Chapter 30: Northern Eagle Guard (I)

“Boom!”

“Boom! Boom!”

Several massive boulders fell one after another, hitting the ground with a resounding crash.

Ke Xiu Si continuously changed direction in the air, dodging with unimaginable speed. Had one not seen it with their own eyes, few would believe this was a Red Dragon, known for its strength and clumsiness.

“Crack!”

A sudden cracking sound echoed from the rock ceiling.

Ke Xiu Si, flying at high speed, slightly raised his head and realized that the rocks at the top of the exit were collapsing.

The Red Dragon’s expression was solemn; its wings tightened sharply, and its four limbs were tucked close to its body.

“Swish—”

His body shot straight down like an arrow released from a bowstring.

At the very last moment of the rock pile’s collapse, Ke Xiu Si burst out of the cave entrance, his tail tip brushing past the falling rocks.

“Boom—”

A thunderous roar followed immediately, and dust flew everywhere.

Then, there was silence.

This tomb was completely buried under the rocks, never to be disturbed again. Although, in terms of process, it utterly destroyed someone's tomb, in a sense, it fulfilled the long-sealed wish of the Storm Giant Elder.

“Rest in peace.”

Ke Xiu Si took one last look at the entrance submerged by rock and soil, speaking softly.

He patted the ancient characters on the stone pillar at the entrance, then turned and left.

The Red Dragon spread his claws, and the eerie blue eye of the storm king still lay quietly within them.

“The power of this thing is too immense; I can’t swallow it directly. I need to find a container.”

He still felt lingering fear from the terrifying storm earlier.

Stormwind Highlands, Ember Nest.

On the walls of Boulder Fortress, there were many Goblin and Kobold corpses, and even a few Ogre ones, mostly killed by arrows from the sky.

In the sky, not only were there roaring Wyverns, but also over forty giant Eagles.

These giant Eagles had bright plumage, with scales covering vital areas, and their wingspans were over six meters long.

Upon closer inspection, one would notice that each giant Eagle carried a knight on its back, clad in heavy plate armor, with only their eyes visible.

Their chests all bore the emblem of an Eagle and a sword.

These were the Eagle Guards of the Lakeman Family!

The Lakeman Family was called the “North Wind Eagle” because their ancestor, Tergai.Lakman, stole giant Eagle eggs from the highest point of Stormwind Highlands, raised a large number of giant Eagles in their territory, and trained elite giant Eagle Knights as their personal guard.

These giant Eagle Knights could both resist invasions from monsters like Frost Giants and Wyverns, and serve as deadly weapons in wars between lords.

These knights, known as “Eagle Guards,” had been passed down for centuries.

The aerial battle continued.

Over forty Eagle Guards, either nocking arrows or wielding long spears, continuously circled the eight Wyverns on their giant Eagles.

They connected head to tail, forming a huge encirclement.

They had extensive experience fighting Wyverns, knowing well not to confront these massive monsters head-on, and understanding their disadvantage of large size and difficulty in turning in the air, as well as their own superior maneuverability.

Therefore, they adopted the so-called “circle formation.”

The Eagle Guards covered each other’s front and rear, making the Wyverns dizzy.

Any Wyvern that lunged would be met with a volley of arrows, and if a Wyvern missed its target, it would be met with a spear charge from behind.

The Goblin forces on the ground were helpless against these fast-moving aerial targets, able to only shoot weak, flimsy arrows.

But these arrows, after air resistance and hitting the Eagle Guards’ plate armor, bounced off like mere tickles.

The Ogres roared and bellowed, haphazardly throwing giant rocks into the sky.

One Ogre didn't even aim, just threw a rock skyward by feel.

“Bang!”

The stone arced gracefully through the air and actually struck a unlucky Eagle Guard, sending him plummeting.

“Oh, oh, oh! You hit him!”

“Good job, Big Head!”

“Knock all those little flies, those meat cans, down!”

The Ogres cheered excitedly, swarming forward to tear the giant Eagle and the knight to shreds.

Langpu, standing at the highest point of the city wall, was not to be outdone. He swung his club, pointing to the sky.

“Fireball!”

A scorching Fireball shot straight towards the giant Eagle in the sky.

But the giant Eagle, under the knight's superb control, managed to make a sharp turn and dodge it. The Fireball grazed the Eagle's chest, leaving only a trail of charred marks.

Although it didn't hit, its deterrent effect was strong, and the Eagle Guards instantly became alert.

“It’s a spellcaster!”

“Don’t go near that section of the wall anymore! Damn it, how can there be such a thing as an Ogre Mage?”

“Watch out, there’s a spellcaster there!”

Langpu’s face was gloomy. The mobility of the giant Eagle Knights was too strong; often, before he could even finish constructing the model for his Fireball, these guys would fly into the sky and escape.

And even if one or two were brought down by rocks, that was just pure luck.

Langpu adjusted his small spectacles on his face and muttered, “I can’t rely on the Goblins, and these brainless Wyverns are useless too. I still have to depend on that beast, or… wait for the master to return and deal with it.”

“No, it’s just a few dozen humans.”

“The master will be disappointed in me.”

Thinking of this, the Ogre Mage roared in dragon language towards the cave in the rock wall: “Chimera, if you don’t act now, are you waiting for the master to return and tear you to shreds?”

“Roar—”

An angry roar came from the cave.

A massive monster with the three heads of a goat, a lion, and a dragon burst out of the dark cave, flapping its dragon-like wings and soaring into the air.

“It’s the Chimera!”

An Eagle Guard exclaimed in the air.

“Break formation!”

A steady voice came from the sky.

The voice belonged to Arjay.Yoman, the knight captain of this Eagle Guard unit, and a seasoned warrior.

Beneath his heavy, standard-issue plate armor were a pair of incredibly calm eyes.

Unlike others, his weapon was not a lance or a bow, but a heavy greatsword, intricately engraved with a Hollow pattern of an Eagle spreading its wings.

The Chimera directly flapped its wings and flew to its highest point.

“Awooo—”

It let out a long howl.

Then, it glided down in its most familiar manner, spewing scorching flame breath from its mouth.

The Eagle Guards immediately abandoned their original formation and scattered, dodging the flame attack.

However, facing the high-speed diving Chimera, three Eagle Guards were unable to dodge in time and were engulfed by the tongues of fire, burning fiercely in the air before falling to the ground with wails.

Seeing his companions fall, Algiers roared:

“Leave this Chimera to me! You all continue to surround those Wyverns!”

He leaned slightly, gently stroking the giant Eagle’s feathers, and softly said, “Igor, it’s time to go!”

The giant Eagle and the knight lived and fought together, naturally understanding each other’s intentions without needing many words.

“Caw—”

A sharp Eagle cry echoed in the air.
