, taking three or four of them. He said, "There's this stuff too? I didn't see you take it out before."

Li Yu coughed, looking at his fully armed Third Uncle, especially seeing him take grenades. He felt a slight tremor in his heart: "After all, these are quite rare, and we haven't really needed them before."

"Haha, you kid, I'll help you use them," Third Uncle said heartily.

On the other side, Maternal Uncle was also selecting firearms. Unlike Third Uncle, Maternal Uncle chose a submachine gun, and his entire body was well-protected.

Both of them registered the items they took from the armory. After they were recorded, Li Yu sent them out. In the armory, anything taken by anyone needed to be registered. Besides weapons, strategic key materials were also strictly controlled in the same way.

Third Uncle and Maternal Uncle drove a car slowly out of the base.

Li Yu stood on the base wall. This was the first time he watched Third Uncle and Maternal Uncle leave.

He had always been unable to see through Third Uncle, especially when Third Uncle took so many bullets and grenades. It felt like he wasn't going to scout, but rather to fight a war.

He shook his head. Third Uncle always knew what he was doing. There was a reason he took so much. It was better to be prepared than to find out you didn't have enough bullets when danger arrived, which would be the end of it. Being prepared was good.

In the car, Maternal Uncle was driving, the vehicle moving steadily on the road. Maternal Uncle looked at Li Yu's Third Uncle, feeling that ever since he left the base, his entire demeanor had changed. He was like a sword unsheathed, incredibly sharp; and also like a dangerous wild wolf, lurking fiercely.

At this moment, Third Uncle was observing everything outside the car. Maternal Uncle watched him, and he could feel it too.

So he took the initiative to speak: "Maternal Uncle, Xiao Yu and the others have been under a lot of pressure lately. As elders, we need to help them bear some responsibility."

Maternal Uncle nodded, "I think so too. Let's be careful when we reach the county town."

Third Uncle hummed, seeming to think of something, and then said, "Let's have a drink another day."

"Okay," Maternal Uncle's lips curved into a slight smile.

Meanwhile, back at the base, Li Yu returned to the confinement room where Mao Ge was held.

Mao Ge hadn't eaten much for several days and was now on the verge of death from hunger.

Hearing footsteps, he frantically shouted, "I was wrong! I'll talk, I'll talk! I'll tell you everything!" His voice was miserable and hoarse, his lips pale and covered in dead skin.

Li Yu didn't speak. After slowly approaching, he squatted down.

He quietly watched Mao Ge.

Although Mao Ge's eyes were covered, he clearly felt a gaze, like a knife, staring intently at him.

It made him shiver and jump. He didn't know who the person was, and the less he knew, the more he felt an unknown fear in his heart.

Suddenly, tears streamed from Mao Ge's eyes, rolling down his cheeks, through the blindfold on his face, and dripping onto the ground.

Li Yu was surprised to see him crying. A grown man, crying.

It seemed he was truly sad, ha ha.

Li Yu helped him remove the blindfold. Mao Ge's eyes opened, hurting from the light, and for a moment, more tears flowed, due to the stimulation from the light.

"Boss, what I wanted to tell you before, I really told you everything! I really didn't hold anything back! I actually didn't want to offend you. That was our first meeting! I really, really, was told to come find you by our boss! If I had known you were like this, I definitely wouldn't have said I was coming to find you!"

Mao Ge spoke a long passage in one breath, his mouth dry.

Seeing this, Li Yu gave him some water.

Mao Ge saw the water, stretched his neck, and drank in large gulps.

A large cup of water was directly poured down. Mao Ge's overall mental state improved greatly. Although he had no food, he could last for a while. However, without water, that would truly be the end of him.

Immediately after, Mao Ge spoke again: "Regarding the number of Salvation Army members, I truly don't know, because we are always out on missions, transporting supplies, and whenever we return, some groups are always missing. I really can't give you an accurate number. I can't just make up a number to deceive you, right?"

"This boss, please be kind. Can I have something to eat? To be honest, I'm actually a good person. What I did before, I was forced to. Our team leader made me do it. I was just trying to survive. Please, I, I, I want to join you."

"After interacting with you, I feel you are good people, and I am also a good person. Can you take me in?" Mao Ge had a strong will to survive. His face was full of yearning, and he looked at Li Yu with sincere eyes.

Li Yu looked at Mao Ge, his expression unchanged from beginning to end. At this moment, he spoke softly, "Who said I'm a good person? You stay put. Think about anything else you haven't confessed. Three days. If you don't have anything new to tell me in three days, prepare to become fertilizer."

After speaking, Li Yu put the blindfold back on him, and then rechecked the ropes binding Mao Ge's hands and feet. After tightening them, he left the confinement room, which was made of iron bars.

He then locked the lock.

Many people were actually somewhat confused as to why they specifically locked this iron bar door, and then tied Mao Ge's hands and feet tightly, and covered his eyes with a blindfold.

Outside the bars, there was also a large iron door.

Under such layers of tight confinement, escaping would be as difficult as ascending to heaven.

For Li Yu, what he liked to do was to suppress any danger at its nascent stage. He had seen too many movies where enemies escaped due to inadequate binding or guarding. Li Yu would not let such a thing happen.

After Li Yu walked out of the large iron door, he stretched, and for a moment, he didn't know what to do.

The Salvation Army was a problem, but problems needed to be solved slowly. Moreover, Maternal Uncle and Third Uncle had already gone to monitor, they just needed to wait for news, and then it would be time to set out to eliminate them!

Li Yu saw that the sun was just right and suddenly felt like it, so he went to the garden to stroll around, just to clear his mind.
