Chapter 3: Endless tide of corpses

Taking a deep breath, Li Su prepared for his Crossing .

Now that his divine skill was perfected, it was time to test his sword against the world.

And earn some living expenses while he was at it.

Even with his frugal spending over the past year, his savings were almost depleted.

With his current reputation, he probably couldn't even borrow money if he wanted to.

He rechecked the items he was taking: three sets of clothes for each season (spring, summer, autumn, winter), and two months' worth of food and drinking water.

His only weapons were three short swords.

Everything else was various stones pre-charged with kinetic energy.

Li Su's mind stirred, and he summoned the Dreamlike Ark, silently chanting in his heart…

Bang! Bang! Bang…

A series of knocks on the door directly interrupted Li Su's next action.

He quickly put away the Dreamlike Ark and immediately released his Perception Domain.

A man in his fifties with white hair was knocking on the door, a joyful expression on his face.

"Good thing I locked the door," Li Su hesitated for a moment, then went to open it.

"Third Uncle, what's up?"

The white-haired man grabbed Li Su's arm and said, "The sock factory in town is hiring, and I've already signed you up."

"It's not good for you to just play around at home all day. You're not a child anymore; you should start thinking about your future."

Li Su could only grit his teeth and listen to the other party's nagging. What he said wasn't wrong, and he was an elder, so being rude or showing a bad attitude wasn't appropriate.

But the consequence of not resisting was being dragged away directly, without even closing the door.

Li Su didn't return home until night.

Once he had money, he definitely had to move out of here; living here was simply too inconvenient.

Li Su felt a dizzy spell, then opened his eyes to see a vast expanse of yellow sand.

After observing his surroundings, he found no sign of anyone. Li Su took out two large bird-shaped wooden carvings.

After disguising himself as a large bird, Li Su slowly ascended. He immediately saw an asphalt road in the yellow sand.

At the end of the road was the phantom of a City, and not far away was a small building.

Li Su slowly descended, deciding to check out the small building first.

A bicycle automatically traveled through the yellow sand, heading towards the asphalt road.

After riding at a leisurely pace across the yellow sand for a while, Li Su stopped his bike over 1000 meters in front of the small building.

As soon as his Perception Domain opened, he saw the surveillance camera in front of the door, its red light blinking, clearly indicating it was operating.

The Perception Domain continued to spread forward, revealing the situation inside to him.

The room was messy and dirty, and there was an old, ugly woman with two men, playing adult games.

Li Su took a deep breath, exclaiming that it was an eyesore.

After seeing this scene, Li Su lost interest in further investigation. He decided to go to the City instead!

Riding his bicycle, Li Su looked at the endless sea of sand, scanning around but seeing no trace of anyone.

It was his first time seeing such a boundless sea of sand with his own eyes.

After a moment of hesitation, Li Su ultimately couldn't resist the temptation to play in the sand.

He got off his bike and walked to the edge of the yellow sand. With a wave of his hand, a 'Desert Saber' appeared, and a long, thin crack appeared in the desert ahead.

That was because the sand in front had been collected into his space.

With a wave of his left hand, a blurry figure made of yellow sand appeared in front of him.

In Li Su's right hand, a rapidly spinning ball made of yellow sand appeared.

He gently pressed it towards the figure, and accompanied by a scratching, grinding sound, both simultaneously dissipated in the air.

Controlling the yellow sand with Mind Power to form a tornado, the tornado expanded as his Mind Power increased. Li Su used ninety percent of his strength.

The tornado grew to a hundred meters tall.

Li Su suddenly thought of a move: using a sand tornado to trap creatures within it.

Constantly rotating and grinding, as long as the rotation speed was fast enough, nothing could resist being ground down, except for things harder than sand.

Li Su's mind stirred, and he collected a large amount of yellow sand, then got on his bicycle and continued towards the City.

A dozen minutes later, Li Su saw several figures moving slowly.

He looked around and found no trace of any vehicles.

This immediately put Li Su on alert.

What normal person would walk on this desolate road in over 30-degree Celsius heat, when even he, a transmigrator from another world, had a bicycle for transport?

Li Su cautiously rode forward. When he clearly saw those figures…

He gasped. These things shouldn't even be considered human, right?

The things in front were rotten and stiff all over, and upon seeing a living person, they bared their fangs and claws, lunging forward.

Li Su pressed his left hand, using Mind Power to form an invisible barrier, blocking the three zombies 10 meters away.

After careful observation, he confirmed these were indeed biochemical zombies. Yellow sand and zombies, it felt a bit like a Resident Evil scene.

He remembered the house he passed earlier; there might have been some explosive things inside, but unfortunately, he hadn't checked carefully.

If he waited here, he might even encounter the female protagonist, Alice.

After a moment of thought, Li Su realized that Alice didn't have anything he wanted.

He wouldn't even dare to shake her hand with all that bio-virus; that stuff felt even more terrifying than AIDS.

The biotechnology in this world was exceptionally advanced. He could collect all the books in this world and build the largest private library.

Due to his Mind Power, Li Su's memory had increased several times, giving him a near-photographic memory.

He took another look at the ugly appearance of these zombies.

Li Su made up his mind: unless there was something he particularly wanted, he would not interfere with the plot's development.

In this world full of viruses, he would be a quiet traveler.

Looking at the three fresh zombies in front of him, Li Su released stone bullets in front of their foreheads, wanting to test their power.

This was his first time killing such large creatures, so he was inevitably a little nervous.

A moment later, nothing happened. How could this be?

Li Su quickly took out an apple; the space's functions were working normally.

But why couldn't he release stone bullets in front of the zombies' foreheads?

Could this space be a bleeding heart, unwilling to even kill zombies?

After a brief thought, Li Su tried taking out a stone two meters away from a zombie.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

As soon as the three stones appeared, they immediately vanished, each piercing a zombie's skull.

The stones' power undiminished, they flew rapidly into the distance, and the three zombies fell down with a thud.

So that was it. When Li Su first acquired the storage space, he could only collect items within 1 meter of him.

Around other living beings, there might be their own thoughts, or they might be enveloped by a biological magnetic field, so he couldn't take things out near others.

After coming up with a plausible reason, Li Su no longer dwelled on it. He got on his bicycle and continued towards the City.

Half an hour later.

He saw a City full of death and desolation, and also saw zombies wandering around.

Li Su took out a single-person sofa and sat on it. The sofa lifted him into the air, with five steel plates floating around him.

In front was a two-meter diameter bulletproof glass, which he had bought online. He didn't know if it was actually bulletproof.

Li Su was fully protected inside, with three ordinary steel swords circling outside.

A simplified steel fortress, floating about 5 meters off the ground, moved forward.

The surrounding zombies, seeing a living person, all surged forward, opening their gaping mouths, wanting to tear apart all living things.

Li Su closed his eyes inside the small fortress, observing his surroundings with his Perception Domain.

He aimed at the zombies below.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh…

Stone after stone appeared, sweeping down at the zombies below like a Gatling gun.

Although there was no sound of gunfire, there was the sound of stones cutting through the air, crushing bones, and tearing flesh.

The ferocious zombies, like bubbles, were shot through by the dense small stones.

Some bowl-sized stones whizzed out, and the zombies' bodies shattered into large pieces.

There were about a few hundred zombies that had gathered. In less than five minutes, they all turned into a pile of mangled limbs and fragments, the black and red blood staining the ground pitch black.

The pockmarked concrete ground was filled with black blood and flesh paste.

Li Su's face behind the bulletproof glass was a little pale.

But after only a moment, Li Su adjusted his mindset; his previous psychological preparation had not been in vain after all.

This abandoned City, for the financially strapped Li Su, was undoubtedly a treasure trove.

But before treasure hunting, he still needed to check if there were any living people here.

Living people were the most dangerous, after all, zombies wouldn't use guns.

By late afternoon, as dusk was falling, Li Su had roughly scouted this small City.

He had a general look around and found no traces of living people, though there were plenty of zombies.

Li Su put away the steel plates and flew into a ten-story building, finding a relatively clean room.

It was a guest room, fully equipped with daily necessities, and the glass was intact.

He closed the door, took out two large square stones over two meters high, and completely blocked the door.

When sleeping, he would use the same stones to block the toilet door and windows, making it difficult even for a Tyrant to enter.

Li Su collected all the items in the room into his storage space, then checked the room for any small animals.

After confirming it was safe.

He brought out the bed and tables and chairs again.

The Perception Domain could only see things but not penetrate disguises, so of course, he had to check carefully given the conditions.

Li Su, busy all day, took out his dinner: a glass of plain water and a plate of shredded potato and spicy cabbage over rice.

After buying some self-defense weapons, he didn't have much left of his savings, so he could only eat the most ordinary food.
