Chapter 31: Northern Eagle Guard (II)

The Chimera’s dive was complete, and its results were impressive.

With just one strike, it had knocked down three Eagle Guards, eliciting a fervent cheer from the many monsters of the Burning Nest. Even the Wyverns, usually arrogant and only subservient to the Red Dragon, raised their heads and shrieked.

“Roar—”

The three-headed monster was triumphant, all three heads letting out a thoroughly satisfying roar.

It vigorously flapped its wings, ascending again with the air current, attempting its next charge.

“Monster, your opponent is me!”

A dark shadow swept past the Chimera from behind.

Algiers’s superb horsemanship combined with the giant eagle’s flight skills allowed the giant eagle to fly on the air currents generated by the Chimera, placing them precisely in the Chimera’s blind spot.

He leaned forward and swung the sharp greatsword in his hand, cutting through the Chimera’s tough fur.

Blood splattered in mid-air.

“Ow!”

The Chimera let out an angry howl as it felt the injury on its back.

Immediately after, the Chimera made a sharp turn in the air, powerfully striking its original rear position with its thick dragon tail.

“Igor!”

Algiers called out to his companion, clamping his legs tightly.

The giant eagle immediately understood, rolling and banking in the air, deftly dodging the strike.

The dragon tail swung through empty air, and the Chimera, furious, accelerated its flight while twisting its dragon head to spit scorching flame breath at the Eagle Guard behind it.

“Boom—”

Flames burned in the air.

But the Chimera’s neck clearly couldn’t turn in all directions.

Algiers, single-handedly controlling the giant eagle, merely tilted slightly, dodging the flame breath, and using his maneuverability, he once again flew diagonally to the attack blind spot directly above the Chimera.

“Master the sky, and you master everything,” the old instructor often told them.

Seeing this Eagle Guard stubbornly following him, the Chimera dove down again.

“Swish—”

It stopped abruptly by spreading its dragon wings, using its familiarity with the terrain, intending to make the Eagle Guard crash headfirst into the rock wall.

However, Algiers wasn’t falling for that.

He simply followed behind the Chimera unhurriedly, calmly turning around.

But during this turn, his eagle-like keen eyes noticed some unusual details.

The Chimera’s left wing was half a beat slower when it spread.

But it was this instant that Algiers keenly noticed.

“Its left wing has an old injury!”

Algiers said excitedly.

He gently stroked the feathers beneath him, and the giant eagle let out a sharp cry in the air, diving down.

“Swish—”

The blade this time cut across the Chimera’s hind leg.

Algiers was very patient when dealing with large monsters.

He never expected to kill in one blow but wanted to leverage his mobility advantage to slowly bleed the opponent.

When facing such monsters, patient hunters often reap trophies, while impatient hotheads often lose their lives to the monster’s unintentional trampling.

Of course, Barbarians were an exception.

Knowing that the Chimera’s wings had old injuries and couldn’t change direction easily, the Eagle Guard Captain’s attacks became even more reckless.

This time, the giant eagle even hovered beneath its belly.

“Action as the Tide!”

Algiers’s muscles bulged, and his movements suddenly accelerated.

In just a few short seconds, he swung his sword multiple times consecutively, each stroke cutting through the tough, thick lion hide, deep into the flesh, even reaching the Chimera’s soft internal organs.

“Ow—”

The Chimera let out a painful wail, then endured the intense pain to strike downwards with its sharp claws.

But at this moment, the giant eagle rider had already moved to its side, discovering the next weakness.

“Follow-through Slash!”

Algiers had just finished one sword strike when he followed through with a side slash, precisely cutting the Chimera’s downward-striking sharp claw.

The Chimera wailed again, and all three of its heads rose together.

Eagle feathers flew, and blood splattered.

Under Algiers’s exquisite skill, the giant eagle swept past the Chimera’s back, sides, and belly again and again in the air, his greatsword making the monster’s blood splatter repeatedly, yet the Chimera could not even touch a single feather.

This was the difference between a beast and a warrior.

The Wyverns flapped their wings forward, wanting to assist.

But they could barely protect themselves.

Soon, each Wyvern was surrounded and harassed by small formations of seven or eight Eagle Guards, only able to rage impotently, constantly roaring and stabbing wildly with their tails.

“Igor, to the upper left.”

Algiers’s tone carried a hint of excitement; every time he slayed such a large monster, it made his blood surge.

“I’m going to cut off this guy’s wings!”

“Screech!”

Accompanied by a sharp eagle cry, Algiers and the giant eagle turned into a dark shadow, diving down towards the somewhat disoriented Chimera.

Just as his greatsword was about to cut off the dragon wing—

“Fireball!”

A scorching Fireball rushed from the ground towards the giant eagle.

The Ogre Mage Langpu had been observing from the ground for a long time, just waiting for an opportunity for them to relax.

“Igor!”

Algiers shouted, twisting his body to adjust direction.

The giant eagle, while diving, managed to forcefully turn sideways, narrowly dodging the Fireball’s impact once again.

Only the feathers on its right wing were grazed by the flames, leaving a charred mark.

However, at this point, he had already adjusted once in the air, and his posture was a bit awkward.

And the Chimera had also come to its senses, realizing this was a rare opportunity, but the constantly accumulating wounds were making it lose its mind, only wanting to vent its long-held fury.

It roared, fiercely swinging its lion claw.

“Bang!”

Immediately, eagle feathers flew, and blood splattered.

The giant eagle and the rider on it were sent flying over ten meters.

But even after suffering such an attack, spinning and tumbling in the air, Algiers still clamped his legs tightly, not falling from the giant eagle.

“Igor, right turn!”

However, not only did he not fall, but he even helped the injured giant eagle maintain its balance by adjusting his own center of gravity, spreading its wings to maintain basic flight.

Seeing Algiers still in the air, the Chimera’s rage grew even stronger, and it charged head-on again.

“Eagle Guards, assemble!”

“This Chimera is almost done for!”

Algiers raised his greatsword.

The Eagle Guards who were currently entangled with the Wyverns immediately dispersed, gradually surrounding the Chimera from all directions, preparing to harass it again in formation.

Arrows flew from various directions, and occasionally they had to contend with cavalry spear charges from behind.

The Chimera was already covered in wounds, overwhelmed.

Although the Chimera was not highly intelligent, it knew that the situation would be dire if it continued like this; it truly could not tolerate the constant harassment from these annoying “flies.”

So, the Chimera’s three heads all let out hoarse roars, it feigned several attacks, and taking advantage of the Eagle Guards scattering to dodge, it made a deceptive move and turned to flee.

It wanted to escape into the mountain cave and defend itself there.

Algiers instantly saw through the Chimera’s intention.

“He’s trying to escape!”

“Eagle Guards, prepare for a group charge!”
